This lovely senior gal has plenty of love to give and is looking for a calm place to spend her golden years. We're still getting to know her, but one thing is clear - Kayden has a gentle spirit and just needs a little time to feel comfortable with new people and situations. She arrived underweight, and we're helping her get back on track! Kayden can be particular about how she's handled, so a patient family with children 10 and older would be ideal. We're not yet sure how she feels about other dogs, cats, or whether she's potty trained. What we do know is that Kayden will thrive in a quiet, low-traffic home where her world can stay small as she decompresses at her own pace. DOB: August 2018Weight: 27 lbsDisposition: Confident, Inquisitive, PlayfulEthel was rescued on 5th August 2020 during a slaughterhouse closure together with another 14 dogs conducted by FOUR PAWS in Kampong Thom, Cambodia. After rescue she was housed at Animal Rescue Cambodia in Phnom Penh until she flew stateside at the beginning of December 2020 when she joined us at The Barking Lot.Ethel has the cutest little ears there ever was and their a dead giveaway for her Shar Pei roots! This lovely girl used to be timid around other dogs, especially at dinner time. Like many of our rescues who have been through traumatic experiences, she gets defensive about her food. The rest of the time, Ethel can be coy, but she is learning to trust again and is really relaxed with her caretakers. Ethel has a lovely, inquisitive nature and is building trust with new people daily. She enjoys handling and cuddles from people she trusts and is treat motivated. I have been in a wonderful Foster Home for over 5 months! My Foster Mom keeps telling me to be patient and stay hopeful because there is some family out there looking for a gal like me! So I'm trying really hard to be patient. I am a beautiful and very sweet 9 year old with a calm but also playful attitude about life.I would love to have a large, fenced-in yard where I can do zoomies and chase squirrels and lizards. I really don't know what I'd do with them if I caught them, but the chase sure is fun! I can also be chill and relax with you in the house or the yard.I am good in the house and haven't had any accidents. I sleep a lot after my zoomies and chasing critters but I am quiet all night.I think I would be a good girl with another pup to play with. I do have a Foster brother and we play a lot! Oh, his name is Jumbo! My Foster Mom doesn't know if I would be cat friendly or not. I also haven't been introduced to kids, as far as she knows. I think I'd love having, maybe someone over 10, to play with as long as they can respect me.My Foster Mom has been working a lot on leash training but I might need more of that.I also stress out on car rides but if we take short trips a few times I think I'd probably enjoy the after awhile. For a decade, Robby endured a life of neglect, living in a dilapidated dog house barely fit for a rat, positioned just outside the home of his owner. Stripped of the basic necessities of care and nourishment, he had no choice but to resort to scavenging for food, begging passersby for scraps and water, all while defending himself from the other street dogs that roamed freely. This life of hardship took its toll on his health, leaving him riddled with infections and suffering from painful rotten and broken teeth due to his desperate attempts to eat whatever he could find. Fortunately, a glimmer of hope arose when concerned individuals turned to me for assistance. I understood that Robby’s situation was a call for compassion that could not be ignored. Upon his rescue, it became clear just how much love and care Robby had been deprived of over the years. With proper veterinary care and rehabilitation, this gentle soul began to regain his health, blossoming into a vibrant and affectionate companion. Robby’s journey is of survival and resilience!! When kindness finally entered his life after years of starvation and loneliness his soul came to life. However, the scars of his past linger on. Although Robby is now a sweet dog who adores human company, the years of ill treatment have left him with food and treat aggression. These behaviors are not indicative of his character but rather a reflection of his survival instincts honed in an unforgiving environment. We continue to help Robby by overcoming his feeling of being food deprived with training and he's doing so much better. We are committed to Robby!!! It’s believed that the best path for Robby is to live as an only dog, allowing him to bask in the one thing he has longed for throughout his tumultuous life—human kindness and love.
