Story

Simmba has been waiting for his forever home for over a year now at Shelter Hope. Simmba is a 3 y/o and 13 lb Poodle mix who was surrendered the day after Christmas 2024. Before that, he lived only outdoors and received less attention as his family’s children grew older. Despite this, Simmba has a huge heart and blossoms with patience, consistency, and kindness. Simmba loves fetch, squeaky toys, and zooming or rolling through the grass, as well as soaking up the sun on his favorite bench. Indoors, he keeps his lamby toy close, happily offers enthusiastic face kisses, and adores cuddles, belly rubs, and simply being near his people. He also respects boundaries and will retreat to his bed or “sanctuary” when asked. His foster tells us he seems fully potty trained, food-motivated, and already knows the “sit” command. Simmba can be protective and sometimes needs help navigating his big feelings (which is why he’s often called a “project dog”) but he bonds deeply and is incredibly loyal once trust is built. He does have some skin allergies, possibly food-related, and currently wears a cone to prevent licking, though it doesn’t slow down his playful, quirky personality. He does best in a calm, low-chaos environment, where he can grow more confident and relaxed. His foster is actively socializing him with new people and other dogs, and he’s making excellent progress. With his fun-loving nature, Simmba could do well as an only dog or with another small, friendly, playful female dog as a companion. What he truly needs is a home without kids who is willing to give him the time and understanding he’s waited so long for. Simmba has so much love to give. Lucille Ball is a sweet 1 1/2 year old, 9-pound red poodle with a gentle and soulful spirit. Though she shares her name with a famous red headed comedian, she is a soft and tender little girl still finding her confidence. Lucille is wonderful with other dogs and is a total cuddle bug who is warm, loving, and absolutely adorable. She came to Shelter Hope after being surrendered by a breeder who regularly overbreeds red poodles and gives up puppies once they’re considered “too old” to sell, even at just five months. Understandably, Lucille is still a bit shy, but with time, patience, and love, her sweet and affectionate nature is starting to shine through. A Loving Home Needed for Brownie & Buddy Sometimes loving your pets means making a very difficult decision with their happiness and well-being at the center of it. We adopted both dogs several years ago and life has changed significantly and we don't feel we can provide for them. We are looking for a special, loving foster or long-term home for Brownie and Buddy , two wonderful dogs who were adopted together approximately four years ago and have become incredibly close companions. Our greatest hope is to find a family who can keep them together and give them the love, attention, activity and companionship they deserve. Brownie “Foxy” is approximately 5 years old, a beautiful Korean Jindo mix weighing about 27 pounds. She is energetic, playful, outgoing and adventurous. Brownie loves being active, exploring and being part of whatever is happening around her. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. Buddy Garson is approximately 7 years old, a 20-pound Goldendoodle mix of am not mistaken, with an incredibly sweet and affectionate personality. Buddy loves people, being held, cuddling and simply being close to you. He is neutered and also up to date on his vaccinations. They complement each other beautifully — Brownie brings the adventure and Buddy brings the cuddles. They have shared a home, a family and a life together for years, and keeping that bond intact is very important to us. As a single father working full-time, I have reached the difficult realization that I am no longer able to give these two loving dogs the time and attention they truly deserve. This is not a decision being made lightly. They are very much loved members of our family, especially by my twins. Ideally, we would love to find a caring foster family or permanent home that would be open, when possible, to allowing my children an occasional opportunity to visit Brownie and Buddy and remain connected to them. That would mean a great deal to our family, but most importantly, we want to find the right home where both dogs will be safe, loved and happy together. Meet Pikan! She is the sweetest girll! She is a 1 year old rescued in South Korea from a dog breeding farm before being sent to a meat farm. We have partners there we work with to get these dogs out of the worst horrors imaginable and bring them to safety. We fly them here for their only chance at survival and a home. Pikan and some of her family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life. These are miracle dogs that they are alive today. Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs.
