Story
Gizmo is a very sweet little boy, however he does not like children due to them tormenting him in his previous home. He has the typical Pekingese personality and we require an adopter familiar with the breed. He would do great as the only dog in the household. He had food and resource guarding issues in the shelter, but we found that not to be problematic in our care. He is just a typical Pekingese. A sensitive breed with a strong personality. We think he is an exceptional little boy that any lover of this breed would adore. A quiet home with someone there most of the time that wants a constant loyal companion and who understands and loves this breed of dog is the best home for Giz. All potential adopters must fill out applications and be approved before meeting the pet they are interested in adopting. To adopt one of the precious lives that we have saved, this rescue requires an approved application, a suitable home environment, a signed adoption contract, and an adoption fee. If approved to adopt, we expect applicants to pick up their new pets in person at the pet's foster location. Thank you for understanding that these dogs' welfare and quality of life, for the rest of their life, is our top priority and why we must be extremely diligent in their placement. If interested in adoption or fostering for us, please click the following links.....To apply to adopt, please click this link: http://tennesseetoyrescue.tripod.com/application.htm To apply to foster one of our rescue dogs or volunteer for PP, please click http://tennesseetoyrescue.tripod.com/fosterapp.html Submission instructions are at the bottom of the application. Story
Chewy is a classic little old Pekingese companion. He is about 11 years old. His elderly owner has recently entered nursing home care, and so he needs to find a new person to be with. He doesn’t like to be alone, and just wants to sleep, take a couple of short walks, and find out what you are eating that smells so good.

Story
Fifi is a 2–4-year-old, 10–15 lb female chihuahua/pekingese mix from Mexico who has adjusted well to life in the suburbs. This sweet girl loves snuggles, belly rubs, and giving kisses—especially on your arms! She’s smart, affectionate, and loves being close to her people. Fifi has even shown off some impressive jumping skills! Fifi is making great progress with obedience training and already understands “sit.” She’s working on her leash skills and improving every day—she’s a quick learner and eager to please. She’s doing well with potty training, using wee pads and also going outside. Fifi hasn’t shown any signs of separation anxiety and hasn’t been destructive at all. She’s happy to relax at home and loves curling up with her foster family for cozy downtime. Fifi would thrive in a medium to active household where she can enjoy both playtime and relaxation. She’s fine with other dogs but would likely be happiest as the center of attention in a solo-dog home. However, she’s not a fan of cats, so a feline-free home is best. Her future family will need to continue reinforcing the progress she’s made with training and confidence-building. Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, bordetella, and Lepto. Spayed and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.  To apply to foster/foster to adopt Fifi, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for a foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Questions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org ##2312902##

Story
Winchester -  9 years, 7lbs, Chi/Peke Mix, Neutered  Want to adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Level of dog ownership experience needed:FLEXIBLE: We predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale with regard to exercise and mental stimulation requirements, but seniors tend to need a lot of help and understanding when it comes to lifestyle and veterinary issues. Seniors usually need quiet, calm environments and routines and do not do well with a lot of bustle, change, and rambunctious movement (kids and young playful dogs, for instance). This dog’s adopter will need to be prepared for senior health challenges, which usually come with expensive veterinary bills and time in vet offices. Senior care can also take an emotional toll on their humans. Adopting a mature pup is a wonderful thing to do, but it can also be difficult.  Energy levelLOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few short walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs socializing opportunities outside the home and a little mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice or chew items. Potty trained?Probably! Seniors usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. Seniors tend to need potty breaks more often than younger dogs though, and they can lose their ability to fully control their potty habits as they continue to age, so willingness to be flexible with cleanup and wee pads if necessary is important.  Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some enjoy the company of other calm dogs, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats?Probably. Seniors are usually mellow enough that they are able to coexist well with cats.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most seniors do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one). How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
