He may be small, but this little gentleman has preferences, routines, and a quirky charm that make him unforgettable to those lucky enough to earn his trust. His Personality Boq is happiest when the world is quiet, steady, and predictable. His absolute favorite part of the day? His walks. He walks beautifully on leash and will trot right alongside you like the world’s tiniest hiking buddy. He gets along well with other dogs, but people are a different story — Boq needs time, patience, and a calm approach before he feels safe with new humans. Once he trusts you, he’s sweet, affectionate in his own gentle way, and very food-motivated. (Blueberries, watermelon, and chicken? Yes, please.) Because Boq is deaf and has limited vision, he can be reactive if startled. He’s not recommended for a home with small children. I adopted Calla Lilly from a rescue about 5 years ago. Her owner had died. She is a senior but has all the energy of a puppy. She is very loving and likes kissing and sitting on your lap. Currently she lives with a very old maltese. She is a great watchdog and will especially protect you from squirrels. She is only 7 lbs, but thinks she is a Great Dane. That’s the problem. I am marrying a man who has a German Shepherd mix, and Calla thinks she needs to protect me from him. We are concerned that Calla could be injured if they find an opportunity to fight or if the German Shepherd accidentally hurts her while trying to play. The maltese will not provoke the German Shepherd and is much bigger. She would probably do well in a family with children who would run and play with her.

Murdoc is a three-year-old Maltese mix who was found stray in Fresno and is now ready for a fresh start. This little guy is understandably timid at first, but underneath that cautious exterior is a gentle, loving heart that’s slowly learning to trust again. Murdoc is also deaf, and it only makes him more special. Deaf dogs are incredibly intuitive and tend to form deep, attentive bonds with their people. Handsome Mikey is the poster boy for a companion breed! We believe he is a Maltese mix. He came to us as a stray with his sister Mindy. They were running around a neighborhood for several weeks where people in the neighborhood were all feeding them. They are both a little chubby and need to lose a pound or two. Can you spoil them with love not food? Mikey loves healthy treats like carrots and apples. Mikey is 1.5 years old and weighs a hefty 17.5 pounds. He needs a conscientious owner that will get him to a healthy weight. He is a calm and quiet boy. He came to us severely matted and had to be shaved to his skin in some places. He will require regular professional grooming to look his best. He keeps his kennel clean at night. He loves walks and behaves well on the leash. He loves car rides.
