Story
Coconut (Coco)is a 8 yo Maltese weighing 8 lbs that we rescued from a commercial breeding kennel.  Coco had to have her remaining teeth removed due to decay but has no trouble eating soft food. She has a great appetite and runs over when hears the refrigerator door opening. She goes potty outside, walks daily around the neighborhood on a leash, enjoys good soft food and exploring the yard. She has great energy and adorable when does her zoomies. She is good with every dog we meet and our pitbull. She is good in the crate overnight and I have left her for 4-5 hours during the day with no problem.  She knows “go potty”.  Her crate has also been dry overnight. She will also be happy to sleep in your bed with you all night. She knows come, time to eat, let’s go for a walk, and of course No. She will need another calm dog in the home to show her the ropes and build her confidence. I do have a fenced yard and that would be preferred as she loves it. But if no fence, she will need to be on a leash to be safe and loves a regular daily walk or two. She is still shy and will need someone with patience and know that it takes time for them to trust you.  Mill dogs make the best pets ever who will bond with you forever. If looking for 2 dogs as you don’t have another dog in the home, Cashmere and Coconut would be happy to go together. Coconut is now spayed, up to date with vaccines and microchipped. She tested negative for heartworm and has been started on monthly heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $250.00. If interested in adopting Coconut,  please visit our website www.lharinc.org go to Adopt and complete the dog adoption application. Story
Noel is a sweet, super playful 2-year-old girl who loves walks, playing with other dogs, and bananas (her favorite 🍌). She has a fun, happy personality and really shines when she’s active or spending time outdoors. She’d do best in a home with other small dogs to play with and learn from. Noel is very loving and people-focused—she bonds closely with her person and loves being nearby. Noel is still building confidence with alone time and will need a patient adopter who’s committed to giving her structure, routine, and continued training. She can get overwhelmed when left alone right now, but she’s already making progress and will keep improving with consistency. Noel is potty trained on a regular schedule and does best with frequent opportunities to go outside. With the right home and guidance, Noel is going to be an incredibly loyal companion who brings so much love and energy into her forever home. 💛 Kennel License 18972 https://www.familiarhearts.org/adoptable-pets

Story
This friend has just arrived because their owner could no longer keep them. While owners can provide some history on their pets, our medical and behavioral teams will still evaluate them. Dogs that have lived in homes previously typically have some training established, but we cannot guarantee that those behaviors will remain consistent in a new home environment. They are pending interactions with other animals at the shelter until they have been cleared by our vet. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and we will update their bio with more information as we learn. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Crimson is being fostered in VA. Crimson is blind and has kidney disease. Crimson Update – April 1, 2026: Crimson has settled into his foster home, making friends with his foster parents and the four other blind dogs who live in the home. He now knows all about evening sofatime with his foster mom and the other pups, and, after a belly and head rub, takes a nap. He is doing a great job learning to go up and down the two steps from the deck into the yard and then back into the house again. And, with the warmer weather, he likes to take a quick roll in the grass when he goes out to do his business. Crimson does have dry eye now, so is on daily Optimmune (eye ointment). He does a very good job at medication time. For more information about this sweet boy, read what his foster home wrote about him in February 2026. See below. Crimson is a friendly little guy who loves belly rubs! If you would like to know more about this special pup, read on! Crimson is from Florida. His family could no longer care for him and so they turned him over to the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance. He traveled to his Virginia BDRA foster home in January 2026 and made friends all along the way. Crimson has settled into his foster home quite well! There are four other blind dogs in the home and Crimson gets along just fine with each of them. He is happy to share a bed and doesn’t mind if a dog bumps into him. He ignores the family cat. At night, he settles easily into his bed and sleeps through the night. He is housetrained – not a single accident yet! He has a deep bark and, when he first arrived, he barked fairly often but now that he is learning the routine, he barks only occasionally (usually when anticipating a meal!). As mentioned, he loves belly rubs and he enjoys head rubs too. He also likes toys. Crimson is blind, diagnosed with SARDS several years ago. SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) is a condition that causes rapid and irreversible blindness due to changes within the retina. In addition, he arrived at his foster home with ear infections that are in the process of being treated. He hears well though and he doesn’t let his blindness bother him at all. His eyes are currently healthy although he does have some clear discharge at times. Crimson also has been diagnosed with kidney disease/kidney failure along with high blood pressure. He is on a prescription kidney diet (Purina) and also on Benazepril twice a day. We don’t know all the details about Crimson’s medical history before he arrived at his foster home and – as is true with any rescue dog – we can’t predict what the future holds for his health. Anyone interested in adopting Crimson should first speak with their vet about canine kidney disease so there is an understanding of this disease, its progression, and how it is treated. Crimson has not spent time with children and, although he is such a nice dog, he should be adopted into a home with older children or adults only. And he should always be supervised when he is with young children, as all dogs should be. If you think you can provide this sweet, gentle dog the wonderful forever home he deserves, complete an application today! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Let me re-introduce myself. I’m Everest, and I may look familiar to you. See, I was already adopted once, but I was returned to my foster mom for being too noisy in the crate. She told me not to worry, sometimes we don’t get it right the first time and that just means someone extra special is waiting for me. Could that special person be you?  Everest is a 5-year-old Bichon who loves nothing more than to be involved in your day. Whether that’s lounging on the couch watching movies, tanning in the backyard, going for a walk, or even a run! He’s a happy go lucky guy who needs a little time to adjust and make himself comfortable in new environments.  Everest is not a huge fan of the crate; however, he has worked really hard to get used to it and now settles fairly quickly. For bedtime, he prefers a comfy dog bed or the couch. He’s got quite the schedule for himself, preferring to hit the sack early and rise with the sun. Who could think of a better companion to go with your morning coffee?  Everest does well with other dogs, and people of all ages, including children. An ideal home would be one that has a playmate, canine or human, he is not picky. He would do best in a family that has someone home often. He is neutered, up to date on shots and preventatives, as well as microchipped. A fence is not required, but he sure would love the freedom to run that a fence provides. He is also potty trained with regular potty breaks, although regression is common in new environments. Due to his coat, Everest would require periodic grooming, which he does well with. Everest is being fostered in Berks County, PA and all interested adopters would need to be willing to travel there for a meet & greet.  If your interested please apply at www.zoeshouserescue.com/adopt Kennel License #9117  Reading PA 19608

Story
Hi, my name is Winter and I am patiently waiting to find my forever family. I am the cutest little 9 lb, 4-year-old Bichon, rescued from a commercial breeder. My ideal home includes: 🪄 A fenced in yard, that goes all the way to the ground. I am a little magician, and I figured out how to get under my foster families’ fence, so they needed to secure it all the way to the ground. When I am on a leash, I am nervous and I try to chew it off. I also like my own space when I am doing my “business.” 🏘️ A family who will let me have free reign of the house or will let me chill in a sectioned off area of the house because I HATE the crate. I will fight with the crate until my little nose is bloody to try to get out. When my foster family is at work, I am not destructive at all and you can find me chilling on the couch with the other dogs or on my bed, napping peacefully. At night I sleep soundly all night on a big pillow next to my foster parents’ bed. 🐶 Another low to medium energy, cool, calm, and confident dog to show me the ropes. I live with 2 big dogs now and I follow their potty time lead and their time-to-settle-down for-the-night lead. 👧 At least 1 female member of my pack. I am ok having a male in the house and am learning to trust that men are safe and loving too. 😍 A low to medium energy household with people who LOVE to snuggle and who want a lap dog. I had an XRAY that showed some degenerative changes in my right hip, it doesn’t seem to bother me though, but I am more of a snuggle bug, than walking buddy. 🥩 A person who will soften my food. I had a few teeth pulled, so I need a softer diet. If you are looking for a loyal companion and the cutest little button of a dog, I am your girl. I am being fostered in Western Berks County, PA. www.zoeshouserescue.com Zoe’s House Rescue Kennel License 9117 Sinking Spring, PA 19608

Story
Birdie is a sweet and gentle Bichon who spent the first three years of her life as a breeding mom. Birdie is three years old and weighs 8 pounds. She loves other dogs and is very happy with her foster sisters. She will do best with other dogs in the home to help her gain her confidence and show her the ropes. Birdie is very nervous around her human friends, but she is gaining confidence with each day. She would do best in a quiet home or a home with older children who will give her space and time to learn to trust her family. Birdie is remarkably well house trained. She gets very nervous on a leash and will require a fenced in yard. Birdie loves the safety and comfort of her crate, which she voluntarily goes in and out of throughout the day. She also loves to snuggle up with her foster sisters. Birdie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and ready to find her forever home where she can enjoy the comfort, warmth and safety of a forever home.
