Story
Meet Hopper ❤️‍🔥🐾 Hopper is a 5yr old, 11lb, Rat Terrier/mix. Hopper is a super sweet boy. Hopper is an active fella, that likes to go for walks, likes to run and play with toys, and likes to play with other dogs. Even though Hopper has old fractures on his hind legs, that doesn’t slow him down, he is faster than any other dog here at the rescue and loves to run around and play. Hopper gets along with all dogs of all sizes and ages, but likes to chase chickens. Hopper also loves to be held and loved on. Hopper may not know many commands, but that is ok, he is treat and love motivated and will come running as soon as you call him. Love and affection is what he craves. Hopper is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and up to date on his rabies vaccine. If you are interested in meeting Hopper, please fill out an application at www.broketailrescue.org.

Story
Cosette is about 2 years old and 13 pounds. Cosette earned the nickname “Cozy” because she truly embraces the art of slow mornings and long naps. She never pops out of bed without a full routine of big stretchies and sleepy squinty eyes. She sleeps deeply (with lots of adorable dreaming) and loves resting her chin on your leg.   Her personal motto might be 'sleep hard, play hard' because while she rarely uses her bark (I’ve only heard it during her dreams!), she becomes a happy little noise machine during playtime when her spicier side comes out. She absolutely loves squeaky toys — especially if she can manage to find the squeaker herself.   She is still working on her play manners and can become a little rough and overly nippy when she gets going, so she would do best in a home without young children. She responds well to calm, consistent correction and has already made progress. When very excited, stressed, or overwhelmed, she may want to hump you, but this behavior has *mostly* subsided with gentle verbal commands and as she’s gotten settled in.   Cosette loves other dogs and wants to greet every pup she sees. She would likely thrive in a home with a playful dog friend to help her burn off energy and continue building confidence.   Training-wise, she doesn’t seem to know basic cues like “sit” yet, but she’s attentive and eager to connect. She knows “no,” responds well to it, and has decent recall to kissy noises. She is fully house-trained and has had zero accidents in her foster home.   At her core, Cosette is a sweet, sensitive girl who wants to feel safe and connected. She’s looking for a loving home that will give her clear guidance, plenty of squeaky toys, lots of ear scratches, hopefully a pup friend to play with, and most importantly, a cozy spot right next to her person. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Cosette is $300. If you are interested in adopting Cosette, please complete our online adoption application at https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/ . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. Story
Bean is a wonderful 7 year-old, 17 lb terrier mix. Bean is a classic terrier, with a big personality in a little body! He is energetic and loves hiking, playing with toys, and is very smart. At the end of the day, Bean loves cuddling and making blanket forts. Bean is an intelligent guy. He knows all basic commands, and even knows how to dance on command. He is food motivated, crate trained, potty trained, and learns new things quickly. Even though Bean has plenty of energy, he is pretty low maintenance and does well around an hour of exercise per day. Bean also does well left alone at home. Bean does well with other dogs, and seems indifferent around cats. Bean would do best in a home without children under 12 years old.

Story
Rex is a 4-year-old wire-haired terrier mix who is neutered and up to date on all vaccines. He’s one of the resilient dogs rescued from a backyard hoarding case in California’s Central Valley — and he is proving every day just how much heart he has. Since settling into foster care, Rex has been making steady, meaningful progress. He can be a bit anxious, but he’s learning that the world is safe and predictable. With a regular routine, he’s adjusting well and growing more comfortable each day. He’s starting to truly enjoy his daily walks and now allows his foster family to put his collar on without much trouble — a small victory that speaks volumes. After one early accident in the house, he’s been doing great with going potty outside and seems to understand that’s where “business” is done (and he genuinely enjoys his outdoor time!). Rex gets along very well with his foster sibling, Bori. He follows her around and clearly finds comfort in another confident dog, so he may thrive in a home with a balanced canine companion. He does have a bit of a competitive streak when it comes to attention and treats, so his foster family has been working with him on building trust and positive habits. With continued structure and guidance, Rex will continue to blossom. Beneath it all, Rex is a sensitive, loyal terrier who just needed someone to show him what stability feels like. He’s already come so far. If you’re patient, experienced, and ready to help a deserving dog continue his journey, Rex will reward you with deep loyalty and companionship.
