The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.    The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there! Pamela is a playful, affectionate girl with a heart full of love and energy to share. She is working on learning commands and becoming a very well behaved young pup.  She is excellent in her crate trained and leash also. At nine years old, he deserves nothing more than a peaceful, comfortable home where he can finally experience the love, security, and companionship every dog deserves. Beanie has no teeth, so he will need a family who understands his needs and can provide an appropriate soft diet. Having no teeth does not mean he has any less love to give, and we hope someone will see beyond his age and recognize what a special little companion he could be. Meet Homil!   Age: 6 years Sex: Neutered male Breed: Maltese Colour: Cream Weight: 6.2 kg Height: 33 cm at the shoulder   Rescue Story Homil was rescued from an animal-hoarding situation where many dogs were living together without adequate care. Now safe and cared for, Homil is ready to find a loving forever family.   With People Homil is a friendly, affectionate boy who enjoys meeting people—even strangers! He approaches them, rubs against them, and happily accepts pets. He is comfortable being picked up and held and may even show his belly to someone he has just met.   With Other Dogs Homil prefers human company to playing with other dogs. He is generally friendly with dogs his size or smaller and is patient even when they pester him.   With Cats His reaction to cats has not yet been observed. A cat test can be arranged.   Energy & Walks Homil has a moderate energy level. He enjoys outdoor activities and settles down quietly afterward. He has plenty of walking experience, follows his person well, and walks without pulling on the leash.   Life at Home • He has not shown food guarding toward people or other dogs. • He may bark when separated from people. His family should be prepared for possible separation anxiety and help him gradually become comfortable spending time alone. • In a kennel, he alternates between being quiet and vocalizing. He will need patience and support rather than an expectation that he is already crate trained. • He currently uses both indoor and outdoor potty areas.
