Story
Meet Misty! A spirited almost four-year-old Rottweiler/Labrador Retriever/Catahoula Leopard Dog mix currently living in Blackwood, NJ, whose essence is a golden burst of affection wrapped in a 90-pound frame of playful energy and heart-melting cuddles. Misty is the kind of dog who makes herself known, not just by her stunning golden brown coat with white accents, but with the way she leans in close to rest her head on your chest, or showers you with kisses when you’ve had a long day. She’s a sweet-natured, medium-energy girl who absolutely adores people, especially kids, and thrives in environments filled with love, consistency, and room to stretch her long legs. Her favorite toy? A squeaky octopus that brings out her goofy, playful side every time! This affectionate girl is crate trained, house-trained, spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on her vaccinations. She knows commands like “come,” “sit,” “lay,” and “stay”, though like any independent soul, she occasionally needs a reminder to follow through. She’s done well with short periods alone, especially when left with a chew bone (though she’s been known to redecorate with shredded paper if boredom strikes!). Misty has done great at doggie daycare, where structured settings and supervised play make her feel at ease. However, Misty must be the only animal in her home. She has severe resource guarding issues, particularly around food, and has had altercations with other dogs in the home. While she’s friendly with dogs in controlled environments, she cannot share living space or food areas with other animals. Misty shines with positive reinforcement and gentle, firm guidance. She responds beautifully to a calm but confident voice, especially when her excitement bubbles over into enthusiastic greetings (yes, she's a jumper, because she just can't wait to say hello!). Misty is ready for a home with a spacious fenced yard and a patient, loving caregiver who understands her quirks and sees the loyal, affectionate companion beneath. Ready to make room on your couch, and in your heart, for Misty? To learn more about welcoming Misty into your family, reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com!

Story
Meet Queen, a 3-month-old Rottweiler mix who was dealt the luckiest of hands when she and her brother King were surrendered to the rescue.  Thanks to a foster willing to step up for them, Queen and King have spent their formative weeks in a real home, learning to love and be loved. Queen is sweet as can be and is sure to be the queen of hearts in her forever home. She loves sitting on the couch and getting belly rubs from adults and children. She loves to play with other dogs as well, but doesn’t play rough. She’s overall an easygoing puppy with great promise.  According to a breed test done on King, Queen and King are half Rottweiler and the other half is made up of 16 different breeds! Woah! The second highest percentage is Labrador retriever, but they’ve also got small percentages of some fluffy dogs like golden retriever and husky, which explains King’s super soft, longer coat. Queen is also extremely soft!  Queen and King are currently working on potty training and crate training, but their forever homes will need to continue the work to perfect their skills. They are both very intelligent and eager to please their humans. Story
Meet Blitz! Blitz is a 6-year-old, 55 pound working dog. He's smart, food driven, and loves playing fetch. He sleeps through the night in his crate, is house trained, loves learning new tricks, and can be good with other dogs if they allow him to calmly greet them. Blitz would do best in an adult only home, with an owner who is active. He loves going on walks, runs, hikes and car rides. He can be wary of new people, and will need someone to continue to train him on confidence building. Blitz will walk in a heel when requested, he is a quick learner, super food motivated, and will LOVE his owners immensely. Update from foster Mom: With his people, he is the BEST dog, and he's good with dogs if they aren't pushy. He's a quick learner, a cuddle bug, and house-trained. He LOVES hiking with me in the woods, has an amazing recall, and loves playing fetch. I believe he would be the best dog on a farm, where he isn't forced to interact with strangers. I strongly believe that when he is off leash, he will choose to avoid strangers as opposed to confronting them. So why has this amazing already trained pup been with us so long? He doesn't do too well with strangers. We've gotten people interested, but seemingly they seem to ignore his "wary of new people" bit in his bio, and those who have applied want a friendly dog who is ok with meeting everyone. Are you someone who will allow Blitz to become comfortable with strangers slowly? Maybe an active outdoorsy introvert? Or okay with leaving your pup at home while you go out to be extroverted? Blitz is AMAZING. He just needs someone who understands he isn't too fond of people until he feels safe with them. This means not allowing others to approach him on walks and when out and about. No trips to Home Depot or TJ Maxx for this guy. He only needs outings with his new parents! P.S. This means he will take time to warm up to you too! If you are interested in finding out more about Blitz, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO-A-67 Blitz is being fostered in Grafton. The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
