Story
15 yr old, 10 lb Maltese Mix NEUTERED MALE for ADOPTION Meet Opossum Rabbit!     Opossum is the newest member of our sunset club and is available as an adoptable hospice. He is a 15 year 10 lb old Maltese mix that came to us from San Jose Animal Care Center     He is considered an adaptable hospice because he is 15 years old. He is currently only on thyroid meds. He has lived quite a life making it to 15 and is looking for somewhere to lay his head for his final retirement. All he wants is to lay next to his person, relax and enjoy each other’s company.       This is what his foster mom says about him.   “Similar to the name he was given “Opossum”, he is very slow and freezes up when something startles him. Which is just about everything. This could be due to his impaired vision or hearing. He will seek out your attention and look for you if you aren’t in his immediate sight. His ideal family would be one that prefers to hold him on your lap or allow him to lay next to you while you binge watch your favorite show.   For the most part Opposum is very quiet unless he is in the kennel. He HATES being confined in a kennel. He does ride well in the car strapped in a harness.   Opossum has had a few accidents in his foster home. But he is learning to go out the back door when he needs to do his business. He enjoys roaming in the backyard shaking all the smells. He will also use a potty pad if they are available. He’s ok on the leash but walks very very slow. He would LOVE a dog stroller to keep up with everyone else to enjoy the outdoors. Most of the time he spends his days sleeping in various beds. He’s not picky as long as there is an empty one close by.     Toys or treats don’t impress him but snuggles do.”     If you have the love to give this boy for the time he has left, send us an email at beourpet@gmail.com.   If you are unable to adopt but would like to help find Opossum a retirement buddy of his own, please ***SHARE THIS POST***  GENERAL INFO:   Housebroken?: Eh, marginal but does well with potty pad Crate Trained?: NO HATES IT Leash Trained?: Yes Rides Well in Car?: Yes Non-Shedding?: Probably Good with cats?: Yes, we think so Good with dogs?: Yes Qualifies for Seniors for Seniors?: yes Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5 Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.  Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. Story
Tootsie came to us with many thanks to a kind-hearted shelter staff who agreed to foster her. She is a spunky 8-year-old, 8 lb gal who needed a hind leg amputation but she sure hasn’t skipped a beat (sssssshhhhh [🤫] she doesn't know she's a tripod). She is good with other dogs, cats and gentle kiddos. She's doing very well with her house training. When home alone, she uses the pee pads and, when someone is home, she's good about going outside. Tootsie is doing well on training and recall. She has found ALL the cat beds in her foster home and loves them each and every one. She loves to cuddle and loves tummy rubs. Although shy at first, she’s improving with being social after being given a moment to settle in. She warms up to women first, and takes more time with men. She will be going to our vet on April 6th for her much-needed dental and spay surgery. After this, she's ready to get serious about finding her forever and ever family!

Story
Note: Due to his extreme leash reactivity and lack of socialization, please indicate in your application that you are willing to take on a dog with serious behavioral issues. Pogo is a four year old Maltese mix and is happy as long as he's by your side. He lacked training when I adopted him from the shelter, but he's been working hard to learn the basics (work in progress). He's smart and treat-motivated, though he can be a bit stubborn. Unfortunately, he was never properly socialized and has a high degree of leash reactivity towards other dogs (fear reaction, according to a trainer). This makes walks a challenge and precludes taking him out in public for most outings, though he doesn't react negatively to friendly dogs he knows. He's not known to bite. As a first-time dog owner with my own health issues, he's become too much for me to manage. He has a lot of potential, and would do well with an experienced dog-owner to complete his training and help him to gain confidence.

Story
Our dog Tsugs is a sweet, loving white fluff ball who can't get enough of playing ball and head scratches. We adopted him from the Oakland SPCA several years ago, and he's estimated to be 8 years old. When it's just us at home he's relaxed, curious and often sleeping, but when friends are over or the Amazon carrier knocks he gets so afraid, so full of barks and concern that we have to put him in another room with the door closed and the white noise on. We're about to have our second child (he's great with baby #1!), and that means parents visiting, and soon a nanny, and generally more activity around the house. We just don't think he's ready for it, but we know there's someone that has a quieter life that would love to have Tsugs in it. He's primarily an indoors pup. We're hoping to find someone who can offer Tsugs a permanent home that's not too busy where he can feel safe, play ball, get head scratches and avoid getting stressed.

Story
What an adorable little dog - and not "Too Little" she weighs closer to 20 pounds, and is curly/wavy coated and bi-color, having a lot of golden-tan curls covering most of her body. Currently in foster care....after she spent time boarding at a vet office to keep her safe off the streets of Merced. More soon on this adorable girl!
