Hi! My name is Jake (from State Farm). I am a 45# mountain cur, plott hound, pug mix with the most soulful eyes you have ever looked into. Unfortunately, I decided I wanted my older brother Bull to move out and thought that if I picked on him enough, he would run away. That plan backfired when I wouldn’t listen to Mom one day and kept fighting with my brother and hurt him. Now my Mom & Dad have said I need to find a home where I can be an only dog (yippee!) and get all the loving; pets and treats I want without having to share. Mom & Dad tell people that I am awesome and amazing, but I don’t like Bull for some reason. (Probably because he is a grumpy butt). I know basic commands like sit and stay – you never have to tell me to sit when food is involved – I know how to park my butt! I walk well on a leash but since I am super strong, I wear a gentle leader so my parents won’t need new shoulders. I LOVE car rides and going on adventures. I especially love people.

Mama was found very pregnant and trying to survive all on her own in a rural area of Miami - she was desperately trying to find somewhere safe because it was almost time for us to be born. Luckily, Guardians of Florida Animal Rescue came right away! Mama went into labor right there in the car on our way to the rescue.Anyways, I am 5 months old, weighed in at 24lbs as of Mid-May and all ready to find my very own family. Mama appears to be a lab/cur mix and I don't know daddy. I last weighed around 20-25lbs and the rescue estimates I will probably be about 45-55 lbs full grown (best guess-can't be guaranteed). While a little shy, I am very sweet and warm up quickly. I am estimated at 2 years old, weigh around 50 lbs and my rescue sees mountain cur and Rhodesian ridgeback in me (best guess). I was part of a hoarding case where I had been kept in a crate with very little socialization for a long period of time. Luckily, Guardians of Florida Animal Rescue heard about me and provided the care I needed to get healthy. They have been so very gentle and patient with me as I learned to trust and how to be a "dog". While I am still a little shy at first, I am doing much better and finally ready to start looking for my furever family. I walk pretty good on leash and try to keep my kennel clean- with your help, we can establish a potty schedule that works for both of us. I have been okay with other dogs here at the rescue, but sometimes get scared when there’s a lot of barking and commotion. If you have a current dog, please bring him/her to the meet and greet with you so we can all meet.As I am still a little shy, I would do best with either no children or children over 12yrs of age that know how to be calm and gentle with me.
