Story
Puddle is as easy as they come. She's a super snuggler and loves her people. She loves taking walks and is super chill, no pulling and nothing triggers this gal. She casually walks past skate boarders, bikers, dogs, squirrels and other distractions. She's crate and potty trained. She complains just a bit when crated as the foster family leaves during the day, but then settles in. At night she's a sound sleeper in a dog bed next to the foster parents. They are working on "off, cause she loves to jump up for some kisses. She has a little resource guarding with the family dog over affection from people, some pieces of food on the floor and a few toys. All of this is managed and toy time is only in the crate for Puddles. If you're looking for a not so small, gentle gal, apply to adopt Puddles..

Story
Sandy is only a puppy but already has she had to go through too much! She was hit by a car, causing painful injuries. Her family did not want her after her medical emergency and surrendered her to our center. This sweet girl is hurting in more ways than one right now. We’re working on Sandy’s recovery, but we would love it even more if she could be healing up in a loving home soon. She is very friendly and adorable.

Story
** Zeus is available for foster or adoption! Email applications@chicagocaninerescue.org to set up a meet + greet! **When he first arrived at CCR, we knew Zeus was a big boy with an even bigger heart! In spite of his bad luck, it was clear to us that he wanted nothing more than to have a friend (and maybe a stuffed animal or two!) by his side. He eventually got his wish and was adopted by a young couple, and for the next several months we had hoped Zeus was thriving in his new home. Unfortunately, however, Zeus was returned to us in December of 2022, just four months after his initial adoption, and he's had a difficult time adjusting to life in the shelter ever since. Zeus struggles with severe reactivity to other dogs, and weighing in at 93lbs he turned out to be too much to handle for his adopters at the time. All of this being said, Zeus is probably the living embodiment of a "gentle giant". Zeus is one of the friendliest and most affectionate dogs to have graced us at CCR, he absolutely adores people and the only thing he may love more is all the stuffed animals he keeps with him wherever he goes! At just over 2 years old he still has plenty of energy to burn. He loves playing tug of war and keep-away with the staff, and he's known to enjoy a game of fetch if the price is right! Zeus is well past the puppy/teenage stage of needing constant high energy outlets and is perfectly content exploring the outdoors on his own (as long as you're nearby) or cozying up on the couch to watch a movie. He truly is a well-rounded guy who just wants a pal to keep him company!Due to his size and on-leash reactivity- we suggest that Zeus be the only animal in the home and only go into a house with adults or children over the age of 15.** Submit your foster or adoption application at ChicagoCanineRescue.org! **Zeus' annual care has been generously donated by his guardian angel - Dave S.

Story
Initially we took MJ in as a sitter while his owner was out of town. The owner never came back so we’ve had him here since. MJ is the perfect ideal doggo he is a sweet gentle boy. He Loves to be around or near people. MJ is great with other pets in the home. He will greet you at the door with a gift every time. (His blanket or any toy of his he can find) very intelligent and respectful. His blanket gets torn with time in which would need replacing, he just likes to sleep with a blanky any blanky will do. He’s around 8 years old.

Bailey Age: 2 years Gender: Female Breed: Mastiff mix Weight: 100lbs Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: Yes Dog friendly: No Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Unknown Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Medium, can and will find things she can destroy if not watched or exercised regularly. Location: Fostered in Chicago, Illinois. No out of state applicants, please. Bailey came to us as a skinny, terrified, stray dog that would have likely been euthanized at animal control. Her finder spent days gaining her trust to get her off the streets, and offered to foster her. Bailey has blossomed since first being found. She loves to be outside. Very protective of her people. Loves to roll in the grass. Sweetie pie. Loves to eat. Enjoys stealing wet cat food. Not a fan of other dogs. Still working on her walking calm when others are too close for her comfort but she’s a protective breed and watches over her foster mom. She doesn’t care for bike riders. Bailey is a sweetie pie that thinks she's a small lap dog. She's happy just to be with you. She loves long walks and playing outside but if you just want to stay inside and watch a movie she's content to put her big head on your lap and watch the movie with you. Bailey would do best in a quiet home with adults only. If you’re interested in meeting Bailey, please fill out an application at the link below. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog

Story
Mojo Age: ~1 year Gender: Male Breed: Bullmastiff/Boxer mix   Weight: 82lbs Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: Yes Dog friendly: Yes, with proper introductions  Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Yes, a better match for kids 8+ in the home Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative  Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Moderate Mojo is being fostered in Chicago.  Mojo is a big ol’ puppy, in all the best ways. He’s got that “Gentle Giant” thing down pat, with some added spunk and a whole lot of comedy. He is the perfect mix of couch potato and world class parkour athlete, and has been an absolute pleasure to live with. If you’ve never seen a 100 pound dog with the zoomies, you are in for a treat! It’s hilarious.  Mojo loves to be close to you, and is a champion snuggler, but isn’t a total Velcro dog, and he self-entertains quite well. He has picked up potty training quickly and hasn’t shown a strong inclination to chew on inappropriate items. He has a big love for pulling the stuffing out of plush toys, so I can’t promise he wouldn’t do the same with a fluffy dog bed or throw pillow if left unsupervised with them, though he has been fine with the bed in his crate.  Mojo is a total ham. He makes us laugh constantly. His tail never stops wagging, and he’s often sporting his signature grin. He loves to soak up the sunshine and roll in the grass. He’s super food motivated, and playing tug is his #1 thing in the world. Mojo has received training on basic obedience and house manners. He is respectful of doorways and doesn’t dash through them. He knows the cues sit, down, come, with me, leave it, drop it, wait, find it, get it, touch, off, spin, kennel, and place. He has great engagement, learns quickly, and loves to train. He is calm and quiet in his crate and goes in easily. He is happy sleeping in his crate or curled up at your feet in bed.  Mojo has integrated very well with the cats and older children in his foster home. He is working through some normal adolescent impulse control stuff, and learning to tolerate frustration a little better. Right now, his biggest challenge is being restricted by a leash. He likely didn’t have any experience walking on a leash in his previous home, so it’s a new skill for him. He isn’t really a puller, but wants to be able to run up to every dog and person he sees, and gets pretty frustrated when he can’t. He needs a bit more practice with walking beside his handler, instead of weaving back and forth in front of them. We are continuing to work on this, and are happy to provide an adopter with support to keep him on the right track.  Mojo’s ideal home would be with a family who is committed to continuing his training through positive reinforcement methods. He is a very large, strong, athletic dog, and will need regular exercise and enrichment. With adopters committed to providing for his needs, he could easily thrive in an apartment, but he wouldn’t turn down a house with a yard to romp in! He may do well with another medium to large dog in the home. He seems to have a preference for female dogs, but has also played well with some males. If you have a dog, we will arrange meet and greets to ensure they will be a good match. He does very well with children, but due simply to his size and adolescent antics, I wouldn’t recommend him for a home with children under age 8.  If you’re interested in meeting Mojo, please fill out an application at the link below. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog

Story
HI! My name is Yrene (pronounced Irene), and I am 2-3 years old! Funny story about my history of names: when I first came into animal control, they thought I was a boy because I was so scared that I wouldn't stand up, and named me Waylon. Waylon is actually a pretty cool name, but so is Yrene! My foster mom was looking for a boy dog to foster, but once she met me and saw how sweet (and skinny) I was, she couldn’t say no. I was weak and shut down when they found me, but I’ve blossomed into a couch cuddling, silly, and loving girl. The things I love most are food, toys and snuggling. Loving food makes me treat motivated and easy to train, too. I’m a pro at kenneling up, and walking on leash. I won't pull you, or bark at other dogs. My foster mom actually really enjoys taking me on walks because she says it is such a peaceful experience having me with her. I'm not overly needy for affection, but do love my people that I bond too. Other people are cool too, but I may be shy with them. But, its okay to be shy! Imagine if our world was full of only extroverts. I love cuddling with my foster mom and pretending I’m a small lap dog. I currently live with other big dogs and a cat, and especially love being around my dog foster brother. My dream home has a backyard to romp around in, followed by a comfy spot inside to take a long LONG nap. One of my favorite activities is to take all my toys out of the toy bucket to pick which one to play with for the day and then carry it outside and forget about it. My foster mom doesn't mind, and is just so happy to see me happy. Maybe someone can train me to put all my toys back too! My foster mom loves me, and I love her, too. But, I'd really love a person or family of my own, and she'd love to keep saving dogs to foster. I'm low maintenance and wouldn't mind a quiet or low activity home. I'll show my gratitude daily with my cute paw waves and head tilts with the most adorable face wrinkles. The adoption fee for Yrene is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Yrene please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt. We will review your responses and be in contact to schedule a meet and greet at a time and place convenient for your family and our team members.
