Story
Marley is a 2-3 yr old, 60ishlb Lab mix looking for his forever home! Marley has been in a foster home for a bit now, and a few priority things: "Over the past months we have watched Marley slowly come out of his shell and watched him learn how to acclimate in a home. He is still overcoming some his fears/survival instincts developed from being a stray but he has grown into a very good goofy boy and is a real gem to have in your home. He must go to a home with another stable and confident dog, so they can help to show Marley the ropes, and help build his own confidence. He doesn't like to be alone in new places and definitely models his behavior/habits from the other dogs. Marley is a true pacifist and would not do well with any animal/kiddo who has a tendency to bully or be overly aggressive, he struggles to stand up for himself. He has never tired to assert his dominance and is perfectly fine being the "side kick" to the other dogs he is with. He is also best suited for a home with older children and a more calm atmosphere, vs a home with small kids and lots of chaos around him.  He loves other dogs and is playful around them, but we are still working on building trust in humans. He must go to a house with another confident/stable dog to help him learn the ways of the world since he loves to follow what his foster brother/dog is doing. He is a very submissive boy and has shown zero aggression, but lacks socialization and and stability and will learn that from a social and stable doggie sibling. As he is very unsure of all things around him, he is considered a flight risk and must go to a home with an above ground secure fenced yard.  He is potty trained and crate trained. He does fantastic on leash and does not pull. His favorite play is fetch as he LOVES tennis balls! He is very food motivated, so it will be easy to train him once he opens up to you and gains your trust. Marley's new family will need to have the time and patience to work with him, give him lots of reassurance and help build confidence in himself, and trust in humans. Other than that, he is the definition of a couch potato with a low to moderate energy level. Marley is a gentle old soul, he loves a good afternoon nap and couch surfing on a fuzzy blanket. He is a very low maintenance doggo. I don't think I have ever seen Marley act out/ misbehave / chew on anything other than his toys/bones. You can tell he just wants to fit in be unnoticed and be a good well behaved boy. He prefers to stay out of the spotlight and doesn't need constant attention preferring to sit close to you rather than next/ on you". We have no information at this time about kids or cats. Winning over the trust of a dog is one of the best feelings in the world. If you want to meet Marley and start building your bond, please fill out an adoption application: grrand.org/adopt GRRAND dogs are looking for homes in our current service area of Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, and Greater Cincinnati and Dayton. Story
Peanut is a senior 9ish year old, Lab/Golden mix at about 75ish lbs who was literally "left with the house" when his so-called people, sold their house... they just abandoned him. He went to a shelter for 2 months and they said that he was exceptionally friendly, loves other dogs and passed the cat test with flying colors. (GRRAND has not cat tested him) We are so happy that Peanut went to a foster home and this is what they say: Hi, I’m Peanut! Though I’m more like a Brazil nut! (haha doggie humor!) 'cause I’m a big boy but a good one! I love to eat…but treats…I don’t like them, I LOVE them! When I was at the shelter, I was that dog sitting in the corner of my kennel waiting to be noticed. All the other dogs were barking “PICK ME! PICK ME! and they were picked - over me. (sigh) Just because my muzzle may be a bit gray, or my eyes not as bright or my gait not as gingerly, I got passed over again and again. And then, I got SO LUCKY and someone took me into their home from the GRRAND rescue. Now in my foster home, I go readily into my big kennel. Then when it’s time to go outside, I like to run around the yard and then lay down on my doggie bed under the deck. When inside I will nudge you to be petted, take treats easy from your hand, sit on command, and go lay down when it’s time to. I am learning “Wait” and “Stay.” And I know that “No” means “No”!I walk easy on a leash and love to ride in the car and put my muzzle out the back window. When I am at home and not sleeping, my eyes and ears are attentive to what my foster mom is doing, hoping she will include me. I look forward to having a loving furever family and I will be their buddy and they will be my whole world!Find me on GRRAND’s website - again hoping that someone will PICK ME! PICK ME"! If you would like to meet Peanut, and give this deserving boy a loving home forever, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##1953019##

Story
Doc is a beautiful 4 year old, 100+ish lb Labrador who has just arrived at GRRAND. One thing for sure, this dude needs to lose a pound or...20!  The kennel staff says "He is doing well at the kennel. He loves attention and to be petted. We are told he cannot go with children, so he is looking for an adult only dog savvy home, and we believe he needs to be the only pet in the home. We are still learning about Doc so please check back in a couple of weeks for more info on this handsome guy"!    ##2000231##

Story
The Derby Doggies were surrendered to us from an older lady that was unable to care for them. They are 7 week old (born 3-16) healthy black lab mix puppies having 5 boys and 2 girls. Thanks to our awesome foster parent volunteers for stepping up quickly allowing us to move them directly from the owner into foster homes immediately! These pups are looking for home that abide by the GRRAND puppy guidelines: Puppies are a lot of work, and if you are interested in a GRRAND puppy and have children, PLEASE SEE THE ADOPTION FAQs section of the website for more detailed info. GRRAND policies stipulate a few important things that may stop you from applying, and here are 2 big ones- A: GRRAND will NOT place a puppy under the age of 6 months with families with children under 6 yrs old  B: Any applicant with children under the age of 16, will require a home with direct access to a securely fenced yard... meaning direct access to the yard from the home… so this means no apartments or condos.  As with all puppies, they will need a home where someone is home most of the time as they need to be fed regularly, and let to go outside consistently and constantly ALL DAY LONG so potty training can be a breeze. They will be looking for a family with LOTS of time and patience to socialize and work with a puppy so they can grow up to be good pups! ***Exercise and direction are a must as a tired puppy is a good puppy!! It is a lot of fun, but it is a lot of work, and if you don't have the time, an active and non-stop playful puppy may not be for you!  Families must understand there needs to be constant supervision as children of all ages need to learn to respect an animal and puppies, and need to be taught boundaries. We are excited these pups will get to know what a nice soft bed, in a warm and cozy home with a loving family is all about! We will update as we learn more about these cuties, but if you are interested in meeting them, they are in a foster home waiting for you! Please fill out an application at GRRAND.org   ##2050188##

Story
Vance is a Golden/Pyrenees mix and he is just a beautiful boy who desperately needs a dog-savvy and experienced foster home!! He will curl up on your lap and jump on your bed if you let him. He loves 'his people', which right now is the kennel staff and volunteers.    You won't have to worry about squirrels or chipmunks in your yard  as he'll chase them off for sure!  He definitely needs a dog experienced, adult household, with no kids under 18, and an above ground fenced yard (no apartments or condo type home). Vance is not a real social dog as he likes to be at home with his people! Can anyone take this sweet boy out of the kennel? Any family who is interested in Vance, and has been approved to meet him, MUST still be approved by his trainer. He likes smaller dogs but he is not wild about larger dogs and no cats. This sweet boy likes walks around the park and walks fine on leash. While he was out and about at the kennel, he wanted lots of loving in the office!!! And... Vance Loves fetching toys!We are still learning about this cutie, but if you would like to meet him and get him out of the kennel, please contact GRRAND ASAP! ##947055##

Story
This beautiful girl is Faith... Faith was one of the breeder dogs that was rescued from horrid conditions from the Amish puppy mill rescue in early Dec. Faith & Ivy are a bonded pair and as of now (mid-March 2024) we anticipate that they may be ready to consider being transitioned to the right adoptive family, possibly by June. **** Faith continues to be extremely unsocialized at this time, and the type of home she is needing is not just your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for her and they are:  MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. She also MUST have another stable dog, MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the house, MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16. We are still learning about Faith but we do know she is very fearful of everything right now. You can tell she WANTS to get love but she is very hesitant and when one of the volunteers was able to pet her (once), she laid down in fear. Faith has only known the small confines of a kennel, so this new world she has been introduced to is very scary for her. She finds comfort in other dogs as when she is in the play area with volunteers, she was very indifferent and not so interested in people, but when she is outside with some other dogs, she will get excited and bounce around some.  We know we need to get her out of the kennel so she can begin her new journey in life. She needs to find a forever family or foster family that is excited to show her what love and compassion are about. Faith is going to take time... things can not be rushed for her. As said above, she is going to need to have a stable dog living in the home so they can show her the ropes and help build her confidence in everything, especially people. Faith is considered a flight risk, and will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the home. We do not know how she will be with kids and or chaos, so a home with no kids under the age of 16 is best and we do not know how she is with cats at this time.  If you want to be the one to show Faith what life as a beloved family member is all about, please fill out an application: grrand.org/foster grrand.org/adopt GRRAND dogs are looking for their foster or adoptive homes in our current service area of Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, or Greater Cincinnati and Dayton.
