Story
Some young dogs are nonstop chaos. Landon is not one of them. Landon is an approximately 8 month old mixed breed boy around 40 pounds with a calm, easygoing personality that makes him incredibly easy to enjoy. He loves going on walks, exploring, and splashing around in the pond, but he is not one of those dogs that constantly needs stimulation every second of the day. Most of the time, Landon is perfectly content lounging around nearby, soaking up the day, and flashing his signature smile at everyone around him. He is great with dogs and cats and has a naturally relaxed, social personality. He enjoys playing and adventuring with other dogs but is not overly pushy or hyper. He also is not much of a barker, which is always a nice bonus. Landon has a really nice balance to his personality. He is young enough to happily join you on hikes, walks, trips to the lake, or outdoor adventures, but mellow enough to settle down and relax once the fun is over. If you are looking for a happy, adaptable dog that is up for whatever life brings without turning your home upside down, Landon would be a wonderful fit. Good fit: someone looking for a relaxed young dog that enjoys adventures but also knows how to chill. Adoption process: All adoptions are completed prior to transport. Dogs are picked up at designated transport locations. If an adoption doesn’t work out (rare, but life happens), we always take our dogs back. Location: Oklahoma (available to approved out-of-state adopters via transport) Health: Fully vetted (spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested) Adoption fee: $500 (includes transport + vetting) Transport routes: WA, OR, ID, MT, UT, WY, CO, MN, WI, IA, IL, IN, OH, PA, MD, NY, NJ, VT Think you might be a good fit? Story
Some dogs are complicated. Holger is wonderfully uncomplicated. Holger is an approximately one year old mixed breed boy around 45 pounds with a calm, balanced personality that makes him incredibly easy to live with. He is happy lounging nearby for most of the day but is always ready to join you when it is time to go explore. Whether that means walks, outdoor adventures, hanging out in the yard, or simply relaxing at home, Holger is just happy to be included. He is great with dogs and naturally submissive or neutral around them. He has no interest in dominating other dogs or creating drama and tends to have a very relaxed social style. He is also great with cats. Holger is not much of a barker and overall just has a very content, steady personality. He is not overly needy, hyper, or demanding. He simply adapts well to whatever the day brings. Dogs like Holger sometimes get overlooked because they are not flashy or chaotic enough to stand out online. But in real life, these are often the dogs people end up loving the most because they fit so naturally into everyday life. Good fit: someone looking for a calm, well-balanced companion that enjoys both relaxing and adventuring. Story
Meet Bolt Three years ago Bolt was found as a homeless starving puppy in Amman, Jordan. (Many dogs in this country are treated poorly and treated like vermin, so Bolt was lucky that a kind-hearted man rescued him.) The gentleman (whose name is Ahmad) was shocked to discover that someone had injured Bolt so badly that he could only open his mouth about 1/8 of an inch. Bolt couldn’t chew, bark, pant or defend himself. And the only way he could eat was to push tiny bits of soft food (between his front teeth) using his “wrist”. So Ahmad sent Bolt to a doctor who claimed he could fix Bolt’s broken jaw. But sadly, the surgery was not done properly, so it was unsuccessful. Ahmad wanted to do everything he could to see that Bolt had a chance at a happy, normal life. So he saved his money for two years until he finally was able to pay for Bolt’s very expensive flight( from Jordan) to our small special needs rescue (One Starfish Rehoming Connections) in Wisconsin. The 24 hr. flight was very traumatic for Bolt, so it took a few weeks for him to recover. But after he settled in, we scheduled Bolt’s surgery (to be done by Dr. John Silbernagel, a well-renowned Board Certified orthopedic veterinary surgeon in Madison, Wi.) Fortunately, this surgery was a success!!!! Although Bolt's face is still a little bit "askew" (we think it makes him look all the more charming) he no longer has any special needs. And he is now able to open his mouth and do all the “doggie” things that dogs do—chewing on bones, panting, barking, etc. Bolt has endured a lot of suffering, but he is still a very sweet, quiet laid-back fellow who LOVES to “shake hands” with everyone he meets! Bolt is ready for a new beginning—with an adopter who will love him and care for him for the rest of his life. He would prefer not to be a latchkey dog (so an adopter who works from home, is retired, or just works part time would be ideal). We hope to find an adopter who is just the right fit for Bolt. (We are, admittedly going to be fussy.) But, if you think you are the perfect match for our “almost-perfect” dog, please e-mail us at: sylvialovesme@gmail.com and tell us about yourself, your family, your daily schedule, if you have other pets, etc. Then, if it sounds like Bolt would be a good fit for you, we will send you an application and we’ll then try to arrange a meet-and-greet.
