Story
Meet Ruby & Webster (“Webbie”) – A Bonded Pair Full of Love  Webster: "The happy little sidekick helping his best friend learn the world is safe." Webster — lovingly called “Webbie” — is a charming, toy-loving little guy with a petite cream-colored frame, adorable freckled ears, and a heart full of love. Around 2½–3 years old and approximately 35 pounds, Webbie is one of the survivors of the Spencer County hoarding rescue, and he has blossomed beautifully in foster care. Where Ruby is cautious, Webbie is often the brave one first and he helps Ruby feel safe as he reassures her when she’s nervous. And wherever Ruby goes, Webbie is never far behind. Their bond is truly something special. Webbie still has some nervousness himself — especially with leashes and vet visits — but he has made tremendous progress. He loves people once he settles in, absolutely adores other dogs, and has discovered just how fun toys, soft couches, and peaceful naps can be. His favorite things include:  Zooming around the fenced yard  Snuggling with Ruby  Toys and playtime  Car rides  Lounging around the house with his people  Making new dog friends Webbie and Ruby are both housebroken and crate trained, though they do wonderfully free roaming in the home. They are respectful house guests who simply want comfort, consistency, and love. Webbie is:  Dog friendly  Cat friendly  Good with children  Neutered and fully vetted  Learning confidence every day Because of his background, Webbie will still need: • A secure above ground fenced yard • Patience during transitions • A gentle adopter who understands fearful dogs • To remain with Ruby, his bonded companion These two have already survived more than most dogs ever should. Now they deserve the peaceful, loving forever home they’ve waited so patiently for. The best part? When they finally trust you enough to curl up beside you together — Ruby tucked safely near Webbie — you’ll understand just how special these dogs truly are.  To apply to adopt Ruby & Webster together, please visit GRRAND.org NOTE: Ruby and Webster's foster mom is a (non-formal) trainer that originally got them because they were two of the most shutdown and introverted Spencer County kids. Ruby hid under the cots at the GRRAND kennel and if you didn't know she was there, you wouldn't know she was there. They have come a long, long way. They are uber joined at the hip, so they are textbook "bonded". They went from wouldn't allow you to see them, touch them or interact with them, to functioning like normal dogs. They will need an adopter with patience, because they need time to warm up to strangers, but they have warmed up to all of their foster's family and they adore her other dogs. Of course, for a while, she was the only one they would allow to interact with them. She is super patient with dogs and it's extraordinary andnthey have been so lucky to have been wih her. ##2190860##

Story
Pike is one of the Spencer County hoarding dogs taken in by GRRAND in late 2024, and this beautiful girl had made incredible progress since arriving at the kennel. She is a 4-year-old, approximately 50-pound Lab/Golden mix with a soft heart and an even softer spirit.  This girl is a Gentle Soul Ready for Her Second Chance! She has waited for so long for her turn, and we are happy to report she is in a foster home and she is doing great! They say "Pike is ready for her fresh start! She’s had a tough beginning, so she’s still very shy. She wants to meet people, but she’s not quite brave enough for pets yet. (see below May update) Pike does great with other dogs and would thrive in a home with a confident, stable canine companion who can help show her the ropes and demonstrate that love from people is a wonderful thing. Having another dog to lean on will help Pike continue building her confidence. She’s sweet, gentle, housebroken and crate trained. Such a good girl who just needs patience and love to truly shine. If you have a calm home and a big heart, Pike could be your perfect match. Share to help this sweet girl find her forever family!" May update: "She is continuing to make progress and get more comfortable! Seems happy always wagging her tail and loves to spend time outside in the yard. She is great with other dogs and still a bit timid with new people, but once she knows you will warm up. She's seeking out pets from her foster mom and is confident to go upstairs!"   Pike is one of the Spencer County hoarding dogs taken in by GRRAND in late 2024, and this beautiful girl had made incredible progress since arriving at the kennel. She is a 4-year-old, approximately 50-pound Lab/Golden mix with a soft heart and an even softer spirit. While Pike is still a bit nervous as she continues to learn that the world can be a safe place, she’s come a long way. She happily accepts treats from volunteers and absolutely loves being petted once she feels comfortable. Her sweet nature truly shines through when given patience and kindness. Because Pike is a flight risk, a secure, above-ground fenced yard is required, and a home without small children would be best for her comfort and safety. Pike is ready for a loving home with a family who understands that healing takes time—and who can offer the patience, compassion, and unconditional love she deserves. In return, Pike will reward you with quiet devotion and a heart full of gratitude.   If you would like to open your home to adopt Pike, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org    A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions.  It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. A litter of 4 week old puppies were found on the property and all had to be treated at the Emergency Vet for Parvo to save their lives and sadly, one did not make it. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.  If you would like to donate to Pike's care, or the other Spencer County dogs still in GRRAND's care, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/rescue-for-dogs-in-deplorable-conditions   ##2190855##

Story
Meet Ruby & Webster (“Webbie”) – A Bonded Pair Full of Love  Ruby is "The shy little girl with the freckled ears and the gentle soul." Ruby is the quieter half of this beautiful bonded pair — a petite cream-colored sweetheart with soft reddish-speckled ears, expressive eyes, and the kind of tender spirit that slowly melts your heart once she feels safe. At approximately 2½–3 years old and around 35 pounds, Ruby has come an incredibly long way since being rescued from the Spencer County hoarding case in Kentucky in 2024. Ruby didn’t always know kindness, safety, or stability. Because of that, she can still be timid with new things, loud noises, and especially leashes. She is considered a flight risk and will absolutely need a patient adopter, a secure above ground fenced yard, and a calm, gentle approach as she continues to build confidence. But once Ruby trusts you? You’ll see the sweetest little shadow emerge. She loves:  Snuggling close  Playing with toys  Running free in the yard  Car rides  Curling up beside Webster (“Webbie”), her emotional support and best friend Ruby is deeply bonded to Webster, and Webster is deeply bonded to Ruby. They rely on one another for comfort, confidence, and security, and they must be adopted together. Despite her difficult beginning, Ruby has made amazing progress in foster care. She is:  Housebroken Crate trained  Able to free roam in the home without issues  Good with other dogs  Cat friendly  Gentle with children  Spayed, vaccinated, and on preventatives Ruby doesn’t need perfection. She just needs someone willing to love her gently, move slowly with her, and let her continue discovering how wonderful life can be. Watching Ruby blossom is incredibly rewarding — the tiny tail wags, the cautious snuggles, the moments where fear gives way to trust. She is proof that healing happens with patience and love. And thankfully, she doesn’t have to do it alone… because she has Webbie by her side.  To apply, visit GRRAND.org and fill out an application at www.grrand.org   ##2190863##

Story
UPDATE on Dove 6-7-2025: Dove is a 16 month old, 35ish lb, Chocolate Lab who was "used" as an Amish breeder dog that GRRAND took in, in 2024.  When they were "finished" with her, she was placed with a young woman who was told by the breeder that she was a little timid, but would come around in a few days.  As we know with unsocialized breeder dogs, that’s NOT the way it works!  We've had a trainer working with Dove and she's now walking better on a leash - inside the kennel boundaries. She will probably never be the dog you take for walks as Dove will be happiest in a very calm, (no kids or chaos) patient, and emotionally secure home with a secure above ground fenced yard (she will be a big flight risk) and another confident/stable dog to show her how to trust people and help build her own confidence. Her people will need to be experienced and committed to giving her the time, and having the patience she will need to go through her adjustments. Dove is most comfortable around other confident dogs. She is making slow but sure progress thanks to the hard work and determination of the GRRAND kennel staff. The work is not done, but the signs are there she will be ok!   From her intake 2024 "A young lady surrendered Dove to GRRAND almost six months ago. She had been deceived by an Amish breeder, claiming Dove was 'shy', and assuring the young lady she was getting an exceptional deal and that Dove would quickly come around.  It turned out Dove had almost completely shut down, so overwhelmed with fear of people that all she wanted to do was escape. It's heartbreaking how slow progress has been, but the good news is, there is progress. She has such fear in her eyes. She will poop and pee if a stranger approaches her in her kennel. She runs in the play yard with several other friendly dogs, but rarely interacts with any of them. She will not come up to a volunteer, even for a treat. We were told by a trainer that many other rescues would have euthanized a dog that was 'so broken'. But that's not GRRAND. On the improvement side, we now have her on a long leash following the trainers around the play yard. People she's very familiar with can sit in her run, pet her, and leave treats at her feet.. She understands when it's time to come in from the play yard, and will run to her kennel on command. She now has a roommate (Ivy), and we're seeing them snuggle next to each other. Dove has never shown any aggression to animals or people.  We are still a long way from being able to send Dove home and progress is slow, but it's there, and one day in the not too distant future we look forward to seeing that twinkle in her eye that all dogs get when they realize they are safe and loved. Please keep Dove in your thoughts and follow her progress."  She is going to need TIME... LOTS OF TIME! And PATIENCE... LOTS OF PATIENCE. Dogs like Dove who have never known love and affection from people, have to work through everything on their own time... not ours. We are still learning about Dove, but if you have had any experience with dogs like Dove, and you think you are the one to help her, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##2222361##

Meet Kenton  Kenton is one of the Spencer County hoarding dogs taken in by GRRAND in late 2024, and this handsome boy has made incredible progress since arriving at the kennel. At just 3 years old and around 50 pounds, Kenton is a beautiful Lab/Golden mix with a gentle soul. Kenton is super sweet and enjoys playing with other dogs. Thanks to the dedication of the kennel team, he has come a long way and is now ready to take the next big step—finding his forever home. We are happy to report that he is in a foster home and they say: "Kenton is continuing to open up a bit more. He loves his pack. His favorite things are zoomies with his pack, toys and his dog bed. He is striving and is ready for his forever home. He loves people, kids, dogs but also likes his space." Because Kenton has never been on a leash and can be a bit fearful of people at first, he will need a home with a securely fenced, above-ground yard where he can safely explore and gain confidence. A home with another confident, stable dog would be ideal, as a canine companion will help Kenton continue learning that the world (and people!) are kind and safe. Kenton is looking for a patient, loving family who will give him the time, understanding, and affection he deserves. In return, he’ll reward you with quiet loyalty, sweet companionship, and plenty of tail wags once he feels secure. Could you be the family Kenton has been waiting for to show him patience, love, and lots of gentle pets?   Please check back for updates on Kenton... Story
Meet Carter!!  Carter is a handsome Golden/Lab mix who came to GRRAND from a hoarding situation in September 2024. While his early life didn’t include much human love, this gentle boy is showing us more of his heart every day. Thankfully, almost all of the dogs Carter came in with, have found their way into loving foster or adoptive homes, and we are happy to say, Carter is in a foster home now too!!! This is what they are telling us: "Carter is quickly becoming quite the couch potato. He is a great companion to sit next to and watch tv together. He is incredibly gentle and although he does not love to snuggle, he will let you give him some soft pets and will delicately eat the treat from your hand.  Carter is completely house trained and is great about going to the bathroom in the backyard. He likes to explore but prefers to be inside in a comfy spot. He hasn’t shown too much interest in toys but loves his bed and the couch.  Thunderstorms are scary for him so he likes to curl up in the bathroom for safety. When he hears sirens outside, he starts howling along with them and I think it’s just the cutest thing." While our kennel volunteers adore him, Carter truly deserves the same chance his friends received. He will need someone willing to give him a lot of patience and a safe place to decompress and learn what home life feels like. He is a flight risk due to his traumatic background, so an above ground fence is absolutely a must. Another stable dog in the home would be good to help build Carter's confidence and show him the ropes. If you’ve already fostered or adopted a Spencer county dog, you know how special they are. Carter deserves that same opportunity. Maybe someone who understands where he came from could be the perfect fit for him? If you’re willing to give Carter a chance, please reach out to GRRAND.org Carter is very sweet and a bit shy, but he’s been warming up beautifully to our kennel volunteers. Lately, he’s started to show how happy he is to see them—following them around the play yard and quietly soaking up the attention. He also plays well with other dogs and recently stole the show during a photo session, smiling big and even posing for the camera like a pro! Because of his limited socialization, Carter will need a home without small children and a securely fenced, above-ground yard. He is considered a flight risk and will need a family that understands his needs and can keep him safe. Patience, consistency, and kindness will be key as Carter continues to build confidence. Having another stable, confident dog in the home is especially important for him—it will help show him the ropes and reassure him that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. Carter is a true sweetheart who just needs the right family to help him blossom. With time, love, and a canine friend by his side, this gentle soul will make a loyal and loving companion. He can’t wait to find the forever home he deserves. If you would like to learn more about Carter, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   If you would like to donate to Carter's care or the care for the remaining dogs he came in with, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/rescue-for-dogs-in-deplorable-conditions A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm.
