Story
The sociable Griffin is eager to meet his new family! This adorable 2-month-old (born around June 15, 2025) Maltese/Chihuahua mix weighs just 3.3 pounds and is a charming white and gold pup. He and his sister Gidget are available for adoption—either together or separately—so you can choose the perfect match for your home. Though they would love a home together. Griffin is a sweet, lively puppy who loves to play and cuddle. This handsome boy is ready to find his forever home and promises to bring joy and gleeful moments into your life! As a young pup, he’ll need plenty of chew toys and patience with house training, he is working on it now. He’ll also be ready to be leash trained once fully vaccinated. Griffin is scheduled for neutering soon but is available for adoption now. He’s already microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. Due to his small size, we recommend adult-only homes or homes with older children. If you think Griffin would be a perfect fit for your family, don’t wait—apply today and add this delightful boy to your life! If we need to look something up later and you used a different email we are often not able to find it. 2. Adopt a Pet and Petfinders ask you to send us an enquiry. This always delays our response. (Why) a. Our biographies are always very detailed. Therefore sending an enquiry asking us to repeat what it says in the biography causes a lot more work and delays our response. b. We are a small non-profit and do not always have the help to answer as many enquiries as we get. c. Again our Biographies are very detailed and if you just click the link near the bottom of their bio you can fill out an application which we will respond to. 3. For the AFC website (scroll down to the bio at the bottom it says (apply to adopt today- click that link) www.animalfriendsconnect.org 4. For Petfinders ( scroll down to the biography then click the adoption link) http://animalfriendsconnect.org/adoption-application-dogs/ 5. Story
Pending adoption We have a transport where we will be personally driving our dogs home leaving on either 11/14/25 or 12/13/25 to NorCal, OR, and WA. Surrounding states will be added to our route as needed ☺️ We would love to add Misty to our trip for the right home! Meet Misty — our sweet little Maltese/Yorkie mix with a heart as mighty as her tiny 4.7-lb frame. She turned a year old on January 20, 2025, and though she’s fully grown, her personality still carries that spark of youthful curiosity and wonder that makes her such a joy to have around. She’s dainty, adorable, and full of gentle affection — the kind of dog who wants to be close, loves to be loved, and finds happiness in every quiet, shared moment with her person. Misty came to us after her prior owner realized that caring for such a small breed wasn’t the right fit for her lifestyle. Though she adored Misty immensely, she wanted her to be in a home where she could be truly understood, valued, and cherished for the tiny but spirited soul that she is. From the very beginning, it was clear Misty’s heart had so much love to give — she just needed a bit of structure and guidance to help her understand that love is built on trust, not control. In her previous home, Misty was doted on and never told “no.” What she wanted, she got — and while it came from a place of affection, it left her without boundaries or a sense of respectful sharing. Over time, that lack of structure caused her to become possessive over prized items like toys or treats — things she felt she had to guard because she’d never learned that she didn’t need to. When we brought her into our care, we focused on rebuilding her sense of safety and security. Here, Misty has made incredible progress. She’s learned that boundaries aren’t punishments — they’re safety nets. We’ve worked gently but firmly with her to remove high-value items from free access and only reintroduce them during crate time, where she knows those things are hers and hers alone. This structure has given her confidence and greatly reduced her anxiety about sharing space and resources. She now plays beautifully with other dogs, enjoys the company of our own dogs, and would absolutely thrive with another respectful, well-mannered pet — as long as her new home continues the consistent structure she’s responded to so well. Misty is crate trained, pad trained, and house trained with supervision due to her small size — she’s always accompanied outside and follows a reliable daily routine that keeps her on track. She’s also leash trained and loves taking her time to smell every flower she passes on her walks 🌸. She rides wonderfully in the car, making her the perfect co-pilot for errands, road trips, or just an afternoon drive around town. She’s calm, patient, and not a barker, though she’ll give a gentle alert if she hears something unusual — just enough to let you know she’s on duty before settling right back down again. She sleeps soundly through the night and does great in her crate, but she’s equally content curling up on her own bed — or in yours if you invite her (she’ll never say no to cuddles). She’s a loyal little companion who loves with her entire being, and once she trusts you, she’ll follow you like your very own shadow. Because of her small size and her history of wanting to guard special items, we’re recommending a home without small children — not because she wouldn’t love them, but because a quieter environment will help her continue feeling secure. Visiting grandchildren or occasional younger guests would be perfectly fine — it’s the daily dynamic of unpredictable play or toy sharing that she finds overwhelming. Misty is wonderful with older children, men, women, and other dogs, and she’s shown beautiful adaptability here. With continued consistency and calm leadership, she’ll only keep growing into the best version of herself. She truly wants to please and has shown us that she learns fast when she knows she’s safe and understood. Adoption Fee is on our website at the bottom of her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/misty-1 Her adoption fee covers her spay (which required extended anesthesia time as she was in heat), a full dental exam and cleaning (two retained baby teeth were safely removed), her microchip and lifetime registration, core vaccinations, and vet health clearance. As always, her adoption fee also helps cover the months of individualized care, training, and professional grooming she’s received during her time with us — every ounce of love, patience, and progress that’s gone into helping Misty find balance and confidence again. Misty’s journey is a reminder that even the smallest dogs can have the biggest hearts and that sometimes, all they need is a little structure to let their love shine through. Whoever earns her trust will gain one of the most loyal, tender, and devoted companions imaginable — a tiny dog with an enormous capacity for love. ❤️

Story
Meet Dany – the Sweet, Loyal Little Companion Looking for Her Forever Home! (This dog is not at the shelter. She is being rehomed by her current owner.) Dany is a 7-year-old female Maltipoo with a soft, curly coat of black fur with white spots and an affectionate, sensitive nature. She has been loved and well-cared for her entire life, and her family is heartbroken to rehome her. Due to a recent move and preparing for a second child, they simply can’t give Dany the time and attention she deserves. Dany is a sweet and friendly girl, especially around children, and she has lived successfully with other dogs. She warms up well to visitors after initially barking to announce new people—she just needs a moment to get comfortable. She is: &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143 Spayed &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143 Up to date on vaccines &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143 Potty trained &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143 Crate trained &#226&#156&#148&#239&#184&#143 Healthy and vet-cared for Dany does have some typical small-dog behaviors, including resource guarding high-value treats, food, or toys. She has never bitten, but she may growl or show her teeth if approached when she has something special. With proper management and respect for her boundaries, she does very well. In her new home, Dany would thrive with someone who understands her cues, provides structure, and gives her the love and attention she’s used to. She’s a loyal little dog who bonds deeply with her people. If you’re looking for an affectionate companion who enjoys being part of the family, Dany might be the perfect match. Location: Sacramento, CA Good with: Other dogs, children Best Home: Loving, patient, and able to help her feel safe and supported If you are interested in Dany or would like more information, please reach out and we will connect you with her current family. All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months).    All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Story
&#226&#156&#168 Meet Boq Wicked — 6 lbs of tiny, determined heart &#226&#156&#168 Available for Adoption through Umbrella of Hope Boq Wicked is a 9-year-old, 6-pound Maltese mix with a soft black and white coat, a gentle spirit, and a lifetime of stories behind his cloudy eyes. He may be small, but this little gentleman has preferences, routines, and a quirky charm that make him unforgettable to those lucky enough to earn his trust. His Personality Boq is happiest when the world is quiet, steady, and predictable. His absolute favorite part of the day? His walks. He walks beautifully on leash and will trot right alongside you like the world’s tiniest hiking buddy. He gets along well with other dogs, but people are a different story — Boq needs time, patience, and a calm approach before he feels safe with new humans. Once he trusts you, he’s sweet, affectionate in his own gentle way, and very food-motivated. (Blueberries, watermelon, and chicken? Yes, please.) Because Boq is deaf and has limited vision, he can be reactive if startled. He’s not recommended for a home with small children. His perfect match is someone experienced with shy or special-needs pups — someone who recognizes that progress may be slow… but absolutely worth it. Daily Life with Boq • Not fully housebroken, but does well if taken outside regularly • Doesn’t enjoy crates, carriers, or car rides • Likes to explore, sniff, and take in the world on his walks • Occasionally plays with small toys (when the mood strikes) Boq isn’t a turnkey dog — he’s a relationship dog. He needs someone who sees beyond first impressions and understands the quiet magic of earning the trust of a fearful pup. In return, you’ll get loyalty, routine, companionship, and the joy of being his safe place. If you’re patient, compassionate, and looking for a small senior buddy who just needs someone to believe in him, Boq Wicked might be your perfect match.
