Story
This friend has just arrived because their owner could no longer keep them. While owners can provide some history on their pets, our medical and behavioral teams will still evaluate them. Dogs that have lived in homes previously typically have some training established, but we cannot guarantee that those behaviors will remain consistent in a new home environment. They are pending interactions with other animals at the shelter until they have been cleared by our vet. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and we will update their bio with more information as we learn. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Cashmere(Cash) is a 7 yo Maltese weighing 12 lbs that we rescued from a commercial breeding kennel.  Cash had to have her remaining teeth removed due to decay but has no trouble eating soft food. She has a great appetite and runs over when hears the refrigerator door opening. She goes potty outside, walks daily around the neighborhood on a leash, enjoys good soft food and exploring the yard. She has great energy when trying to catch squirrels in our yard although cannot figure out where they go and when it’s time to eat. She is good with every dog we meet and our pitbull. She is good in the crate overnight and I have left her for 4-5 hours during the day with no problem.  She knows “go potty”.  Her crate has also been dry overnight. She will also be happy to sleep in your bed with you all night. She knows come, time to eat, let’s go for a walk, and of course No. She will need another calm dog in the home to show her the ropes and build her confidence. I do have a fenced yard and that would be preferred as she loves it. But if no fence, she will need to be on a leash to be safe and go for a daily walk or two.  She is still shy and will need someone with patience and know that it takes time for them to trust you.  Mill dogs make the best pets ever who will bond with you forever.   Cashmere is now spayed, up to date with vaccines and microchipped. She tested negative for heartworm and has been started on monthly heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $250.00. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This is a courtesy posting. Please call 410-627-6563 for information on fostering or adopting Truman. At 11 pounds and 1 1/2 years old this sweet boy is in need of a soft place to land. Poor little Truman was found running scared through the streets of Baltimore City trying to survive. Kids were throwing cans and bricks at him. Although he is improving in his loving foster home, his previous life has left him somewhat fearful and he will require someone with previous dog experience and a lot of patience. He gains comfort from other dogs and will need a dog companion in his new home as well as a physically fenced yard. Can anyone help this little survivor?Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 29, 2026, 8:20 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Nino is one sweet little Maltipoo and has already won over his foster in only moments!    BACK STORY ON NINO; Nino had a rough start to life.  While he had a home, it is apparent that his human didn’t spend much quality time with him. He arrived at his foster home very stressed and afraid. He doesn’t seem to have been exposed to much of the world, but he is curious to explore new things with gentle encouragement. He has his own little (poodle) personality and likes to cuddle up and receive attention. His fur is as soft as velvet! He’ll cuddle next to you on the couch but is also content to lounge on the floor next to your feet. He gets along with other dogs but doesn’t really interact with them.  Nino is a good eater and likes just about everything, including cucumbers and cauliflower! He enjoys exploring and walks well on leash.  He is house trained and will go to the door (or whine) when he needs to go outside.  He is very food driven and also very smart, which makes him easy to train.  He wants to please and will do just about anything for treats! He sleeps well (sleeps on his bed on the floor) and doesn’t demand to get up early (lets you sleep in if you want!)   Due to his slow start in life, Nino is a little on the nervous side.  He needs more time with a human parent who will help show him the world and build his confidence.  Obedience training with his new human is a requirement in order to continue building his trust and confidence.  He enjoys his training sessions with his foster mom and may eventually also like to do other forms of training such as agility. Nino is crate trained but doesn’t require being confined to a crate when he is home alone. He doesn’t get into things he shouldn’t, so hurting himself or making messes should not be much of a concern.  He is also fine with being left alone. I think he enjoys the peace and quiet Nino will need a quiet home with a person experienced with the poodle breed or who has a calm demeanor.  He tends to be concerned when meeting new people, so a household that has lots of people coming and going is not a good fit.    This little guy has the potential to make someone a great companion, but no small children.  He is curious about cats but doesn’t chase them.     If you are interested in Nino, please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 4, 2026, 1:50 pm

Story
Crimson is being fostered in VA. Crimson is blind and has kidney disease. Crimson Update – April 1, 2026: Crimson has settled into his foster home, making friends with his foster parents and the four other blind dogs who live in the home. He now knows all about evening sofatime with his foster mom and the other pups, and, after a belly and head rub, takes a nap. He is doing a great job learning to go up and down the two steps from the deck into the yard and then back into the house again. And, with the warmer weather, he likes to take a quick roll in the grass when he goes out to do his business. Crimson does have dry eye now, so is on daily Optimmune (eye ointment). He does a very good job at medication time. For more information about this sweet boy, read what his foster home wrote about him in February 2026. See below. Crimson is a friendly little guy who loves belly rubs! If you would like to know more about this special pup, read on! Crimson is from Florida. His family could no longer care for him and so they turned him over to the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance. He traveled to his Virginia BDRA foster home in January 2026 and made friends all along the way. Crimson has settled into his foster home quite well! There are four other blind dogs in the home and Crimson gets along just fine with each of them. He is happy to share a bed and doesn’t mind if a dog bumps into him. He ignores the family cat. At night, he settles easily into his bed and sleeps through the night. He is housetrained – not a single accident yet! He has a deep bark and, when he first arrived, he barked fairly often but now that he is learning the routine, he barks only occasionally (usually when anticipating a meal!). As mentioned, he loves belly rubs and he enjoys head rubs too. He also likes toys. Crimson is blind, diagnosed with SARDS several years ago. SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) is a condition that causes rapid and irreversible blindness due to changes within the retina. In addition, he arrived at his foster home with ear infections that are in the process of being treated. He hears well though and he doesn’t let his blindness bother him at all. His eyes are currently healthy although he does have some clear discharge at times. Crimson also has been diagnosed with kidney disease/kidney failure along with high blood pressure. He is on a prescription kidney diet (Purina) and also on Benazepril twice a day. We don’t know all the details about Crimson’s medical history before he arrived at his foster home and – as is true with any rescue dog – we can’t predict what the future holds for his health. Anyone interested in adopting Crimson should first speak with their vet about canine kidney disease so there is an understanding of this disease, its progression, and how it is treated. Crimson has not spent time with children and, although he is such a nice dog, he should be adopted into a home with older children or adults only. And he should always be supervised when he is with young children, as all dogs should be. If you think you can provide this sweet, gentle dog the wonderful forever home he deserves, complete an application today! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
