Story
This is Bernie... our sweet Doodle boy! Bernie came to GRRAND from a shelter in late November. He was in terrible condition upon intake and required shaving due to such deep mats. He was also quite unsocialized and has needed a lot of behavioral support to become ready for adoption. We’re so excited for Bernie to be able to continue on the next leg of his journey to finding his forever home! This affectionate boy now loves to jump up and give hugs to his caretakers He will need a family with the time and patience to continue helping him come out of his shell to see all the great things in the world and to give him the attention and exercise he desires. He needs a secure home with an above-ground fenced yard because he could be a flight risk. Bernie resource guards and since he cannot be retrained to change this behavior, he needs a home without any kids, grandkids or children visiting the home. With his resource guarding behaviors, Bernie does not like it when other dogs or people get around his food (or favorite things) so he will need to be fed separately from other dogs however, he does love to play with other dogs and does great with them! We do not believe he should go to a home with cats. Interested families will have the support of our trainer to help understand Bernie and get him settled into his new home If you are interested in fostering Bernie, please complete a foster application: http://grrand.org/foster-process/ If you think Bernie may be the dog for you, please complete an adoption application: http://grrand.org/adoption-process/ ##947042##

Story
Marley is a 2-3 yr old, 60ishlb Lab mix looking for his forever home! Marley has been in a foster home for a bit now, and a few priority things: "Over the past months we have watched Marley slowly come out of his shell and watched him learn how to acclimate in a home. He is still overcoming some his fears/survival instincts developed from being a stray but he has grown into a very good goofy boy and is a real gem to have in your home. He must go to a home with another stable and confident dog, so they can help to show Marley the ropes, and help build his own confidence. He doesn't like to be alone in new places and definitely models his behavior/habits from the other dogs. Marley is a true pacifist and would not do well with any animal/kiddo who has a tendency to bully or be overly aggressive, he struggles to stand up for himself. He has never tired to assert his dominance and is perfectly fine being the "side kick" to the other dogs he is with. He is also best suited for a home with older children and a more calm atmosphere, vs a home with small kids and lots of chaos around him.  He loves other dogs and is playful around them, but we are still working on building trust in humans. He must go to a house with another confident/stable dog to help him learn the ways of the world since he loves to follow what his foster brother/dog is doing. He is a very submissive boy and has shown zero aggression, but lacks socialization and and stability and will learn that from a social and stable doggie sibling. As he is very unsure of all things around him, he is considered a flight risk and must go to a home with an above ground secure fenced yard.  He is potty trained and crate trained. He does fantastic on leash and does not pull. His favorite play is fetch as he LOVES tennis balls! He is very food motivated, so it will be easy to train him once he opens up to you and gains your trust. Marley's new family will need to have the time and patience to work with him, give him lots of reassurance and help build confidence in himself, and trust in humans. Other than that, he is the definition of a couch potato with a low to moderate energy level. Marley is a gentle old soul, he loves a good afternoon nap and couch surfing on a fuzzy blanket. He is a very low maintenance doggo. I don't think I have ever seen Marley act out/ misbehave / chew on anything other than his toys/bones. You can tell he just wants to fit in be unnoticed and be a good well behaved boy. He prefers to stay out of the spotlight and doesn't need constant attention preferring to sit close to you rather than next/ on you". We have no information at this time about kids or cats. Winning over the trust of a dog is one of the best feelings in the world. If you want to meet Marley and start building your bond, please fill out an adoption application: grrand.org/adopt GRRAND dogs are looking for homes in our current service area of Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, and Greater Cincinnati and Dayton. LOOK AT THIS CUTIE!!! Rio is a 1 year old, 80ish lb Labradoodle who is being surrendered to GRRAND as his person felt he needed a home with more time to exercise and play with Rio than they could give to him. Rio was living in an apartment and it was NOT OK for him, so he needs a home that has a fenced in yard where he can romp and play, or a family that can give him the regular walks and exercise he needs to be a happy and content good boy. He was in a temporary foster home and they learned he can NOT be crated. Rio will need to have a home where he can have full run of the house. We are told Rio is high energy, loves to play catch, loves squeaky toys, and is super friendly!!! Rio needs some training as he likes to jump when he is happy, but he is a good boy. Please check back for more info but If you would like to meet Rio, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   ##1911995##

Story
Peanut is a senior 9ish year old, Lab/Golden mix at about 75ish lbs who was literally "left with the house" when his so-called people, sold their house... they just abandoned him. He went to a shelter for 2 months and they said that he was exceptionally friendly, loves other dogs and passed the cat test with flying colors. (GRRAND has not cat tested him) We are so happy that Peanut went to a foster home and this is what they say: Hi, I’m Peanut! Though I’m more like a Brazil nut! (haha doggie humor!) 'cause I’m a big boy but a good one! I love to eat…but treats…I don’t like them, I LOVE them! When I was at the shelter, I was that dog sitting in the corner of my kennel waiting to be noticed. All the other dogs were barking “PICK ME! PICK ME! and they were picked - over me. (sigh) Just because my muzzle may be a bit gray, or my eyes not as bright or my gait not as gingerly, I got passed over again and again. And then, I got SO LUCKY and someone took me into their home from the GRRAND rescue. Now in my foster home, I go readily into my big kennel. Then when it’s time to go outside, I like to run around the yard and then lay down on my doggie bed under the deck. When inside I will nudge you to be petted, take treats easy from your hand, sit on command, and go lay down when it’s time to. I am learning “Wait” and “Stay.” And I know that “No” means “No”!I walk easy on a leash and love to ride in the car and put my muzzle out the back window. When I am at home and not sleeping, my eyes and ears are attentive to what my foster mom is doing, hoping she will include me. I look forward to having a loving furever family and I will be their buddy and they will be my whole world!Find me on GRRAND’s website - again hoping that someone will PICK ME! PICK ME"! If you would like to meet Peanut, and give this deserving boy a loving home forever, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##1953019##

Story
Lemon was saved from euthanazia from a Cincinnatie shelter in mid-January. She was to be euthanised due to her skin condition. Just six weeks later, with good food and vet care she is already showing a lot of improvement. She is such a sweet girl. She loves to rest against you and and get petted. She craves attention, probably because she'd been neglected for so long. We are still learning about Lemon, but so far all we've seen is a big love bug!! We think she's ready to go to the right, loving, caring home. ##1986358##

Doc is a beautiful 4 year old, 100+ish lb Labrador who has just arrived at GRRAND. One thing for sure, this dude needs to lose a pound or...20!  The kennel staff says "He is doing well at the kennel. He loves attention and to be petted. We are told he cannot go with children, so he is looking for an adult only dog savvy home, and we believe he needs to be the only pet in the home. Story
Hi! I'm Rubeus Hagrid and I'm up for adoption! The best way to describe me is, VELCRO! I like to be around my foster moms so much that they have to peal me off like a piece of velcro. I like helping my foster moms do dishes and cook. I also MUST go with them to potty since they go with me too, it's only right! I love to snuggle just as much as I love to play. I tend to take all my toys outside with me but I love to fetch so it works out. I'm still working on going potty outside but I'm only 16 weeks old. I have foster dog and cat siblings and I do great with them. I'm a male lab mix and I will be neutered and UTD on shots. My adoption fee is $200.00. Head to our website and fill out an application!

Story
Vance is a Golden/Pyrenees mix and he is just a beautiful boy who desperately needs a dog-savvy and experienced foster home!! He will curl up on your lap and jump on your bed if you let him. He loves 'his people', which right now is the kennel staff and volunteers.    You won't have to worry about squirrels or chipmunks in your yard  as he'll chase them off for sure!  He definitely needs a dog experienced, adult household, with no kids under 18, and an above ground fenced yard (no apartments or condo type home). Vance is not a real social dog as he likes to be at home with his people! Can anyone take this sweet boy out of the kennel? Any family who is interested in Vance, and has been approved to meet him, MUST still be approved by his trainer. He likes smaller dogs but he is not wild about larger dogs and no cats. This sweet boy likes walks around the park and walks fine on leash. While he was out and about at the kennel, he wanted lots of loving in the office!!! And... Vance Loves fetching toys!We are still learning about this cutie, but if you would like to meet him and get him out of the kennel, please contact GRRAND ASAP! ##947055##

Story
This beautiful girl is Faith... Faith was one of the breeder dogs that was rescued from horrid conditions from the Amish puppy mill rescue in early Dec. Faith & Ivy are a bonded pair and as of now (mid-March 2024) we anticipate that they may be ready to consider being transitioned to the right adoptive family, possibly by June. **** Faith continues to be extremely unsocialized at this time, and the type of home she is needing is not just your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for her and they are:  MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. She also MUST have another stable dog, MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the house, MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16. We are still learning about Faith but we do know she is very fearful of everything right now. You can tell she WANTS to get love but she is very hesitant and when one of the volunteers was able to pet her (once), she laid down in fear. Faith has only known the small confines of a kennel, so this new world she has been introduced to is very scary for her. She finds comfort in other dogs as when she is in the play area with volunteers, she was very indifferent and not so interested in people, but when she is outside with some other dogs, she will get excited and bounce around some.  We know we need to get her out of the kennel so she can begin her new journey in life. She needs to find a forever family or foster family that is excited to show her what love and compassion are about. Faith is going to take time... things can not be rushed for her. As said above, she is going to need to have a stable dog living in the home so they can show her the ropes and help build her confidence in everything, especially people. Faith is considered a flight risk, and will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the home. We do not know how she will be with kids and or chaos, so a home with no kids under the age of 16 is best and we do not know how she is with cats at this time.  If you want to be the one to show Faith what life as a beloved family member is all about, please fill out an application: grrand.org/foster grrand.org/adopt GRRAND dogs are looking for their foster or adoptive homes in our current service area of Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, or Greater Cincinnati and Dayton.
