Story
Hope has spent enough of her life being somebody’s mama. We think it’s time she finally got to be somebody’s baby. Hope is only about 3 years old, but when we first met her, her body told a much older story. She had clearly been bred over and over again, and she arrived looking like a dog who had spent far too much of her young life giving everything to everyone else. We met her during one of our shelter pulls. Her kennel sat right beside the small yards where we were evaluating dogs all day, which meant constant barking, movement, strangers, and dogs coming and going. Hope never made a fuss. She simply watched us, wagged her tail, and waited patiently for someone to come over. When we did, she pressed herself against the kennel gate so hard trying to get closer that her sweet little face practically smooshed through the bars. That calm, loving nature has only become more obvious with time. Hope is incredibly smart, knows basic commands, listens well, and has a wonderfully patient temperament. She loves people, gets along beautifully with other dogs, and carries herself with the kind of steady confidence that makes her easy to have around. And now, she is healthy, spayed, at a good weight, and happy. The dog we first met has blossomed. Hope no longer looks like a dog who has been used up by life. She looks like a dog who is ready to live it. She enjoys affection, walks, companionship, and being included. She is sweet without being frantic, playful without being wild, and affectionate without demanding every second of your attention. She is simply a really lovely dog. Yes, Hope is a bully mix, and we know those dogs are often overlooked. But anyone who spends time with her quickly sees what the label misses: she is calm, intelligent, social, patient, and deeply loving. She has already done the hard part. She survived, healed, gained weight, got healthy, and learned that life can be good. Now she needs the part that matters most: a foster or forever home where she can finally belong. Scout’s Honor covers all expenses associated with fostering as needed. If you have been considering fostering or adopting, Hope is ready. It is time for Mama Hope to stop being everybody’s mama and finally be somebody’s baby. Apply at www.scoutshonor.org.September 15, 2026, 9:36 pm

I am one tall glass of water – handsome and with a great smile. I have lots of energy, so I’d be a great walking partner or jogging buddy. I am friendly but not sure about those fuzzy bundles called cats. If you have a dog, let’s organize a meeting. I can be particular about my roomies. Mostly, I will be a loyal companion and by your side as much as possible.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. She is Xena The Warrior PrincessXena was born approximately July 15, 2021.  She is a GORGEOUS Border Collie/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix or Tri-Colored Rhodesian Ridgeback.  Her personality is true to her breed! Xena's foster mom and dad have 3 other dogs that she likes to play with and share toys with, but she has also learned to be by herself.  Her foster mom says she needs an active family with another dog or multiple dogs. Xena needs room to run to get her energy out.  She likes going for long walks and exploring the wilderness. Xena sleeps with her foster mom and dad in bed with all the other dogs. It gets a bit crowded but she does love sleeping with the pack. This makes her feel safe. Xena does not like to be in a kennel or crate.  So, a family that is at home would be ideal. She likes eating ice cubes!  Xena says 'When mom gives me fresh water in a bowl she puts in extra ice cubes for me. That makes me feel special and loved.'  Xena loves riding in a vehicle and knows not to jump around and act like a baby. She can walk on a leash pretty well as long as she has her harness on; Xena is not a fan of collars. She also knows a few commands like “stay”, “no” and “potty”.Xena will bark at strangers until she gets to know them.  Her foster dad has taught her to fetch.  She loves chasing the ball and bringing it back, it’s the letting it go part that she has a hard time with BECAUSE she also loves to play tug of war.  Xena is also a fan of the Laser Light.  She thinks they are fascinating!Xena is Special Needs because if and when she gets too excited she has seizures.  The vet attributes this to a blow to the head as a puppy.  Therefore, she needs to be in a home that understands how to deal with occasional seizures.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 12, 2026, 7:32 pm

Story
Meet Axel — proof that three legs are more than enough for a whole lot of living. Axel is a 4-year-old, 53-pound Rhodesian Ridgeback/Black Mouth Cur mix with a joyful personality, a big heart, and an impressive talent for cuddling. When Axel was first found, he was badly injured and needed urgent medical care. Ultimately, one of his front legs had to be amputated. But Axel recovered beautifully, adapted quickly, and never seemed interested in letting one missing leg slow him down. Today, Axel is fully healed and busy doing all the normal dog things he loves — running, playing, hanging out with canine friends, and curling up as close to his people as possible. He’s also already got some very important house-dog skills under his belt: Axel is potty trained, crate trained, and dog-friendly. He enjoys the company of other dogs and could be a wonderful fit for a home with a canine companion. But as much as Axel enjoys his dog friends, his people are where his heart really is. He’s affectionate, loving, and happiest when he can be close to the humans he trusts. If you’re looking for a dog who will happily join you for some fun and then settle in for a serious snuggle session, Axel may be exactly what you’ve been looking for. His three legs are certainly part of his story — but they’re nowhere near the most interesting thing about him. Axel is simply a happy, resilient, loving dog who is ready to stop being someone’s rescue story and start being someone’s family. Ready to meet Axel? Apply to adopt him at htxdogrescue.org!
