Meet Pepper 🐾 Pepper is a 3-year-old Pomeranian mix who came to us from a hoarding situation and had very minimal human interaction before entering rescue. Because of this, much of the world is completely new and overwhelming to her. She has never worn a collar or harness. She has never been on a leash. Because of this, Pepper is considered a flight risk and will need a home that understands the importance of safety, secure handling, and a very cautious approach as she learns to feel safe. Pepper is shy, fearful, and unsure, but she deserves a calm, compassionate foster or adopter who can give her the space, consistency, and understanding she needs to feel safe. A quiet home with realistic expectations will be essential for her success. Pepper has shown that she can do well with cats and is good with other dogs when given proper, slow introductions. She also loves stuffed toys, which bring her comfort and help her feel a little more secure as she settles in. If you have experience with fearful dogs or hoarding cases—or simply a big heart and patience—Pepper could truly benefit from you. Even a foster home can make a life-changing difference for her.

Introducing our newest sweet senior, Cali! This 10 year old Pomsky has been a frequent flyer at a local shelter, kept outside and running loose on a regular basis. This last time her owners didn’t come back for her so she finally has the chance for a better life and responsible loving home. She’s a sweetheart, blind but navigates well, loves being brushed and belly rubs, and is fine with other smallish gentle dogs (she’s about 17lbs full grown and looks like an oversized Pomeranian). She’s been spayed, had a dental, and had a small benign mammary mass removed and has recovered nicely, and is ready for a home that appreciates her loyalty and lovely disposition. Sweet one-eyed Ilya has a story written all over his gentle little face. We’re not sure what happened to his eye, but it certainly doesn’t slow him down — if anything, it just makes him even more special. He was surrendered to the local animal shelter in Jersey City, where he was absolutely terrified. We stepped in to save him, and once he felt safe, his true personality began to shine. Ilya comes out of his shell quickly and reveals the most incredibly sweet, soft soul. He is gentle, quiet, and affectionate — and honestly, he acts like a cat! He loves to curl up, observe the world calmly, and soak in love in the most delicate way. Suspected to be a senior around 7–8 years old, Ilya is past the chaos and just wants comfort, kindness, and a cozy spot to call his own. He is good with other dogs and all people, and his tender nature makes him such an easy companion. ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home. In some cases, we can help transport. Zani's al fresco Summer Adoptions follow us on FB to find us this summer as we will try new locations to meet the needs of NYC and support the little stores:) Name: Aria Gender: Female Age: 7 months Weight: 9 pounds Vaccinated: Yes Spayed: Yes House trained: Just about Aria was rescued when she was incredibly tiny, after being thrown into a trash bin. One of our flight volunteers stepped in to foster her and give her a chance at life. From the very beginning, she explained she could not adopt Aria due to a severe medical condition, but still chose to help her anyway. All she asked was that we umbrella Aria and make sure her efforts were not in vain, and that this little puppy would one day find a loving home. Now, Aria’s foster mom and foster auntie must travel to Newark for personal reasons, and they are able to bring Aria with them. Aria walks nicely on leash. She can be a little shy in new environments, but warms up quickly once she feels safe. She appears to be house trained, though she is still young and may need a bit of patience while adjusting to a new home. The good news is that she learns very fast. Ruki already had a skin condition and wasn’t able to get proper treatment at the shelter, so Adogs rescued him before it became worse. 3⃣ Basic Information ❗️As a young puppy, he may need training in areas such as separation anxiety, potty habits, biting, nipping, whining, disorderly behaviors, howling and barking. ❗️It is difficult to predict his shedding and growth size because his parents are unknown. * With People: Is shy with new people and isn’t comfortable with human touch yet, so he must be cornered before he can be petted. However, he accepts it nicely once you actually touch him although he still needs more time to become comfortable with it since he’s timid. Lives and moves around comfortably around familiar people. Has overcome his fear of hands and he will he sniffs hands if they come near his nose. * With Dogs: Got along with no issues with other dogs when he lived at our center. Hasn’t met new friends yet after moving to his foster home, so checking is needed. * With Cats: Unknown because he hasn’t met them yet. * Separation Anxiety: Stays alone well. * Potty Training: Was previously excellent with pottying indoors using potty pads, but after a visit to the vet, he has started having accidents on cushions when scared, whining to have it cleaned up. Is being slowly retrained. * Hygiene: Does well with baths. * Walks: Hasn’t had experience with walks yet. * Car Sickness: Has a bit of motion sickness so care is needed. * Is a kind dog that’s never bitten. * Whines if he’s forcibly held. If he has a potty accident, he whines as if asking to have it cleaned up. * Likes treats but the vet suggested to cut back on them, so he’s only being fed a few treats. * Is scared of loud noises and becomes afraid if you move your hands downwards suddenly. Whines and expresses discomfort if you try to hold him. May have potty accidents if you set him down on the floor in areas with many people or at the vet. If you hold him with his bottom well supported, he feels safer. * Has started crate training, but there hasn’t been much progress yet.
