Meet Prince Leo! ❤️ There’s a reason we call him a Prince. This 2-year-old, 18-pound Pom mix is a gentle, sweet-natured little boy who deserves nothing less than to be cherished. He has a really sweet disposition and a gentle, tender heart. Leo was found as a stray in the intense Bakersfield heat, wandering the orchards alongside three other dogs. A Good Samaritan safely trapped them and reached out to our rescue so we could help them find the loving homes they deserve, before they ever had to enter the overcrowded high-kill shelter in the area. Leo is nervous around people, but he is very gentle and never pushy. Give him some time and he’ll start to come closer, sniff you, or happily accept a treat. He’s most confident around other dogs, and they bring out a more relaxed, playful side of him. He loves following his doggie friends around, exploring his surroundings, and finding a cozy spot to settle in. Leo has previously lived in a home for over a year, so he knows what it’s like to be part of a family. He’s just going to need the right person to help him feel secure again. A patient adopter and a friendly doggie friend could make all the difference for this sweet boy. Leo isn’t going to be an instant-connection kind of dog. He’s a slow-burn love story—the kind where you celebrate the first time he chooses to sit beside you, the first time he seeks you out, and every little bit of confidence he gains along the way. Prince Leo is fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Meet Toffeel! He is the sweetest boyl! He is a 2 year old that was rescued from a kill shelter before heading to a dog meat farm in South Korea. We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable. Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth. If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away. Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat. Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South Korea, and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men. Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions. The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade. Charlie and some of his family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life. These are miracle dogs that they are alive today. Leo the Lion is a loveable 2 year old Pomeranian mix. He was surrendered by his former owners and was fortunate enough to find his way on to The Rescue Train. He is a sweet, funny dog that likes to cuddle, going on long walks and carrying around his favorite Nylabone. Although Leo is hearing impaired, he is very smart. He was recently diagnosed with epilepsy and his seizures are being controlled with phenobarbital. His foster took lessons with a trainer that specializes in deaf dogs so an adopter experienced with deaf/special needs dogs is a plus. He walks well on leash and is very good at maintaining eye contact so he knows when to safely cross the street. He doesn't bark very often, but he does bark very loudly so an apartment would not suit him. He interacts well with other dogs but doesn't necessarily initiate play and sometimes just likes to just watch from the sidelines. Meet Séraphine! This dog is adoptable in the Los Angeles area only Séraphine is a 15-year-old, 8.3-pound Pomeranian mix with the sweetest soul. This darling senior is happiest enjoying life's simple pleasures—a cozy nap, a slow walk, a full belly, and plenty of ear scratches. She loves following her person around like a little shadow, although every now and then she surprises everyone with adorable bunny-like zoomies after a walk! She's completely house-trained, walks beautifully on leash, and gets along well with other dogs. While she's happy to coexist with canine friends, she's much more interested in spending time with her people. Séraphine absolutely melts into you when she's getting her favorite ear scratches. She's also a smart little lady who knows exactly how to ask for what she wants—whether it's another helping of food or a trip outside. Due to years of severe dental disease before coming to rescue, Séraphine's jaw has weakened and now hangs open most of the time. It gives her an extra-special smile, but it doesn't slow her down one bit! Eating can be a little messy and take a bit more effort, but she's determined, loves her meals (especially a little ice cream!), and enjoys life to the fullest.
