Story
Meet Ava!
Ava is a beautiful, submissive Rottweiler who’s learning what love and kindness truly feel like. Rescued from a rural shelter in central Texas, Ava spent her early years being used for breeding and living in a garage. She came from a neglectful situation—shockingly, at the hands of a former police officer—and is now beginning her journey toward healing.
Now in foster care on Martha’s Vineyard, Ava is truly coming out of her shell. She loves getting the zoomies and finally getting to be a happy, loved girl. She’s doing great with potty training—accidents are few and far between—and she’s thriving in a home environment.
Ava adores her foster siblings, including two Rottweilers and a tiny Chihuahua, and she’s incredibly gentle with all of them. She’s shown no prey drive toward the chickens or the farm animals around her, making her a great fit for a rural or farm setting.
Despite her past, Ava is sweet and eager to please. She’s great with dogs of all sizes and has done well with cats. She’s very submissive, with no signs of fear aggression—just a kind soul who needs patience and encouragement as she continues learning to trust.
Ava is crate trained and will do best in a calm, reassuring home where she can continue to build on her confidence, feel safe, and enjoy her happy, silly zoomie time.
If you believe in second chances and have room in your heart for a gentle, deserving girl—apply for Ava today.

PLEASE READ:
• If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this.
• All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date.
• Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments.
Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well.
Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation.
