Story
Mia is a gentle, tender‑hearted girl who has already lived a big life. She was abandoned when she became pregnant, but despite everything, she made the long trip to Minnesota with her nine puppies and raised them with absolute devotion. Now that her babies are safe and thriving, it’s finally her turn to be loved. Mia is a playful spirit once she feels comfortable. She adores toys, especially anything she can chew — nylabones are her favorite, though she sometimes forgets that not everything in the world is a chew toy. She loves chasing tennis balls, even if she has no intention of bringing them back; she’d much rather toss them around herself or zoom around the yard with her dog friends. Around her humans, Mia is shy but incredibly sweet. Her tail spins like a helicopter when she sees the people she trusts, even if she still gets nervous when hands reach toward her. She’ll quietly hop onto the couch for pets and snuggles when she’s ready, and those moments feel like little gifts. Walks are still a bit overwhelming for her, so she’s hoping for a patient family who understands that confidence takes time. With gentle guidance, she’ll continue to blossom. Mia is a polite, quiet girl — except when she’s having a “conversation” with the neighbor dogs, which she does with great enthusiasm. She’s fully housebroken, rides beautifully in the car, and is wonderfully respectful of cats (she mostly pretends they don’t exist). Mia is looking for a calm, loving home that will celebrate her small victories, give her space to grow, and show her that she’ll never be abandoned again. If you have a soft spot for shy dogs with big hearts, Mia will be the sweetest companion you could ever hope for. Story
Hi, I’m Maggie. I’m a 2 year old chihuahua mix! I came to MN from Mexico, where I was found living in a hole inside a rock mountain. When I got to MN my foster mom realized I was limping quite a bit. It was then determined by our vets that I needed a double back knee surgery as I had luxating patella in both my back knees. Don’t worry, my foster momma did all the hard work and I feel so much better now and am like a brand new dog!  I have come a long way in adjusting to indoor family life, and have learned so much!  It will take me a few minutes before I’ll let my guard down, but once I learn you wanna be my friend we will be best friends. I am goofy and will play with other dogs big or small, but it may take me a few days to warm up to them. I’m not a big fan of active young puppies that always want to invade my space.  But I do great with older, mellower dogs or dogs that just leave me alone.  I’m great with cats and have even interacted with a few chickens.  I do have a strong interest in rabbits and will attempt to chase them whenever I see one.  The thrill wears off after about three seconds, and I go back about my business.  Some of my favorite things to do are:  go for car rides, or boat rides, lie in the sun (or under a blanket, if it’s cold out), play with a rubber ball (I can toss it, chase it and catch it all by myself!) and on occasion I like to play wrestling with my foster sibling who is close to my size.  When we hear our foster dad start up the four-wheeler, we both run to it because he lets us hang out in an attached basket and cruise around with him.  It’s really fun!  I also love treat time, and will do anything for a soft treat, like Beggin Strips.  When I am in cuddle mode, I don’t like to share my space with other animals and may growl at them if they disturb my sleep. I love cuddles, I am the most cuddly girl ever.   I would rather curl up and cuddle with you under a blanket all day long.  At night, I sleep with my foster, burrowed deep under the blankets and don’t make a peep until long after everyone else is up. I am kennel trained and do really enjoy hanging in my kennel, but my foster has been letting me free roam all over the house and I’ve been really good.  Most of the time, I just hang out on the couch until it’s time to go outside or grab a snack.  I am officially 99.99% potty trained, although when I go to a new home I might have an accident or two while we learn to communicate with each other.    I will bark at new people coming into the house but will calm down once I notice the other dogs are ok with them. If they are too intrusive or in my face too much at our initial meeting I may growl. I never snap or bite though. I just need some extra time to learn new people are okay!  Anyways do you think you could be my forever home??    Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Meet Zoe, a Chihuahua born approx 3/7/2020. Zoe is a sweet girl who has had a lot of transitions in her life. She can be a little slow to warm up, but once she does, she is very cuddly. She has seemed to attach strongly to the mom of the house and does get anxious when she leaves, but eventually settles down. She’s been alone up to 6 hours, has been free floating around the house, and has not had any accidents or destroyed anything during that time. Zoe is house-trained, and scratches at the door when she needs to be let out. She is not kennel trained. She has been great with our 3.5 year old daughter. Initially she was respectful and a little afraid of our cat, but she has had a few instances of lashing out toward the cat, She has been great with our small dog, and has met other big dogs on leash and has reacted positively. She loves walks, and while she pulls sometimes, she is easily redirected. Zoe is a medium energy level. She loves running off-leash on our acreage, but can also curl up on the couch and be content. In the car Zoe wants to ride on your lap, but also does fine in the kennel during rides. Zoe is treat motivated, playful, and sweet and will make a great family dog for a very lucky family.    Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
