Story
Angel is a sweet 7-year-old Maltese who is looking for a patient, loving home where she can feel safe and continue building her confidence. Angel does well with other dogs and would be happiest in a home with another friendly, confident dog to keep her company and help her feel more comfortable. She is still learning to trust people, so she’ll need someone who understands that trust takes time and is willing to let her come out of her shell at her own pace. Angel also requires a securely fenced yard where she can safely explore and enjoy time outdoors while she continues building confidence. With patience, consistency, and plenty of positive experiences, Angel has the potential to become a wonderful and loving companion. She is looking for someone who will give her the time she needs to feel safe and allow her sweet personality to shine. A required in-person meet and greet at our shelter is part of the adoption process to help ensure a good fit for Angel, any resident dogs, and her potential adopters. If you have the patience and love to help Angel continue coming out of her shell, she may be the sweet companion you've been waiting for! ------ Many NMDR dogs have had limited prior socialization and may need time, patience, and support as they adjust to home life. Skills such as house training, leash walking, and handling may require continued practice. Progress will vary by individual dog. Homes with older children are often a good fit, depending on temperament. To learn more about NMDR and our adoption process, please visit our website.

Story
- Bonded to Bella - Taco has Cushing's Disease Meet Taco – A Fun-Loving, Snuggly Companion with a Silly Side 🐾 Taco is an 8-year-old Maltese mix weighing 18.8 pounds (with just a few to lose), and he’s an all-around awesome, funny, and loving little guy ready to share his life with a lucky family—ideally alongside his sister. Taco has the perfect balance of playful and relaxed. He loves going for walks and short bursts of running, but he’s definitely not training for a marathon! He also enjoys playtime and soaking up the sunshine during a good sunbathing session. When the day winds down, Taco is more than happy to turn into a couch potato and snuggle up with his humans. This sweet boy is very people-oriented and loves to greet his favorite humans with kisses and his adorable little leg kicks. He prefers to be near his people but does just fine when left alone for a few hours. Taco already knows commands like sit, lay down, and come here—he’s a smart pup who enjoys being part of the action. Taco lives with other dogs and cats and does well with both. He can sometimes be a little protective of his person and may show some resource guarding, but this has improved significantly as he’s become more comfortable in his environment. On leash, Taco can occasionally be a bit reactive, but he corrects quickly and continues to make progress. When he gets overly excited, he may become a little ankle-nippy, so he would do best in a home without young children and with humans who are around more often than not to help guide him. With his loving personality, goofy charm, and affectionate nature, Taco is truly a special dog who will bring so much joy and laughter into his forever home. Could Taco (and his sister!) be the perfect addition to your family? ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Bennie is a 5-year-old, 8-pound Maltese with a sweet personality and plenty of playful energy! He may be a little shy when you first meet him, but once Bennie realizes he is safe and comfortable, his bouncy personality shines. Bennie is outgoing, playful, and does well with other dogs. He enjoys having canine friends around and is ready to find a home where he can continue coming out of his shell and showing off his fun-loving personality. Bennie is still working on his leash skills, so a secure, fenced-in yard is required while he continues learning and adjusting to his new surroundings. This will help keep him safe as he builds confidence with walking on leash. A meet-and-greet at the shelter is required to help ensure Bennie is a good fit for his potential family and any resident dogs. Luna is currently on a diet since she could stand to lose a pound or two. She does have a heart murmur and will be seeing the cardiologist prior to adoption. Story
This pup will be available to meet starting on 8/29 Meet Stackz — a happy, playful boy who is more than ready to leave his past behind and discover just how good life can be.    Stackz was found living in a cage in the back of a truck, covered in his own filth. It’s hard to imagine what his life looked like before he was rescued, but you certainly wouldn’t know it from meeting him. Despite everything, Stackz is an absolute sweetheart who seems to believe that every human he meets is simply a new friend he hasn’t gotten to love yet.   This energetic guy LOVES going for walks and has places to be! Stackz is a fast walker and can pull when he gets overly excited—especially if a squirrel makes the questionable decision to cross his path.  He can also be vocal when he sees other dogs on walks. Whether that’s excitement, frustration, or something else, his future family should be prepared to continue working with him on calm leash manners and introductions rather than assuming every bark means he wants to make a new canine bestie.   At home, though, Stackz has been living peacefully with cats! He’s even happy to share the bed with them, sleeping through the night snuggled up with his foster and his feline roommates.    And speaking of bedtime… Stackz has a very important nightly ritual: TOYS. This boy absolutely adores plushies and squeaky toys and apparently believes that if one toy belongs on the bed, ALL the toys belong on the bed. Expect to wake up surrounded by a small stuffed-animal collection.    Stackz is playful, energetic, excitable, affectionate, and always ready to be part of whatever his people are doing. He has a great appetite and isn’t a picky eater. He’s also doing well with potty habits, although he does sometimes try to mark indoors, so his new family will need to continue reinforcing good house manners.   After a beginning where he had so little, Stackz is thoroughly enjoying having walks to take, toys to squeak, cats to sleep beside, good food in his belly, and people who treat him with kindness.   Now he just needs the one thing he’s been missing: a family of his very own.    They were rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Stackz has tested positive for Heartworm. Treatment will be covered by the rescue at one of our partner vets. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  ##2824443##
