Story
Happy is a 5-year-old, 19-pound Maltipoo with a gentle soul who loves walks, sunshine, and quiet afternoons. In Dec. 2024, Happy suffered a disc slip that temporarily paralyzed his back legs, but he made a great recovery. He lost some strength, but can still walk, run, and go potty as normal. Happy does experience anxiety and needs time to warm up to new people. He has shown fear-based behaviors and has bitten when feeling threatened. Because of this, he needs an experienced, patient adopter and a calm home, ideally without small children or frequent visitors. He would thrive with someone who understands anxious dogs and can provide structure, security, and gentle guidance. As we prepare to welcome a new family member, we are looking for a loving home where Happy can continue to thrive. If you think you are the right fit, we would love to hear from you.

Story
Recently, one of our volunteers returned a call from a distressed individual who spoke only Vietnamese and needed to surrender a dog. With the help of another volunteer translating, it quickly became clear the situation was urgent. The small Maltipoo, now named Matty, was brought to AALOC and immediately rushed to the veterinarian for care. Terrified and severely neglected, poor Matty appeared to have gone his entire life without proper grooming. His fur had become so painfully matted and compacted that he had to be sedated while a veterinary groomer carefully shaved away the thick layers of tangled fur covering his tiny body. Beneath the painful matting was a frightened little dog who had clearly endured long-term neglect. But despite everything he had been through, Matty’s gentle and loving spirit quickly began to shine through. Once safe at AALOC, Matty slowly learned that kind hands could be trusted. Today, this sweet little survivor happily enjoys walks with our volunteers and greets every person he meets with tail wags, kisses, and endless affection. His bright eyes and joyful smile are a beautiful reminder of how resilient animals can be when finally shown love and compassion. Matty is now healthy, safe, and ready to begin the next chapter of his life with a forever family who will cherish him the way he always deserved. Once your application is reviewed and approved, we will contact you to make an appointment to visit us at AALOC to meet Matty and get to know him a bit. Adoption donation includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, and a microchip. Applications require a veterinary reference and home visit (in Orange County, CA). Female mini-poodle mix needs new home. She is very friendly, affectionate, playful, and knows a few tricks plus several commands. She likes people, and she especially likes men. She needs a Dad to be a big part of her life. The ideal owner would be active, work from home, have a fenced yard with a doggie door, and possibly another small dog or a family. She’s up to date on her vaccines, is chipped and spayed, and had her teeth cleaned every other year. I was told this dog was 4 years old when I adopted her. In fact, she was barely a year old. She is 5 years old now. Because I live in Laguna Woods, I can no longer provide the safety and exercise she needs—and she is truly the happiest with a man in her life. I love her dearly, but I can no longer provide the life she deserves. All her belongings go with her.
