We named him Spalding because his face looks like a catcher's mitt! He is so much fun and loves the attention. You can squish his face all day long and he will be your best friend. Spalding loves his walks. He weighs 55 pounds, and is pretty easy to be around. He does well with other dogs and initiates play with my female Staffordshire terrier. He can definitely benefit from leadership and training. Overall, he is a great dog that will bring you so much joy! All dogs in our program are up to date on all their shots, spayed or neutered, and micro chipped. Our dogs are in foster homes which enables us to learn more about them in a home environment. We do not place dogs on a first come first serve basis, but rather to the home best suited for them. An application, adoption fee and contract are required. Meet Dirk – A Resilient and Loving Companion Dirk is a 5.5-year-old Chinese Shar-Pei mix who recently came to us from the Lancaster Animal Shelter. He weighs around 44 lbs and is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. Despite a tough past—Dirk was injured in a kennel incident with another dog—he remains incredibly sweet and friendly. His right side was shaved for treatment, but he's healing well and his spirit is stronger than ever. She is afraid of the bath, the vacuum, and pees when she is scared. Her life has been very safe and comfortable and she still hasn’t broken these habits. However, she adores children and is a great guard dog. She listens to basic commands including “sit” and “stop barking”. She is good with dogs who are calm and not territorial.

Barkley is a fantastic puppy. I haven’t seen any signs of fear toward people—in fact, I see very little fear at all. He seems to be a stable, confident, and balanced little guy. I haven’t noticed any separation anxiety outside the normal scope for a young puppy. He may whine a bit in the crate, but he settles quickly and recovers well. It’s not excessive and well within what’s typical for his age. Barkley is very patient during training. He follows a lure beautifully, and it’s easy to shape new behaviors with him. We’re currently working on marker words and leash skills, and he’s picking up the concepts quickly. This is going to be an easy dog to train. He’s also very neutral to loud noises and environmental stimuli, which is a great trait in a puppy. His energy level is mild—not over the top—which makes him a really enjoyable companion.
