ABOUT: HERSHEY Sweet, happy Hershey girl is waiting to join your family! Hershey originally came to us in 2023 from one of our shelter partners when they no longer had space for her. She was quickly adopted into a loving home, but then in 2026, her owners sadly had to return her due to housing issues. Despite this, Hershey has maintained her loving and bubbly attitude! At 5-years-and-4-months-old, she has mastered 'sit' and is always eager to show off her smarts. She enjoys spending time with people, other dogs, and even lived with a cat! She has become a volunteer favorite from participating in our Doggy Day Out Program, here's what they had to say about her: Hershey is so calm and gentle. We went to petsmart to smell the smells pick out some treats and toys, to our surprise she was very very active and excited to explore petsmart. Her favorite part was by far watching the Guinea pigs through the glass. She would sit there ears perked, watching curiously. No barking, no aggression, just pure curiosity and amusement! She was picky with treats but we found if you give her smaller pieces of the treat first rather than the whole thing at once she would warm up to the treats. She said hi to everyone and anyone willing, you can tell she loves to attention in short spurts. We then went to Starbucks where she enjoyed her pup cup in a very dainty manner. She is the most delicate pupper ever with nothing but love to give and a curiosity that is very amusing. -Hannah She walks really well on the leash. She got distracted by squirrels but was easily redirected. She was friendly to everyone that stopped to say hello but she never pulled to try to get to people. After the park we went to hang out at home. She seemed really excited to come in the house and immediately started zooming! She loves playing tug so we did that for quite awhile. She wasn't interested in dog treats and pretty much scoffed at the carrot I offered her. She did LOVE the cheese I gave her. She knows how to sit and I was trying to figure out if she knew anything else but I think the cheese got her too amped up lol. We spent some time cuddling on the couch and she is such a love bug. She wants to be pressed up against you or have her tummy in the air getting belly rubs. She's such a great dog. She has lots of energy to run and play but can also switch over to little spoon in an instant! -Robin

Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, meet-and-greets are scheduled only after a completed application is received. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Wilmington, DE so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Dutchess (aka Dutch)! Dutchess is a sweet, gentle 13-year-old yellow lab. This girl is a total couch potato who just wants a cool, cozy spot to nap and some gentle pets and brushing to go with it. When Dutchess came into rescue, she hadn't been vetted in years and was quietly struggling with arthritis pain — her owners surrendered her, and she's been making up for lost time ever since. Since coming into care, she's had a dental, an ear hematoma repair, and treatment for a UTI, ear infections, and hot spots. She's on a few daily medications to keep her comfortable (Cosequin, gabapentin, Carprovet, and amantadine), all manageable and worth every penny for the peace this old girl deserves. At 78 lbs, Dutchess is fully housebroken, calm, quiet (she doesn't bark), and great on a leash. She's good with other dogs and respectful older kids, but due to her arthritis she does best with gentle, considerate humans — cats are still a question mark. She sleeps in a dog bed, isn't crate trained, and because of her arthritis, she cannot do stairs and is too heavy to be picked up or carried — so her new home should be stair-free with easy, ground-level access to a yard for potty breaks. A fenced yard isn't required, but easy outdoor access is a must. Dutchess isn't looking for excitement — just a soft bed, a cool napping spot, and someone to love on her senior years. Each dog is on year-round Heartworm medication while in the rescue's care. They are up-to-date with Rabies, Bordetella, Distemper, Parvo, and Leptospirosis vaccines. They have been wormed. Adoption Fee: The adoption fee includes 30 days of FREE pet insurance, with an option to purchase additional coverage. The rescue strives to provide the best medical care to ensure the health of the dogs, including spaying or neutering.
