Story
Negroni entered Riverside Shelter as a stray, and sadly, she wasn't claimed. We welcomed her as a Frosted Face on March 24th. Negroni is estimated to be 9 years old and weighs 47 lbs. She is super sweet and knows commands including SIT and SHAKE. Volunteers note that Negroni is such a happy girl and appreciates every pet she gets. We can only imagine the joy a loving forever home would bring this gentle sweetheart! Negroni went on a two-week Frosted Fling to enjoy lots of loving care in the comfort of a home, while we learned more about her. We received a great report from her foster mom: "Negroni settled in quickly after coming home with us. She has lots of spunk and energy, but at her core she’s a total cuddle bug who just wants to be close to her people. She’s naturally curious and enjoys exploring—especially anywhere she suspects treats might be hiding (like the counter!). That said, any minor mischief is more than made up for by her intelligence and her clear desire to please. She responds very well to guidance and direction, and she quickly became an excellent house guest. As you’d expect, Negroni loves her walks! Her leash manners are a work in progress. She does much better on a harness than a collar, and when there are no distractions, she walks beautifully with no pulling. When she sees people or other dogs, she can get excited and pull—she’s not reactive or aggressive, she just really wants to say hello. She will lunge at bikes, so some extra awareness is needed there. Negroni rides well in the car—she may get a little excited at first, but settles in quickly and seems to enjoy the ride. She has shown absolutely no signs of aggression, even around food or treats. She may bark a bit when watching the world from the window, but it’s driven by curiosity and a desire to engage, not defensiveness. She’s met a few neighborhood dogs and has been consistently friendly and eager to play. Most of all, Negroni loves being near her people and will happily follow us from room to room whenever she can. At night, she settles nicely into her bed in our bedroom. Negroni is a smart, affectionate, and lively companion who will thrive in a home ready to give her plenty of love, structure, and attention." Story
Boxer mix Female 11 months 26 pounds Coco – Affectionate, Playful Boxer Mix Looking for Her Forever Family Coco is an 11-month-old, 26-lb boxer mix with a big heart and playful spirit. She loves toys, cuddles, and being close to her people. She’s currently being fostered after being rescued from a hospital parking lot in Tijuana, where she was left tied up when her former owner became ill and could no longer care for her. For several days, Coco waited there—gentle, hopeful, and grateful for every bit of attention she received. After getting to know her and seeing how loving she was, we couldn’t leave her behind. Coco was taken to a veterinarian for a full health check, vaccinations, microchipping, and has been thriving in foster care ever since. Coco adores people and bonds quickly. She’s done wonderfully with adults and young children and greets everyone she meets with enthusiasm and affection. She also gets along very well with other dogs and would be especially happy in a home with a canine sibling or people who enjoy playtime, walks, and interactive companionship. She is house-trained, knows to wait to go outside, and is currently learning leash manners. Like many young dogs, she’s still polishing those skills, but she’s eager to learn and responds well to guidance. Coco loves toys—especially chew toys—and while she can entertain herself, her favorite thing is being part of whatever her people are doing. She’s equally happy playing or curling up close for cuddles. Coco is energetic in the best way: playful, curious, and full of joy. She would do well in a home that can provide regular exercise, mental stimulation, and engagement. An apartment can absolutely work for her with an adopter who enjoys getting out for walks, playtime, or other activities to help her burn off her puppy energy. She is healthy, appears to have been well cared for earlier in life, and has no known medical issues. Coco will be spayed prior to adoption. Coco is currently being fostered while we thoughtfully search for the right forever home where she can truly thrive. She is a healthy, loving, and joyful young dog with an incredible capacity for affection and companionship. If you’re looking for a playful, people-loving pup who will bring energy, warmth, and devotion into your life, Coco is ready to meet you and become a cherished part of your family. Please contact Thomas at 619-751-9342 for any adoption inquiries. *PLEASE NOTE: This animal is listed as a courtesy for another organization or private party. Story
Meet Riko! At just under two years old, Riko has already figured out this three favorite things in life: yummy snacks, fun toys, and lots of cuddles. Riko is a playful guy who loves a good game of tug-of-war or fetch, but is also perfectly happy entertaining himself with his favorite toys. And when playtime is over? Riko is all about the snuggles. He loves curling up in your lap and settling into your arms for a nap. This sweet boy is very food motivated which makes him eager to learn! He already knows how to sit, lay down, and shake, and he's working hard on mastering "roll over". Give him a tasty snack and he'll be your best friend in no time. Riko is looking for a home where he can truly be part of the family. He doesn't want to be left on the sidelines- he wants to hand out while you make dinner, tag along for a spontaneous Starbucks run, "help" you in the yard, and generally be involved in whatever you're doing. His ideal family will appreciate having a fun, affectionate little sidekick by their side. Riko is still working on his potty training, but he has made great progress in his foster home. He also enjoys playing with the other dogs in his foster home. Riko's play style is pretty physical and energetic, so he needs playmates who can match his vibes. If you're looking for a playful, cuddly, snack-loving companion who wants nothing more than to be part of your world, Riko might just be your guy!
