Rolo is a gentle soul with big brown eyes and an even bigger heart. He had a rough start after being found alone and abandoned in the desert, but he has never given up on people and is looking for someone out there just for him. Rolo is about 3 years old, a mixed breed MALTIPOO with a soft coat and a tail that wags like a windmill when he is happy (which is often). He loves slow walks, belly rubs, and curling up beside you for quiet moments. Rolo is fully vetted, neutered, house-trained and gets along well with other dogs. Give him a lot of love, and Rolo will become your most loyal companion. If you have a little extra room in your heart and your home, Rolo would love to meet you. Adoption fee is $425 and since he is fully vetted, neutered, up-to-date on all shots, microchipped, and dog door trained - all he needs is love food and a warm bed! Meet Elfee, a sweet 13 lb, 8-year-old Maltipoo who is ready for a fresh start. Sadly, Elfee spent three days in a lady’s backyard after being attacked on the streets of Watts. He had no collar or tag. A good Samaritan took him in and searched for his owner, but no one came forward. Shelter Hope heard his story and, after his stray hold was complete, welcomed him into our care to help him find the loving home he truly deserves. Despite everything he’s been through, Elfee is a super sweet, easygoing gentle guy who lights up whenever he gets attention. He’s very dirty from his ordeal and has some puncture wounds on his back, likely from a coyote or another dog. At his recent vet check, they discovered he has a grade 6 heart murmur, but it doesn’t stop him from enjoying cuddles, gentle play, and affection. I acquired Rambo from a family friend that was no longer able to house him after the fires. I’m unsure his age but he’s a great dog and overall very loving. He loves to play and is always happy. He needs to have constant access to an area where he can go pee and poop as he goes frequently. I would love to keep him but due to my busy schedule it’s not possible. Rambo is very quiet and barely barks unless he senses someone approaching the house door that he doesn’t recognize. Willing to send more pictures if needed and set up a time to meet.

Meet Harvey, Harvey is a Pug-Chihuahua-Maltese Mix and as cute as can be. Are you ready to welcome a bundle of joy into your life? Look no further than Harvey, a delightful 6 month-old Pug-Chihuahua-Maltese mix! This little guy is the perfect blend of playful energy and cuddly sweetness. Harvey is a curious and adventurous pup who loves to explore his surroundings. He’s also incredibly affectionate and enjoys snuggling up for a nap after a fun play session. He can sometimes be protective in new situations but is gaining more and more confidence as he grows up. Harvey is a quick learner. He’s eager to please and responds well to positive reinforcement. He gets along well with other dogs and has not been tested with cats but we think he would be fine. Harvey would prefer a home with another playful dog and with someone who is home a lot to help him grow into the best adult dog that he can be. We do suggest that he only go to a home with kids over the age of 8 as he does not do well in a very busy or loud environment. Milo was recently surrendered. We were told that the landlord said he had to go because they were not picking up his poop in the yard. We never really know what’s true. He is extremely loyal and affectionate ONCE he is given a bit of time to acclimate. He NEEDS people to take it slow. This is why we are saying “no kids” - they might not read his body language and push affection on him too quickly. He’s house and crate trained. No issues with sharing toys & food with other dogs. Not interested in cats so could happily coexist.

Meet Bootz! She’s an adorable and sweet 3-month-old, 4 lb Maltese/Terrier mix. Bootz comes from Bakersfield. Her mama hadn’t been spayed and ended up having five puppies from several litters—so one dog became six. Feeling overwhelmed, her previous owner decided to surrender the entire little family. The city shelter in Bakersfield is so overcrowded and stretched beyond its limits, and thousands of unwanted dogs are euthanized each year simply because there isn’t enough space. Stories like Bootz’s are why spaying and neutering pets is so important and why we rescue hundreds of dogs from Bakersfield every year. Despite her rough start, Bootz is full of sunshine. James Bone 007 is on a mission, not to save the world, but to find his forever home! This dashing 9-year-old, 13 lb Maltese-Pom mix was found wandering the streets of Compton after an ICE raid, likely separated from his owner. With no microchip and no way to trace his family, James spent a month in foster care while neighbors searched for his owner. Then, he was brought to us at Shelter Hope in the hopes of finding him a wonderful new home. Since moving in with his foster family, James has proven himself to be a true gentleman. His foster says he seems house-trained (not a single accident!) and will politely sniff at the door when he needs to go out. He walks beautifully on a leash, enjoys leisurely strolls in the park, and, like any alert little secret agent, keeps an eye on the world around him, sometimes barking at other dogs or out the window. James is a wonderful companion with excellent manners. He adores children, warms up easily to adults, and loves being near his humans, though he’s also independent enough to settle quietly on his own. He enjoys snuggles and pets but isn’t overly clingy, and he’ll happily follow you from room to room, waiting patiently by your side. Though his foster noticed that his hearing may not be the best, James doesn’t let it slow him down one bit. He’s thriving, happy, and ready to share his sweet, steady presence with a family who will love him.
