Meet Heineken! A lively seven-and-a-half-year-old Pointer mix currently living in Three Rivers, OR, whose zest for life is as strong as his love for a good trail run and a sunny nap. With his mostly white coat and athletic 65-pound frame, he’s a striking sight on the trail—and a loyal companion through every season of adventure and rest! Heineken is a trail-blazing athlete at heart. Long-distance runs? No problem! Lake fetch? Count him in! He’s the kind of dog who thrives on outdoor activity and brings unfiltered joy to every hike, run, and splash session. But he’s not all go-go-go—this guy knows how to chill. After a good workout, he’ll happily stretch out in a sunny patch of grass or curl up fireside, satisfied and calm. Trained in all the basics—sit, stay, come, leave it, lay down, “kennel up”—Heineken is incredibly responsive to clear direction and structure. He’s crate trained, house-trained, and comfortable being left alone for stretches of the day. But like many sensitive souls, he has his quirks. Heineken does best in a calm, predictable environment and has shown that the hustle and bustle of young children isn’t his scene. He becomes anxious around infants and toddlers, especially when there’s crying or sudden movement. In one instance, he snapped at a baby during a stressful moment—he didn’t cause harm, but it was enough to show that a kid-free home or one with older, dog-savvy children (age 10+) would suit him far better. He’s also selective with other dogs, especially off-leash. While he can be friendly and playful with the right match—typically females or mellow males—he can become territorial or threatened around unfamiliar dogs, and he tends to react strongly to huskies in particular. Positive introductions and controlled environments are key to his success. Loud vehicles like motorcycles can startle him, and he may bark or lunge out of nervous energy. He’s on a low dose of vet-prescribed Fluoxetine, which has helped ease some of that reactivity, alongside the natural maturity that comes with age. 🐾 Background Songsol was found on the streets of Yongin, Korea last summer. She had been abandoned and was in terrible condition. Her body was extremely thin, with only skin and bones left. She had severe bedsores and was unable to walk. Weak and exhausted, she was rushed to the hospital where she stayed for one month. After her hospitalization, Songsol joined our partner boarding house. With proper care, she slowly began to gain weight and rebuild her strength. She now lives peacefully with other dogs and continues to grow healthier every day. 🐾 Personality and Socialization Songsol is a gentle and loving girl with a medium energy level. She is friendly with everyone she meets and does well with other dogs as long as they are friendly. More than anything, Songsol loves being with her people. She is very affectionate and enjoys cuddling and staying close to her humans. She is truly a people focused dog and feels happiest when she is by your side. 🐾 Behaviour Songsol is an easygoing and smart girl. She does well in the car and is calm during baths, grooming, and vet visits. She walks nicely on leash and is generally well behaved. She can experience separation anxiety and prefers being near her humans. For this reason, we are looking for a home where someone is around most of the time and can offer her reassurance and companionship. 🐾 Health and Diet While we do not know what Songsol went through before she was found, it is clear that she suffered severe neglect. Thankfully, she has fully recovered and is now healthy and is ready for her forever home. She does not require any special medication or treatment. Songsol is spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and dewormed. She eats dry food twice a day and has shown no signs of allergies. 🐾 Ideal Home Songsol is a sweet, gentle, and intelligent dog who deeply loves people. Her ideal home would be one where she is rarely left alone and is included in daily life. A detached house is preferred, as she may bark if she feels anxious when left alone. A quiet environment such as the countryside would suit her well. Pete was rescued in East Hollywood in late September. He is est. 2-3 years old and 45 lbs. He is house-trained and is generally good on leash, although he is still working on pulling. He has gone to a couple training classes and is very eager to learn/very trainable. He responds to a whistle. While his exact breed(s) are unknown, we think he is German Shorthaired Pointer. This breed is known for having lots of energy and loving a job - he will be a perfect companion for someone who loves to be outdoors, likes to hike, or lives on property with lots of land. He enjoys an active life and prefers to be around people. Pete is great with other dogs and knows his boundaries. He loves cats and once he's used to them, will mostly leave them alone. Pete is not a picky eater and will enjoy anything he is served. His favorite toys are ropes and stuffies (which he will pull all the fluff out of if allowed!). He enjoys a good cuddle and loves to bathe in the sunshine.
