Story
Rabbit is an extraordinary dog. She's extremely smart. She's very athletic, her jumping, agility and speed are remarkable. Rabbit came to us without any information about her actual behavior and we have done our best to help her. Rabbit prefers going potty indoors, even with positive reinforcement and frequent outdoor walks. We suspect she was trained on potty pads and that's what she would like to continue. Rabbit is not nice enough to be a sister to our other dog. She won't let him play, she takes his toys, is jealous of any attention he gets. Rabbit is not a friendly dog but we have taught her to be loving. She growls and lunges at strangers enough to be scary, but she hasn't hurt anyone. She loves attention from her people on her terms. Rabbit would be happiest in a home as the only pet and with only adults. We love her, but in fairness to our other dog and kids we need to find a home that is a better fit. As sad as this makes us,we believe this is best.

Story
Please contact Isabell (pawparent@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Sansa was a stray on the streets of Lancaster and brought to the Lancaster shelter with a terribly matted coat. Poor guy must have been in so much discomfort. The shelter staff bathed and groomed him, but nobody wanted to adopt him so Paw Parent welcomed him. He is very happy here and gets along great with all the dogs. He is afraid when we try to put a leash on him, he must have had bad experiences from living on the streets. He also hates being groomed, his matted coat when he was found probably caused him so much pain and he might have been also terribly abused by people that he will show you his teeth when you approach with scissors. We give him Benadryl before taking him to the groomer to calm him down a bit. He also needs to be taught not to pee in the house. Otherwise is very quiet and mellow and does not cause any trouble. He is around 9 years old and weighs 15 pounds. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and ready for his new forever home. Could it be yours? Please call 661-724-0642 or email us at pawparent@gmail.com if you would like to meet him.January 23, 2025, 2:05 pm

Story
From the Veterinarian:Simba was surrendered with a generalized skin infection and bilateral ear infections. These conditions can take quite a long time to heal! So here we are 5 months later, and he is finally looking normal! It is recommended that an adopter take him to their regular family vet to establish a relationship right away because he must stay on a special prescription diet for now, no TREATS, or unapproved food, his skin condition was likely due to food allergies. The big bag of dry he will need sells for $149 and a case is $56. We understand that this is pricey, but it goes a long way. He will also need once a week special shampoo baths at home. These will also be enjoyable to Simba to keep his skin clean and healthy. As long as an adopter maintains a good relationship with their regular vet and stays on a strict diet, he can continue to live a comfortable, happy life without more skin and ear infections. Now that his medical needs are explained, you should know that he is a loving, sweet boy, once he trusts you and is comfortable. His former owners said he lived around kids and was a good boy, but any new adopter needs to be cautious of scary situations or bold toddlers that might frighten him before he is comfortable being around them. He had always lived indoors with his former humans, and seems to be pretty well house trained. He should not be adopted by someone who is a first time dog parent. once he settles in to a new home, no doubt he`ll make someone very happy.Simba is in a Foster Home and not housed at the shelter. Please contact our foster coordinator at vbasfosterinfo@gmail.com to arrange a meet and greet.

Story
Sweet Louie had the rug pulled out from under him when his owner developed dementia and went into assisted living. Louie is a purebred apricot miniature poodle who was purchased from a breeder and lived with his owner his entire life until her passing. Louie is 12 years old, but has good energy and is up for any kind of adventure: walking, playing with his ball, and hanging out with other dogs, no matter the size. Louie exhibits no pulling on the leash and just needs a gentle hand to guide him while he explores the world. Understandably, since Louie is now in a foster home, he sometimes gets spooked over unfamiliar sounds, such as the clanging of a gate, but we expect that once he feels more comfortable, this will subside. Cautious in his new indoor surroundings, Louie is quite curious when outside or at the grocery store. He has a great sniffer! Louie is a very sensitive and can be shy at first, but when meeting other dogs during walks, he's ready to play, tail erect and confident. Playful, he loves the squeaky ball, and has a knack of catching the ball with his front paws like a basketball player then rebouncing it! And in the kitchen, you'll see a ballerina appear, when he tiptoes with great balance and precision to smell food on the counter. Louie has a ferocious appetite, and will eat anything presented - apple wedges, peanut butter, boiled carrots - and his kibble mixed with wet food. Louie listens well and knows his manners. Housebroken, Louie can hold it for seven to eight hours. He accepts hands-on bathing and handles the blow dryer well. Being a typical graceful, athletic Poodle, we believe Louie would love to have a dog buddy and a backyard to romp and play in. Louie would love a family that would take him on walks, too. Could that family be yours?
