Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!Well I was 'purchased' by a senior citizen.  He was 78 and I was a puppy :(  I had to be around really big dogs.  By the time I was 2 I had learned that I needed to protect myself.  My owner had realized he was to old to handle a puppy.  To say it was a mess was an understatement :(   My owners daughter started calling all around looking for help to place me.  She told the people I was food aggressive, dog aggressive and only liked males so of course most rescues the SPCA included didn't want anything to do with me :(Lucky for me Lynn decided she wanted to meet me.  She took my leash and we went for a walk.  I just knew by the way she walked with me that she was in charge and I didn't have to be.  She picked me up and carried me for a little while and I decided I liked it!She brought this big dog Millie into the play yard.  Oh no I was scared but Lynn seemed to think it would be alright so I decided to see what would happen.  Millie was very nice and she gave me my space hmmmm I think I might be OK with dogs.  The next day I came for a visit at the ranch for the day.  I met ALL the dogs and it was OK no one wanted to hurt me!!  Now I run around the ranch and I am part of the pack and guess what I like EVERYONE!  I'm even OK with female humans!!!  Life is GREAT!!  PLEASE if you are a senior be smart and don't get a young dog get a dog that is more your age and activity level and one that won't be left behind to start over when you are gone.  Its not fair.  I know other people can take the dog but boy would you like to have your world turned upside down and start all over again just because someone was selfish enough to not think ahead???MUST HAVE FENCED YARD AND ANOTHER DOG Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!May 19, 2024, 10:39 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Fostering is a very important part of rescue because it allows more animals to be saved. There is a capacity on how many dogs Peace Love & Poms Rescue can have at one time and sadly we can’t save every dog that needs our help. Every foster home that welcomes a foster dog, opens a space at the rescue so that another dog can be saved.  Fostering also provides an in-home experience, which makes the dog that much more adaptable.  Fostering is extremely rewarding and you are helping to save innocent lives. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 24, 2024, 7:26 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Steely is searching for his perfect home! This 7(we think) year old 14-pound boy is healthy, but he does have quirks. Not much is known about his background, but we know his history since March 2023. He was sent to a Pittsburgh shelter for emergency boarding. After 2 months with nobody coming back to get him or return calls, he was abandoned in the shelter. That’s when we were contacted. Shelter life was not good to him, and he was starting to act out and become aggressive to the staff and other dogs. Steely is easily excitable so we started medication to help him level out. After a month with his foster family, he has started to calm down, not be so reactive, and learn how to be a loved house dog. He needs a patient parent who will help build his confidence and not force anything on him. He does not like surprise sudden movements towards him, which has caused him to lash out. He responds well to praise and high value treats, but it has taken him time to warm up to new people and settle into a new environment. Steely is house trained to go on the pee pads, crate trained at night, rides well in a car, loves his chewies, and eats very well. He is great on a leash and will walk by your side. Despite his anxiety, he is good with grooming and tolerates vet visits. He does not like large dogs! He does OK with other dogs his size and smaller, but we think he will be best suited as the only dog in the house. He loves to have all of the attention on him, and will sit in your lap for pets. He can get a little nippy if he feels like you're not paying enough attention. Because of this, Steely cannot go to a home with children and would do best in a home that will continue to work with him and help him be the best boy he can be. Once Steely settles in, recognizes you, and trusts you, he will be your constant companion. To adopt Steely, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, neuter, dental, and all the love you can handle!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 24, 2024, 7:26 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.WallE is a big beautiful 20 pound, 5 year old Pomeranian looking for his perfect home. He is highly trained, loyal, and sweet as can be, BUT that's only with his people. You see WallE wasn't well socialized so new things cause him anxiety that make him bark to warn people he is scared. A home wothout children is a must. We have put WallE on anxiety meds and worked with him on new things and he has improved greatly, but he will need continued work, patience and understanding in his new home. He would love to be an only dog, and it would be best for him to have a home as an only pet. WallE prefers women, but does accept men after some time to adjust. WallE is leash trained, crate trained, house trained, rides well in a car, and healthy. Now all he needs is his happily ever after! To adopt WallE, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation ($250 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, neuter, and all the love you can handle!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 24, 2024, 7:26 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sable is a beautiful 14 year old 12 pound senior girl looking for her happily ever after! She was a loyal companion all her life, but a new girlfriend demanded she be gone, but that's okay because the poor girl desperately needed vet care. Sable is hearing impaired but responds to whistles and finds you with bumps or vibration. She gets excited when she finds you to get her scratches and play. She is also vision impaired, but it doesn't slow her down one bit because she quickly learns the layout of new places. She even does a few steps to get in and out of the yard. Sable is house trained to use pee pads or go outside, accepts a harness and leash, and prefers a home with other dogs. She isn't a fan of grooming so she gets a little sedative pill before any spa days. Sable may be a senior but she is healthy, spry, smart, and playful just looking for a loving family! To adopt Sable, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation ($250 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper, and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, urinalysis, spay, dental, enucleation, and all the love you can handle!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 24, 2024, 7:26 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Kodi is one gorgeous 10 pound, 3 year old Pomeranian looking for his perfect home. You see Kodi hasn't had a good life, there is a history of abuse, being forced to live outside, and then being abandoned so our handsome guy has some baggage. We developed a plan specific to his needs and he has THRIVED with just a little bit of work, patience, and taking our ques from him. This plan MUST BE FOLLOWED WITHOUT QUESTION BY ANY POTENTIAL ADOPTER! With that being said, and excuse us if it comes of wrong, but if you feel you know it all about accommodating a dog with a trauma history, there is no need to apply because we will not risk this poor guy being failed ever again. He needs an adopter that understands each dog has different accommodation needs and different approaches to training, but with that being said, if you listen to and follow the plan, Kodi will be purely perfect for an adult only home, and would love some friendly younger small dog playmates too!. Kodi is leash trained, but will need a fenced yard as strangers applying devices in the first few weeks of adjustment isn't ideal for him while he is learning to trust. He is treat motivated, loves toys, and would enjoy an active lifestyle to keep him happy and healthy. He is pretty well house trained with a regular potty schedule. He is crate trained, but only a plastic carrier crate can be used for him, and crate training MUST continue for him to be successful in a new home. He will need a decompression area just for him in his new home that he will use for the first 3 to 7 days then be used as an escape area for when his area of access is expanded. Kodi does well with other dogs, but cannot live with another strong willed dog, we are talking a dog that runs the show and doesn't back down, because Kodi will butt heads with that dog. Besides that type of personality, he has done awesome with every other type of dog in his foster home. Kodi rides well in a car, does well with a patience, force free groomer, and is truly a remarkable boy! The only problem he will need continued work on is vet visits as he does require a little sedative and muzzle for vetting. He also gets daily gabapentin to curb his mild anxiety which has helped him blossom here in rescue. This medication will need to be continued by any potential adopter with no exceptions. We understand it sounds like a lot, but our plan is super easy to follow, we will be available as a support system and will offer a foster situation for Kodi. He can be picky about people he allows in his circle, but if you are a good person that doesn't get overwhelmed he accepts you immediately as a friend. He will make the right family a perfect addition! To adopt Kodi, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org.
