Story
Pike is one of the Spencer County hoarding dogs taken in by GRRAND in late 2024, and this beautiful girl had made incredible progress since arriving at the kennel. She is a 4-year-old, approximately 50-pound Lab/Golden mix with a soft heart and an even softer spirit.  This girl is a Gentle Soul Ready for Her Second Chance! She has waited for so long for her turn, and we are happy to report she is in a foster home and she is doing great! They say "Pike is ready for her fresh start! She’s had a tough beginning, so she’s still very shy. She wants to meet people, but she’s not quite brave enough for pets yet. (see below May update) Pike does great with other dogs and would thrive in a home with a confident, stable canine companion who can help show her the ropes and demonstrate that love from people is a wonderful thing. Having another dog to lean on will help Pike continue building her confidence. She’s sweet, gentle, housebroken and crate trained. Such a good girl who just needs patience and love to truly shine. If you have a calm home and a big heart, Pike could be your perfect match. Share to help this sweet girl find her forever family!" May update: "She is continuing to make progress and get more comfortable! Seems happy always wagging her tail and loves to spend time outside in the yard. She is great with other dogs and still a bit timid with new people, but once she knows you will warm up. She's seeking out pets from her foster mom and is confident to go upstairs!"   Pike is one of the Spencer County hoarding dogs taken in by GRRAND in late 2024, and this beautiful girl had made incredible progress since arriving at the kennel. She is a 4-year-old, approximately 50-pound Lab/Golden mix with a soft heart and an even softer spirit. While Pike is still a bit nervous as she continues to learn that the world can be a safe place, she’s come a long way. She happily accepts treats from volunteers and absolutely loves being petted once she feels comfortable. Her sweet nature truly shines through when given patience and kindness. Because Pike is a flight risk, a secure, above-ground fenced yard is required, and a home without small children would be best for her comfort and safety. Pike is ready for a loving home with a family who understands that healing takes time—and who can offer the patience, compassion, and unconditional love she deserves. In return, Pike will reward you with quiet devotion and a heart full of gratitude.   If you would like to open your home to adopt Pike, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org    A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions.  It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. A litter of 4 week old puppies were found on the property and all had to be treated at the Emergency Vet for Parvo to save their lives and sadly, one did not make it. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.  If you would like to donate to Pike's care, or the other Spencer County dogs still in GRRAND's care, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/rescue-for-dogs-in-deplorable-conditions   ##2190855##

Story
Daisy (5 year old Lab mix about 60lbs) and her sister Stella (3 year old Goldendoodle about 60lbs) are looking for a home where they will be adopted together and stay together forever. Their owner passsed away and friends took the girls in to help to find them a home. This is what we have been told: Daisy: walks okay on a leash but needs more practice. Daisy paces and has anxiety during storms. When we first brought the girls into the home, our senior dog did not like them and they would get in tiffs, but since they have been very calm with one another other and don't really interact with her much. When Daisy first arrived, she had a significant flea infestation. Since then, she has been consistently treated with flea/tick prevention and has settled in nicely. She is petite, sweet and after her initial excitement upon meeting someone, she is “chill.” Stella: is a sweet, playful dog with a puppy-like personality who would thrive in a home that can continue working on her training, confidence, and leash skills. She is crate trained, and deeply bonded to Daisy. We are hoping to find a rescue placement that will allow the girls to remain together and continue receiving the love and stability they deserve. Daisy and Stella have become very loved in our home and have made significant progress adjusting to a stable environment. The girls were very skinny when they were first "rescued" and their family has done everything to help get them back to a healthy weight and good health in general. The girls are crated separately during the day on work days and also any errand runs. They consider their crates as “safe zones” during the day and may enter even with the family at home. They have free run when they are home with the dogs. They ALWAYS choose to sleep together in an XL crate every evening. They will need a secure fenced yard as that is considered their "exercise zone". Stella is still young and has plenty of energy to burn. These girls are currently living with the family who rescued them and they have a 3 yr old child that the dogs have done well with. The dogs have been with this family for a couple of months, but prior to that, they lived with an older couple who passed away. Our volunteer says "This is definitely a bonded pair of very petite dogs that adore and love eachother and can't be separated." If you are looking for a sweet pair of girls to bring into your home and have the time and committment to help them during their adjustment period, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2760366##

Story
UPDATE on Dove 6-7-2025: Dove is a 16 month old, 35ish lb, Chocolate Lab who was "used" as an Amish breeder dog that GRRAND took in, in 2024.  When they were "finished" with her, she was placed with a young woman who was told by the breeder that she was a little timid, but would come around in a few days.  As we know with unsocialized breeder dogs, that’s NOT the way it works!  We've had a trainer working with Dove and she's now walking better on a leash - inside the kennel boundaries. She will probably never be the dog you take for walks as Dove will be happiest in a very calm, (no kids or chaos) patient, and emotionally secure home with a secure above ground fenced yard (she will be a big flight risk) and another confident/stable dog to show her how to trust people and help build her own confidence. Her people will need to be experienced and committed to giving her the time, and having the patience she will need to go through her adjustments. Dove is most comfortable around other confident dogs. She is making slow but sure progress thanks to the hard work and determination of the GRRAND kennel staff. The work is not done, but the signs are there she will be ok!   From her intake 2024 "A young lady surrendered Dove to GRRAND almost six months ago. She had been deceived by an Amish breeder, claiming Dove was 'shy', and assuring the young lady she was getting an exceptional deal and that Dove would quickly come around.  It turned out Dove had almost completely shut down, so overwhelmed with fear of people that all she wanted to do was escape. It's heartbreaking how slow progress has been, but the good news is, there is progress. She has such fear in her eyes. She will poop and pee if a stranger approaches her in her kennel. She runs in the play yard with several other friendly dogs, but rarely interacts with any of them. She will not come up to a volunteer, even for a treat. We were told by a trainer that many other rescues would have euthanized a dog that was 'so broken'. But that's not GRRAND. On the improvement side, we now have her on a long leash following the trainers around the play yard. People she's very familiar with can sit in her run, pet her, and leave treats at her feet.. She understands when it's time to come in from the play yard, and will run to her kennel on command. She now has a roommate (Ivy), and we're seeing them snuggle next to each other. Dove has never shown any aggression to animals or people.  We are still a long way from being able to send Dove home and progress is slow, but it's there, and one day in the not too distant future we look forward to seeing that twinkle in her eye that all dogs get when they realize they are safe and loved. Please keep Dove in your thoughts and follow her progress."  She is going to need TIME... LOTS OF TIME! And PATIENCE... LOTS OF PATIENCE. Dogs like Dove who have never known love and affection from people, have to work through everything on their own time... not ours. We are still learning about Dove, but if you have had any experience with dogs like Dove, and you think you are the one to help her, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2222361##

Meet Kenton  Kenton is one of the Spencer County hoarding dogs taken in by GRRAND in late 2024, and this handsome boy has made incredible progress since arriving at the kennel. At just 3 years old and around 50 pounds, Kenton is a beautiful Lab/Golden mix with a gentle soul. Kenton is super sweet and enjoys playing with other dogs. Thanks to the dedication of the kennel team, he has come a long way and is now ready to take the next big step—finding his forever home. We are happy to report that he is in a foster home and they say: "Kenton is continuing to open up a bit more. He loves his pack. His favorite things are zoomies with his pack, toys and his dog bed. He is striving and is ready for his forever home. He loves people, kids, dogs but also likes his space." Because Kenton has never been on a leash and can be a bit fearful of people at first, he will need a home with a securely fenced, above-ground yard where he can safely explore and gain confidence. A home with another confident, stable dog would be ideal, as a canine companion will help Kenton continue learning that the world (and people!) are kind and safe. Kenton is looking for a patient, loving family who will give him the time, understanding, and affection he deserves. In return, he’ll reward you with quiet loyalty, sweet companionship, and plenty of tail wags once he feels secure. Could you be the family Kenton has been waiting for to show him patience, love, and lots of gentle pets?   Please check back for updates on Kenton... And if you would like to inquire about him, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Story
Meet Carter!!  Carter is a handsome Golden/Lab mix who came to GRRAND from a hoarding situation in September 2024. While his early life didn’t include much human love, this gentle boy is showing us more of his heart every day. Thankfully, almost all of the dogs Carter came in with, have found their way into loving foster or adoptive homes, and we are happy to say, Carter is in a foster home now too!!! This is what they are telling us: "Carter is quickly becoming quite the couch potato. He is a great companion to sit next to and watch tv together. He is incredibly gentle and although he does not love to snuggle, he will let you give him some soft pets and will delicately eat the treat from your hand.  Carter is completely house trained and is great about going to the bathroom in the backyard. He likes to explore but prefers to be inside in a comfy spot. He hasn’t shown too much interest in toys but loves his bed and the couch.  Thunderstorms are scary for him so he likes to curl up in the bathroom for safety. When he hears sirens outside, he starts howling along with them and I think it’s just the cutest thing." While our kennel volunteers adore him, Carter truly deserves the same chance his friends received. He will need someone willing to give him a lot of patience and a safe place to decompress and learn what home life feels like. He is a flight risk due to his traumatic background, so an above ground fence is absolutely a must. Another stable dog in the home would be good to help build Carter's confidence and show him the ropes. If you’ve already fostered or adopted a Spencer county dog, you know how special they are. Carter deserves that same opportunity. Maybe someone who understands where he came from could be the perfect fit for him? If you’re willing to give Carter a chance, please reach out to GRRAND.org Carter is very sweet and a bit shy, but he’s been warming up beautifully to our kennel volunteers. Lately, he’s started to show how happy he is to see them—following them around the play yard and quietly soaking up the attention. He also plays well with other dogs and recently stole the show during a photo session, smiling big and even posing for the camera like a pro! Because of his limited socialization, Carter will need a home without small children and a securely fenced, above-ground yard. He is considered a flight risk and will need a family that understands his needs and can keep him safe. Patience, consistency, and kindness will be key as Carter continues to build confidence. Having another stable, confident dog in the home is especially important for him—it will help show him the ropes and reassure him that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. Carter is a true sweetheart who just needs the right family to help him blossom. With time, love, and a canine friend by his side, this gentle soul will make a loyal and loving companion. He can’t wait to find the forever home he deserves. If you would like to learn more about Carter, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   If you would like to donate to Carter's care or the care for the remaining dogs he came in with, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/rescue-for-dogs-in-deplorable-conditions A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Story
Cyclone is an 8 year old, female Labrador mix weighing about 45lbs. She is looking for a home where she will be the only dog and get all of the attention she can handle.  She is a very smart girl and knows lots of commands and one would think she knows the human language with the words she has learned! Her release word after being told to wait is "tractor pull", when she is to go to her crate, she is told "in your house", and "cookie" when she gets in her crate. She sleeps on the bed at night and is house-trained and crate-trained. She is quite the lap dog too, and when she gets restless, she is told to "settle". This pretty girl does get freaked during storms, and she finds her space to go for comfort, and is there until she is ready to come out.  We are happy to report she is in a foster home and they say:  Cyclone, (we call her Dolly round here as Dolly fits this gentle girl so much better... but for GRRAND records and communications, she is still Cyclone)Cyclone is a sweetheart who’s happiest in a calm home with her special person. The world can be a little scary for her (cars, busy places, loud noises), but when she’s home? She’s all cuddles, zoomies, and relaxed. Here are a few things about Cyclone:                                                                                                                                                                                                              She Loves snuggles and cozy timeShe loves to do Zoomies in the yard, especially in the snow She is fully housebroken and an excellent communicatorTennis balls = yes (retrieving = no LOL)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    She is a true girly girl who prefers women and good “girly pop” musicCyclone would be perfect for an older adult or anyone looking for a quiet, loving companion. She’s coming out of her shell and has so much love to give."  She can be leary of strangers in the beginning, but once accustomed to you, she is very loving, but its best not to force it. She is a very independent girl and does things on her time. There is no knowledge about cats, other animals or children, so a home where she is Queen of the palace is best for Cyclone.  She is looking for a chill home to live out her best years as the only dog with her people. If you would like to meet Cyclone, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   ##2539971##
