Story
How do you spell silly? We spell it S P E N C E R! This sweet boy will steal your heart! He is a 1–2-year-old, 17-pound, white, Maltese / Poodle mix. He was brought to us as a stray and never claimed by an owner. He is gentle and sweet and wants to be your shadow. Can you help him be his best self? Obedience training is a great way to bond. He is a total love bug and wants to engage with his person. He is treat motivated! Do you need a walking buddy? Spencer LOVES his walks and walks well on the leash. He will require some housetraining. He does well following the command “Go Potty”. It establishes good habits and it what we use at the sanctuary. Spencer is a good boy and deserves the BEST home! Breed experience is a requirement to adopt this boy. He will require regular professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Spencer can JUMP and CLIMB so please have a secure fence and plan to accompany outside! He is waiting to fill your heart and home with love. If we need to look something up later and you used a different email we are often not able to find it. 2. Adopt a Pet and Petfinders ask you to send us an enquiry. This always delays our response. (Why) a. Our biographies are always very detailed. Therefore sending an enquiry asking us to repeat what it says in the biography causes a lot more work and delays our response. b. We are a small non-profit and do not always have the help to answer as many enquiries as we get. c. Again our Biographies are very detailed and if you just click the link near the bottom of their bio you can fill out an application which we will respond to. 3. For the AFC website (scroll down to the bio at the bottom it says (apply to adopt today- click that link) www.animalfriendsconnect.org 4. For Petfinders ( scroll down to the biography then click the adoption link) http://animalfriendsconnect.org/adoption-application-dogs/ 5. Story
15 yr old, 10 lb Maltese Mix NEUTERED MALE for ADOPTION Meet Opossum Rabbit!     Opossum is a 15 year 10 lb old Maltese mix that came to us from San Jose Animal Care Center     He has lived quite a life making it to 15 and is looking for somewhere to lay his head for his final retirement. All he wants is to lay next to his person, relax and enjoy each other’s company.         UPDATE 9/17/23: After six months in our program and a signficant and unexpected improvement in his condition after all the love and care he has received, he is no longer considered a hospice adoption.     He takes thyroid meds and an OTC supplement but will be getting neutered, a dental and his cherry eye (cosmetic) repaired soon     This is what his foster mom says about him.   “Similar to the name he was given “Opossum”, he is very slow and freezes up when something startles him. Which is just about everything. This could be due to his impaired vision or hearing. He will seek out your attention and look for you if you aren’t in his immediate sight. His ideal family would be one that prefers to hold him on your lap or allow him to lay next to you while you binge watch your favorite show.   For the most part Opposum is very quiet unless he is in the kennel. He HATES being confined in a kennel. He does ride well in the car strapped in a harness.   Opossum has had a few accidents in his foster home. But he is learning to go out the back door when he needs to do his business. He enjoys roaming in the backyard shaking all the smells. He will also use a potty pad if they are available. He’s ok on the leash but walks very very slow. He would LOVE a dog stroller to keep up with everyone else to enjoy the outdoors. Most of the time he spends his days sleeping in various beds. He’s not picky as long as there is an empty one close by.     Toys or treats don’t impress him but snuggles do.”     If you have the love to give this boy for the time he has left, send us an email at beourpet@gmail.com.   If you are unable to adopt but would like to help find Opossum a retirement buddy of his own, please ***SHARE THIS POST***  GENERAL INFO:   Housebroken?: Eh, marginal but does well with potty pad Crate Trained?: NO HATES IT Leash Trained?: Yes Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: Probably Good with cats?: Yes, we think so Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: yes Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5 Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.  Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet.  Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.   We thank Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services and give a special thanks to volunteer photographers Tanya, Barbara, Kristy, Christine, Teressa and Natalie.  We are on all social media at @umbrellaofhope and we invite you to follow us and share which helps more people see and adopt our pets.  To help our ALL VOLUNTEER team rescue more senior, special needs, medically needy and hospice animals (and a few 'typical' ones along the way, please consider making a tax-deductible (TAX ID 45-4103375) donation online at www.paypal.me/UOH or Venmo @umbrellaof-hoperescue or Zelle beourpet@gmail.com.   You can also buy tees, tanks. sweatshirts, hats and bandannas where all proceeds benefit our animals https://ruff-life-rescue-wear.myshopify.com/collections/umbrella-of-hope We also have an Etsy store where the merchandise is made by volunteers and supporters, changes regularly and 100% of the proceeds benefit our medical fund https://www.etsy.com/shop/Umbrellaofhope Amazon Wish List tinyurl.com/pineapplewish  October 1, 2023, 2:51 pm

Story
Cody and Molly are a sweet bonded pair who came to us after their mom passed away. They are kind, considerate and gentle little lambs. Cody is 28 lbs (needs to lose some weight!) and Molly is 13 lbs. Cody is 17 years young and Molly is 18 years young. They've been indoor dogs for a long time with little to no outdoor time and they're happy to enjoy the great outdoors, especially when it's sunny! These two really are the sweetest pair of buddies they look forward to spending forever and ever together. Cody came to us with bladder stones, had surgery and is now on a special diet to help prevent this from occurring again. Molly and Cody are a very sweet pair who don't ask for much, just a loving, warm and cozy home where they get to enjoy indoor and outdoor sunshine time together.
