Story
Buffy was found locked inside a cage on the side of a freeway with two other dogs. Likely hundreds of people drove by and did nothing, but one kind woman stopped to help. Her name is Anna and we thank her for saving their lives. They had no collars, tags, or microchips. We don’t know exactly how long they were out there, but by the looks of it, it was likely several days. They had no food or water. Their paws were so caked in dried poop that they were stuck to the metal cage and couldn’t move. Now safe and thriving at Shelter Hope, we named them Xander, Buffy, and Angel. Buffy is a 7-year-old Pom mix weighing about 23 pounds. She is gentle, super sweet, and a bit timid at first, but once she warms up she becomes friendly, affectionate, and very cuddly. She loves attention, enjoys being petted, and is happiest curled up in a lap or resting beside her people. Buffy has a calm, loving nature, does well with other dogs, and is good with kids. Buffy is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption. She’s looking for a forever home where she can finally feel safe, cherished, and truly at home. ---- Looking to Adopt? Story
Prince Leo is a 2-year-old, 18-pound Pom mix who is ready for his second chance. He was found as a stray in Bakersfield with three other dogs. Sadly, this area has become a common dumping ground for unwanted dogs. A good samaritan found them, trapped them, and reached out to us for help. Shelter Hope took in all four. Prince Leo is a nervous boy around humans, but he is very gentle and sweet. Once he feels at ease, he’ll come forward to sniff you or accept treats. His personality truly shines around other dogs, where he feels most confident, and he can become anxious if left alone without them. He loves exploring, relaxing in his bed, and following around his doggie friends. Before coming to us, he spent over a year in a home and is still slowly coming out of his shell. Prince Leo is fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped. He has been through a lot, and we know there is a home out there for him that will give him the love, time, and patience he deserves. ------- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Story
Meet Babkong! She is the sweetest most adorable girll! A little shy at first but a snuggler once she knows its safe.  She is a 6 month old that was rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea.  We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable.  Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth.  If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away.  Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat.   Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South  Korea,  and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men.    Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions.  The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade.  Bappul and her sister Babkong and some of her family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life.  These are miracle dogs that they are alive today.  Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs.  If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app February 26, 2026, 1:08 pm

Story
This stud muffin is sure to win someone's heart. Last week one of our fosters was asked if they could hold a stray dog overnight while we and the finder tried to find the owner. Cupid was plastered all over social media, signs were posted in the neighborhood where he was found, and the shelter was notified. Unfortunately, no one came forward after 24hrs so, Cupid went to the shelter for his legal stray hold. Sadly, while at the shelter, still no one came looking for Cupid. When our Foster dropped him off at the shelter she promised she would be back for him if his owners did not show up. So, yesterday she went and pulled him. Cupid will be ready for adoption soon. He seems to have a little bit of a cold or upper respiratory infection that we are treating but while he waits to feel better, we can start accepting applications. What we do know is that Cupid is a one year old fluffball weighing just 10lbs. Our best guess is that he is a Pom mix. He is 100% crate trained, good with kids, and other dogs. He is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and  ##2664574##
