Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.*   Casmini sometimes acts like a grumpy old lady. She doesn't like when the other dogs in her foster home to try and play with her, she may even let out a little growl if she thinks they are getting to playful near her. She co-exists with her dog foster siblings fine, she would just prefer to stay out of their playtime and would rather be cuddled with her human napping. Casmini can be a bit of a diva who likes to be carried around. She very much likes to be with her person and would like to go everywhere they go. Her favorite place to sleep is right next to her person. She does get startled by sudden movements so probably no small children for her. She is potty trained and does well in a car. She is on medication for a heart murmur, which is managing it well. Are you looking for a little girl with a lot of love to give? Submit your application today! Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your Senior dog in top shape. Casmini is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 12/16/2023 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you'd like to donate towards this pet's care, you can donate to our Animal Care Fund. Our Animal Care Fund supports the medical and veterinary needs for all Ruff Start Rescue animals. You'll be able to enter this pet's name on the second page of the donation form. Story
Hi! My name is Astro and I am from Missouri. From the foster: Astro is a very shy, sweet girl. She was a breeder release so the world is all new to her. She enjoys other dogs, but is scared of people. Even when scared, she has not exhibited any aggression. It is going to take time for this little girl to relax and know she is safe. She must feel safe about 2:00 in the morning as she wakes up, barks, runs around her room having a gay old time when no one can see her. She would not be a good choice for shared walls! We are working on trying to help her feel safe in the daytime so she can sleep at nighttime. She is quite good about using potty pads for her bathroom duties. When she goes outside, she wears a trailing leash in our fenced in backyard so we can catch her and she can get used to having a leash on her neck. She is a flight risk if taken out of the fenced in yard. She sits with us on the couch at night and seems to enjoy being petted and ears scratched. She is absolutely adorable. Astro will need a patient, gentle family to help her learn that she is safe and loved. She will do best with another dog to give her support and a fence to keep her safe. Little kids that are noisy would scare her. She is scheduled for her spay and to fix her hernia on January 8. She will be available to go to her new home at that time. Medical Bio:"Hi, I'm Astro and I just wanted to let my future adoptive family know about 1 medical finding during my journey at SHH. I had an umbilical hernia that needed surgical repair. It's just an incomplete closure of the umbilical ring after birth. Once I have the surgery to correct this it will no longer cause any issues or require any follow up. Can't wait to meet you!"

Story
Hi! My name is Skye and I am from Missouri. From the foster: Initially Skye was very shy and fearful, but now he is goofy and full of energy. Even though Skye is timid and prefers to stay just out of arms reach, he craves companionship and likes to be near us. Despite his age, Skye looks and acts like a spunky little puppy. He'd love a little furry friend to help keep him company, he tries to play with his foster siblings but they ignore him (they're also 10x his size). He sleeps in his crate at night. He doesn't bark much at night anymore, but during the day will bark when left alone. We are still working on establishing a potty routine, he's been doing well on picking it up. This guy might be a little older, but he is truly young at heart.

Story
Hi! My name is Pluto and I am from Missouri. From the foster: Pluto is adorable, very cuddly, but can be barky. He loves, loves, loves to be with his people. He is not as happy if you are upstairs and he is downstairs and he will let you know. He was sick with a respiratory infection when he first came to us, lethargic and coughing. He is definitely feeling better now and running around with the dogs or playing with toys. Because he was sick at first, we didn't go outside and he has been using potty pads for his bathroom duties. Now that he is feeling better, we have started going outside which is so fun to watch him run and play. He sleeps quietly in a kennel in the bedroom with us. He can be barky and shared walls may not be his best environment. He has no aggression and loves people. He would benefit from positive motivational obedience training to help him develop self confidence and socialization to people, places and animals.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  DOB: 09/01/2020 Requires another dog in home: Yes  Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: Yes, but very fearful Weight: 12.6 lbs Requires a fenced yard:   Yes, needs a fenced yard Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area. Invisible/ underground fencing is not recommended for most rescue dogs. Hello! I’m Beans & Rice…no, I’m not really food…that’s just my name! Hee, hee! I am a stunning albeit VERY shy & fearful young adult female Pomapoo. I enjoy chewing on rubbery things like bully sticks & Nyla bones, eating freeze dried chicken & liver treats, and when I think nobody’s watching me, I love to sneak around and explore everything! Hee, hee!! I’m working on potty training and although I’m leash trained, I will need my new yard to be securely fenced to ensure my safety. I also know what “wait”, “outside”, and “go potty” mean so you can see I’m quite smart! I’m a quiet girl who has not met any cats or larger dogs and I’m fearful of loud noises, commotion, & people. In fact, although I’m good with kids, I’m so fearful of people I don’t even like to be touched. That said, since coming to live with foster mom I have made, what I consider, a LOT of progress although VERY SLOWLY and on my own terms. I am most comfortable in my safe spot (dog bed) where I can observe the goings on around me. Foster mom was SO excited that I not only tried out the dog bed but love it! See…I’m making progress…It's the small things am I right!?! Anyway, I have also started to initiate play with my two small senior canine sibs, but it must be said that I’m not a fan of the puppy mom’s fostering. Additionally, I have tolerated foster mom putting harnesses that make that terrifying Velcro sound & cones on my neck; giving me oral liquid medications; bathing & brushing my beautiful coat; and trimming my nails…all of it!! So clearly, I’m trying diligently to conquer my fears because honestly, I want nothing more than to trust people and be comfortable in my world! I am a preciously sweet non-aggressive girl who truly deserves unconditional love & security from a patient fur-ever family that not only promises to NEVER give up on me but who will give me the time & space I need. Yes, it may take quite a bit of time for me to be comfortable and learn to trust but I assure you not only am I worth it, but I will love you more than you could ever imagine!!! Love, Beans & Rice *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a    particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.     ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Good with dogs,
Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    DOB: 10/01/2015 Requires another dog in home: Yes, needs another confident dog Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes, dog friendly dogs Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: Unknown Weight: 13 pounds Requires a fenced yard:  Yes, needs a fence  Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area. Invisible/ underground fencing is not recommended for most rescue dogs. Hello, my name is Jessie and I am the perfect combination of sweet and gentle. I am a timid and shy girl who is making tremendous progress living in a home with a loving family. I have learned so many things – the most important is to trust my people. My people have been very gentle and going slow with me and I have made a lot of progress. She gives me little massages on my head and back – it is so relaxing for me and my people. I have the softest coat and I think you will agree! I am a shy little girl, so having a confident dog in my forever home is required. Another dog will be helpful to show me the ropes, help me get on a routine and help me feel comfortable in my surroundings. Foster mom tells me with a little time and a lotta love, I will come out of my shell and be a great friend to my people. A lot of commotion worry me a bit, so I spend time in my comfy bed watching the activity in the house. Hopefully you have lots of comfy beds for me! Potty training is going great, my foster mom carries me outside and I am good about doing my business on a routine. While I will go potty on a leash, I don't know how to go for walks yet so will need a fence. Maybe there is another dog in the house to show me how to walk on a leash? Hopefully! Anyway, I am ready for my forever. My forever family, my forever home and my forever best friend that will love me unconditionally, not give up on me! I promise I’m worth it and I will fill that hole that you possibly never even knew was there! Invisible/ underground fencing is not recommended for most rescue dogs. Rowr! My name is Lion and am a little bit cowardly but am trying my best!  I really want to be friends and will wag my little tail to let you know how excited I am to see you. Although I am a bit shy, I do like to get attention, especially when the other dogs are getting attention. I am close by, but am still timid so keep just out of reach. I know with some patience and time I will learn to trust people. When my people walk by, I will lay down and let my foster mom pick me up. She will carry me around and tell me everything will be ok. I love when she talks to me in a gentle voice. We are working on all the important socialization skills. Potty training is a work in progress – and I do need a fence in my forever home as I don’t have a lot of leash experience. I do need another dog in my forever home to help me build confidence and learn to trust people. Having another confident and social dog will help me get on a routine – because I know I can follow the leader! When we go to obedience school together I know we will learn lots of new things and it will be a great opportunity for us to bond and build confidence. Ready for a little friend that has a lot of love to give? All I need now is a forever family with patience and unconditional love to help me bloom.    * Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.
