Story
Oakley, affectionately known as 'Dottie girl ' by her foster family, has such a sweet, lovable, big personality and is very eager to please!  This Pit/Mountain Curr mix is a total Phoenix that has risen from the fires of neglect, abandonment and even successfully raised her litter of puppies in the woods for the first 10 weeks of life. They were all successfully adopted in the Fall and living wonderful lives of love and commitment from their families.  Oakley is the perfect girl that lives with anyone and everyone that comes her way.  She embraces all people and dogs and she just lives her life with resilience and tolerance.  This girl might not be a Golden Retriever in looks but she surpasses any of the commonly accepted breeds that everyone gravitates to and wants to adopt.  Take her Pit mix package look away and please consider only her SOUL?  Trust us, you will not want to look elsewhere for the most perfect and beautiful temperamented dog.  Oakley sits on command and walks nicely on a leash.  When she meets new people, she is so very social and she embraces all other dogs, adults and children alike.  This girl loves to play dress up in cozy sweaters and loves a good chew toy. HOW FUN!???? RIGHT?  If you have children she is right there to engage and play with them and their fantasies.  This Momma dog is just a young 2yr old, 40lb sweetheart who longs to be an inside dog that can cuddle up next to you on the couch and help you melt the life challenges away.   Oakley had outsmarted many rescuers for months running around the county with her litter of puppies being. When she gave in we realized what a remarkable Mom she was and the beauty of her puppies.  All of her puppies have been adopted, but now Oakley is raising her heart and hand to say…. Pick Me Too!  She deserves a remarkable future and life because she will provide the amazing dog companion to someone that can ever be imagined.  Forget the wrapper on the package and consider the heart please…You won’t regret living a life with Oakley.   If you are looking for a resilient and intelligent girl puppy to adopt then look no further.  This girl is called Topaz and at 11 weeks of age she is 13 pounds and not really big but SOLID.   From what we know about dog breeds she is a Black Mouth Cur mix....mostly Black Mouth Cur and she is amazing.  She is social and seeks the wonderful attention of the people around her.  Topaz is especially drawn to young children.  She is so young and so impressionable but yet the impression she has made on all the adults who encounter her is pretty strong in the category of 'exceptional personality'.   We love Topaz but what we require for her is very specific.  A good dog owner who has experience and knows how to guide, lead and shape a dog into an obedient and awesomely trained companion.  This girl will outsmart first time dog owners in a sweet way.  She will protect her family and their property and she will be the most devoted companion and sibling to all the children.   She seeks approvals and she will do what it takes to be good in that lane of doing all the right things as a puppy.  She is crate trained, exceptional in exploration of her home and property and she will be potty trained before most puppies.  We expect this girl to grow up to be a large girl but not a giant.  Her weight should be in the 55 pound range and her presence in your family will be loving and life-changing.   Topaz is a rescued pup who has been through early in life challenges.  Through it all, she has stayed loyal and loving to the humans despite early abandonment.  She is a beauty and of great strength and caring.  She is a dog that will take care of her home and people as she becomes a part of the years ahead that make a family remember her as a special dog that made their life better.   If you are interested and seasoned for a very devoted and smart puppy, please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com    PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comNovember 22, 2025, 9:52 pm

House trained: Yes Energy level: Low Noise level: Quiet My foster guardian says: My favorite thing about Roscoe is how he gently asks for pets! Likes: Taking walks and getting pets Hi there, Im Roscoe! Im a super sweet, laid back, gentle guy. Some of my favorite things to do are taking long walks, and napping in the sun. I also like to play with my toys, by myself or with my humans, and get all the snuggles. Im a bit of a shy guy, and I dont love loud noises, but other than that Im a happy pup. I like to meet new doggy friends, and love playing with other dogs. Im a little hesitant around human strangers, and the only time my foster mom has heard me bark is when someone I dont know comes to visit. After a few minutes though, Im happy to make friends, and Im gaining confidence as I get more settled in D.C. My foster mom describes me as very polite and well-behaved because Im crate trained, potty-trained, and dont try to get on the furniture. I know come and leave it, and Id be happy to learn even more tricks with my forever family. If youre looking for a gentle pup who will shower you with love and be a loyal walk buddy for life, Im your guy! Apply to adopt me today! Story
Rye is searching for her forever home as the only animal so that she can soak up all the attention from her humans! RYE'S STORY FROM OUR DIRECTOR: Rye was brought up to the DMV Region from a Texas shelter in 2020. I was working for another rescue at the time, running the transport/foster program, and offloaded her myself when she arrived. She fit into the palm of my hand she was so small and only a few weeks old. She was adopted immediately, incorrectly labeled as a chihuahua mix. Unfortunately, 7 months later, her family returned her due to the combination of the pandemic and how "big" she got (she's only 40 lbs but they were expecting an 8 lb Chi-Mix!). Unfortunately from there, Rye was bounced around from foster to foster and boarding facilities until 2021 when the previous rescue felt it was best to euthanize her. I couldn't let that happen so I adopted her with the intention of finding her a home! I renamed her to Rye (named for the kind of whiskey) and started working on training with her. She was our first intake when I co-founded Laila's Legacy in 2023 and we've been working to find her a home since then. RYE IN THE HOME / HER PERFECT FIT: Rye has the funniest personality. She's got energy, bounciness, and is so inquisitive. She's also insanely smart. The latter is a blessing and a curse because she learns training so quickly, has great recall (although I've never allowed her to be off-leash just long-lines for hikes/walks), and learned leash walking skills very quickly. On the flip side, she needs a lot of mental stimulation to keep that big brain happy! I've found it really can be a mix of things to do that though - sitting outside on the stoop to people watch from my house, sitting in a park with her practicing neutrality (and getting treats of course) while I read, practicing all her tricks, working on recall on a long-line, playing tug/fetch, brain games and puzzle toys, you name it. Anyone that is excited to go on walks and spend time with their dog - have a companion - will love Rye. She just wants to hang with her humans and get some mental stimulation while she does it. In late 2021, Rye started urinating in her crate. An odd behavior because she's very potty trained and crate trained. In early 2022 she had a seizure and it was then we discovered she was having mini-seizures causing her to urinate in her crate. Unfortunately, they do still occasionally happen but she takes a once daily med called Keppra which is easy to get from Chewy and she LOVES peanut butter so she takes it every day without issue. I've seen the crate urination drastically reduce and when I was working from home full-time it was non existent because she was hanging with me outside of the crate so much. Rye's intelligence comes from her breed - likely Catahoula or some sort of herding breed. That's where her prey drive comes from as well so she'd prefer a home without cats! When it comes to her relationship with dogs, she loves to play. She'll play with mine and have a grand ol' time romping around with them. Because of her herding tendencies she's been muzzle trained as well for playing and has a cute bright pink muzzle for when it's needed and she wears it with ~style~. In the home, Rye will guard her items from other dogs. This could include food, toys, bed, etc. so for her sake we recommend she not go to a home with dogs in it. But honestly, that will also be a win-win because she LOVES her humans so fiercely and wants to be your companion that it'll let her have all the one-on-one time she and her future owner will love. Rye has been through a training program and her trainer loves her. Rye's future forever family will be connected with that trainer for a "Rye 101 Course" on her training and are highly encouraged to do more sessions and continue to build her education! While I adore Rye with my whole heart, and have been honored to spend so much time with her, it's time for this sweet gal to find her forever home and get OUT of the rescue world! She deserves to be the spoiled queen she wants to be and I can' t wait to see that for her! Please check out her video at here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3Oz8dKkj64 ------------ Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue does not guarantee that any dog is housebroken nor crate trained. We strive to provide accurate information on all of our animals however, we are unable to guarantee an animal's breed, size, health, behavior, temperament, or any other conditions. Our adoption fees are not inclusive of all vetting / medical care, food, supplies and/or training costs.
