Meet Wonton! Wonton is a 5-year-old, approximately 14-pound mixed breed who appears to have some Shih Tzu, Maltese, Lhasa Apso, or Havanese in his family tree. This sweet little guy has excellent house manners and is fully potty trained—he hasn’t had a single accident so far. Wonton enjoys his walks and can be a bit of a speedy walker, but he’s easy to handle and enjoys getting out and about. His favorite place, though, is wherever his person is. Wonton is affectionate, loving, and happiest when curled up beside you or relaxing in your lap. He’s the kind of dog who forms a close bond with his people and simply wants to be part of your day. If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal companion who loves cuddles and companionship, Wonton may be the perfect match. Thank you for your interest in one of our Hero Babies! Before inquiring, we thought it was important to share a few of our policies. Your Current Pets - We do require that your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered. Adoptions - We do not have a shelter and are a foster-home based organization. We do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org/adopt. Once your application is approved it will be sent to the foster family that is currently caring for the dog. They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a home visit prior to adoption. Bernadette Peters is a 5-year-old, 9 lb Maltese mix with a gentle soul who is slowly learning to feel safe and loved. She can be shy at first and is still coming out of her shell, but with patience and kindness, her sweet personality truly begins to shine. Bernadette absolutely loves the company of other dogs and would thrive in a home with a confident canine companion to help her feel secure. She enjoys running around the yard, exploring, and playing with her dog friends. While she’s still unsure about toys, she does love her food and gets excited when her people are home. She also enjoys gentle affection, happily soaking up pets and giving sweet kisses in return. Because she previously lived outdoors, Bernadette is still learning house manners and will need a patient adopter committed to continuing her training. She is crate trained and will go into her crate for mealtime. She is also working on leash skills, but at this time she is not comfortable walking on a leash, so a securely fenced yard is REQUIRED. Bernadette does best in a calm, quiet environment. An adult-only home or one with older, gentle individuals would be ideal, as young children may be overwhelming for her. She is good with dogs of all sizes and also does well with cats. With time, love, and understanding, Bernadette will blossom into a devoted and affectionate companion. She’s ready to find a patient home where she can continue building confidence and finally feel safe forever.
