Story

Meet Elfee, a sweet 15 lb, 8-year-old Maltipoo who’s ready for a fresh start. Elfee was found as a stray in Watts, CA, with no collar, tag, or microchip. He had puncture wounds on his back, likely from being attacked by a coyote or another dog. A Good Samaritan took him in and searched for his family, but no one ever came forward. After his stray hold was complete, Shelter Hope welcomed Elfee into our care to help him find the loving home he truly deserves. When Elfee first arrived, he was pretty matted and covered in dirt. After a much-needed bath and lots of TLC in foster care, he’s feeling comfortable, clean, and so much happier. Despite everything he’s been through, Elfee has remained incredibly sweet. He’s a gentle, easygoing little guy who lights up for attention and affection. Happy, soulful, and full of charm, Elfee loves giving kisses and snuggling close to his person. He’s also curious and adventurous, enjoying time exploring the world around him. Elfee loves meeting new people and does great with kids and other dogs. At a recent vet visit, Elfee was diagnosed with a grade 6 heart murmur, but he takes it like a champ! Neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, Elfee is ready to find his forever home. Meet Harvey, Harvey is a Pug-Chihuahua-Maltese Mix and as cute as can be. Are you ready to welcome a bundle of joy into your life? Look no further than Harvey, a delightful 1 year old Pug-Chihuahua-Maltese mix! This little guy is the perfect blend of playful energy and cuddly sweetness. Harvey is a curious and adventurous pup who loves to explore his surroundings. He’s also incredibly affectionate and enjoys snuggling up for a nap after a fun play session. He can sometimes be fearful and protective in new situations but is gaining more and more confidence as he grows up. Harvey is a quick learner. He’s eager to please and responds well to positive reinforcement. He gets along well with other dogs and has not been tested with cats but we think he would be fine. Harvey would prefer a home with another playful dog and with someone who is home a lot to help him grow into the best adult dog that he can be. We do suggest that he only go to a home with kids over the age of 8 as he does not do well in a very busy or loud environment. Daisy is a lovely almost two year old Maltipoo who was dumped at a Los Angeles city animal shelter by her owner with horribly matted and damaged fur and encrusted eyes, fearful and scared and snapping to defend herself and barking to appear strong. She is also very underweight underneath all that matted fur. We can only imagine what she must have been through. Currently Daisy is being assessed and treated by the vet and will be examined, get a fecal, urinalysis, blood test, be clipped and groomed and cleaned and her eyes medicated until they heal. She will also be handled and rehabilitated so she won't be afraid anymore and try to bite to defend herself. New photos coming soon. Simmba has been waiting for his forever home for over a year now at Shelter Hope. Simmba is a 3 y/o and 13 lb Poodle mix who was surrendered the day after Christmas 2024. Before that, he lived only outdoors and received less attention as his family’s children grew older. Despite this, Simmba has a huge heart and blossoms with patience, consistency, and kindness. Simmba loves fetch, squeaky toys, and zooming or rolling through the grass, as well as soaking up the sun on his favorite bench. Indoors, he keeps his lamby toy close, happily offers enthusiastic face kisses, and adores cuddles, belly rubs, and simply being near his people. He also respects boundaries and will retreat to his bed or “sanctuary” when asked. His foster tells us he seems fully potty trained, food-motivated, and already knows the “sit” command. Simmba can be protective and sometimes needs help navigating his big feelings (which is why he’s often called a “project dog”) but he bonds deeply and is incredibly loyal once trust is built. He does have some skin allergies, possibly food-related, and currently wears a cone to prevent licking, though it doesn’t slow down his playful, quirky personality. He does best in a calm, low-chaos environment, where he can grow more confident and relaxed. His foster is actively socializing him with new people and other dogs, and he’s making excellent progress. With his fun-loving nature, Simmba could do well as an only dog or with another small, friendly, playful female dog as a companion. What he truly needs is a home without kids who is willing to give him the time and understanding he’s waited so long for. Simmba has so much love to give.
