Story
Gigi is a very special dog! She is a 1.5 years old, spayed, vaccinated, and docked purebred Rottweiler. She is special needs due to a rare autoimmune condition. She was found as a stray in Modesto in poor health. The shelter did not know what was wrong with her, but they knew she needed more help than they could give, so she was set to be euthanized. Thankfully, our rescue stepped in, took her into our care, and got her the help she needs. Our vet diagnosed her with entropion (inverted eyelashes) causing almost total blindness and severe cranial muscle atrophy caused by a rare autoimmune condition called Masticatory Muscle Myositis (MMM) that was left untreated for the first year of her life. After thousands of dollars in treatments and multiple surgeries including the insertion of permanent contacts into her eyes, Gigi can finally see! She has made a full recovery. Gigi is still special needs. She cannot open her mouth more than an inch high, so she is at an increased risk of choking and needs to be monitored with toys. She also has been isolated from the outside world for months while in recovery, so she is still learning about the world around her and how to socialize with new dogs. She is currently dog selective, she gets along with friendly dogs that respect her space. She has not been tested with children or cats.

Story
Max is the victim of a bad breakup. His father walked away from him and left him with his partner. Max is a good dog who just needs love and attention. Max is 90 lbs and it’s difficult for his mom who is 74 to provide him the attention and exercise he needs. She has almost fallen when walking him. He is mostly an outside dog but comes in at night to sleep. He loves to play ball and loves to be petted. He has never been around small children.

Story
Waffles is a wonderful girl. We rescued her as a puppy and she is about 1 and a half years old. She loves to play, run, go for walks and heading to the dog park to play with other dogs. She is formally trained (went to a professional dog trainer when she was about 6 months old). She comes to her name understands commands: sit, down, place, here. Unfortunately our 2 house cats have a hard time with Waffles and we have to find a new, loving home for her. She is a fun, energetic, beautiful young dog and it is very sad for our family to have to rehome her. I am happy to answer any further questions you may have.

Story
Watch out, world - here comes Cheerio! Cheerio is estimated to be just under 2 years old. She is a ball of fun who is eager to go on adventures and make new friends. She is the cuddle master and thinks that naps are way better with a buddy. She is an active girl looking for a family who can keep up with her puppy antics. Cheerio weighs about 64lbs and is fully grown. Cheerio came to us from an overcrowded Central California animal shelter. She was found as a stray, and no family ever came for her. She was at the shelter for about a month and was then placed on the euthanasia list simply due to a lack of space. We quickly were able to find a foster home to take her in, and she has been settling in well since coming to us. Cheerio is a total lovebug who thrives on human attention. She can be a tad cautious when she meets a new person, but she is quick to warm up and cover your face in kisses. She has a hilariously goofy personality, and there are never any dull moments when she is around. She loves to play fetch! Cheerio has mastered a few basic manners, like sit and down, but would benefit from some continued training to help her be the best girl she can be. Cheerio has done well living with other large dogs and could be a great wrestling buddy for another playful pup. She also wouldn't mind being your one and only - more treats and cuddles for her! Cheerio thinks kitties are fun to chase, but with a slow introduction and proper supervision, she has learned to live with dog-savvy cats. Cheerio could be a great addition to a family with kids 10 years and older. Cheerio has been doing great with her housetraining. Cheerio has done well being left alone in her crate for short periods, but very much prefers it when one of her foster family members can work from home. She is happy to sleep through the night in her crate. Cheerio is such a fantastic dog, and she can't wait to meet her fur-ever family! If you think that might be you, submit an application today!   Cheerio's adoption fee is $300.   Apply to adopt here!  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/   Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org. For more general questions, please see our website at www.yolospca.org. July 19, 2026, 2:58 pm
