Story
Meet Sam! Sam is a very handsome pup, estimated at about 3 years old. He’s thought to be a Mastiff Mix, but, rather small for the breed. Sadly, Sam found himself at an overcrowded noisy animal control facility down south. He deserves a forever home and family of his own, and we want to help him get there!! This precious pup absolutely loves people and is good with older kids who are respectful of dogs. We expect he is good with lower energy dogs. Dogs who are too active might scare him and cause him to react. Sam absolutely loves belly rubs, and treats too! He's a little rough around the edges in terms of training but clearly is eager to learn. Sam is in overall good physical shape however he does have some vision issues causing him to sometimes miss things coming his way….this is why we expect he’d be scared by higher energy dogs, and high-activity youngsters. Sam is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventative. We would still like to get Sam to an eye specialist for a comprehensive examination of his eyes/vision. If you’d like to add Sam to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.

Story
Oh, Leona....where do we start? It is evident that this poor girl was loved at one point in her short life. She knows how to sit on command, give paw, and does zoomies when she's excited. We're not sure where things went wrong for her, but she's with us now and is learning to trust again. She's on the petite side and is so funny when she plays. She, unfortunately, is not a fan of other dogs so she'll need to be the only one in the home. Email us at bombshellbullies@hotmail.com to see if Leona would be a good match for you!

Story
Millie is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you're a match! Scroll through her pictures to see her cute videos! Meet Millie, our big little hippie chick! Millie is a 2-year-old Mastiff mix who may be on the smaller side (for an XL breed!), but she has a heart big enough to fill a room. Her beautiful salt-and-peppery muzzle might have you guessing that she’s an older girl, but she’s just two! And that adorable nubbin tail? It may be short, but Millie wags it with such enthusiasm that her whole booty shakes. You’d think that little tail weighed 100 pounds! Millie is one of the gentlest, sweetest girls you could ever hope to meet. She enjoys playing with other dogs and absolutely loves people. She’s happiest when she’s close to a human, soaking up affection and cuddling. And if you’re willing to give belly rubs, Millie will be your new best friend. Millie wound up at Chicago Animal Care and Control as an owner surrender when her family no longer had the resources to care for her. When we first saw her in her kennel, she was clearly sad and overwhelmed. She didn’t get up to greet us, but even then, her little nubbin tail was wagging. When we returned a few days later, Millie easily got up and happily headed out for a walk with us. It was wonderful to see her starting to come out of her shell. Once she has a little time and kindness, this sweet girl is ready to show you just how lovely she is. Millie's foster mom says great things about her: Millie is housebroken, and was left to free roam the apartment for 6 hours and did not get into any trouble! Her foster mom writes, "Millie is a 70+ -pound cuddle bug who firmly believes she is a lap dog. No matter how little room you have on a piece of furniture she will happily squeeze in beside you and settle down for some quality snuggle time. She is gentle and calm and is very happy playing with her toys while you're at work. But, be ready for a great guard dog because Millie can hear a pin drop, and her echoing bark will let them know that the house is open for friends, but only if she approves them first!" Millie is all about good vibes, gentle affection, and love. She’s an easygoing, happy soul who would love nothing more than a cozy home, a loving family, and plenty of cuddles and belly rubs. If you’re looking for a sweet, mellow companion with a giant heart, a tiny tail, and the cutest booty wiggle around, Millie is definitely your girl. Millie’s adoption fee has been generously sponsored by The Rosenthal Family Foundation This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

Zane a very sweet boy who is still learning that people, and the shelter, aren’t so scary after all. Story
Riff - Male Mastiff/Terrier Mix (Breed and size at full growth are best guess only) Date of Birth 8/21/26 Meet Riff! 🐶💙 Riff and his siblings had a rough start in life when they were brought to an Alabama shelter in a box without their mom. But this sweet boy is ready to find his happily ever after! Riff is a laid-back, cuddly guy who loves human attention and being close to his people. He gets along  with young children and other dogs. At bedtime, he quietly snuggles up and sleeps with his brother in their playpen like a good little boy. 💤 He’s also working on potty training and doing well! For puppies this young they will need someone home most of the day (not to be left more then 2-3 hours per day) due to potty training. All of them are doing very well being let out every 2 hours.  Riff is a sweet, easygoing puppy who would love a family to call his own. Could you be his forever home? ❤️ WE DO NOT DO OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS Thank you for considering the adoption of one of our rescue dogs. We are committed to finding our rescues the perfect home. Together we can make a difference in the life of a dog. The adoption process should be a fun and exciting time for families and dogs. Our goal is to place our babies in forever homes. The potential adopter needs to be dedicated to their care and training for life. Understand that sharing your life with a dog can be a commitment of 15+ years. This would include feeding, exercise, training, vetting, and providing a loving home. Ask yourself, "Am I ready for this type of commitment?" If you are ready, we are here to help. We do have some requirements to help us find the perfect placement of our babies. WE ARE A FOSTER BASED RESCUE ONLY. WE DO NOT HAVE A PHYSICAL BUILDING 1. Apply online at https://www.foreverhomedogrescueil.org We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family (including other dogs) to approve an adoption. This will allow others the opportunity to adopt the dog. 2. Adopters MUST be 25 + years old. Information on all adults/members living in the home is required We REQUIRE you to provide proof and vet reference that all current and past pets have been kept up to date on all routine medical. 3.
