Story
Tiny started out a little timid but has blossomed into a snort snuffelapagus! He was found as a stray in the park, and described as friendly, scared and playful. While with us, he was a bit overwhelmed in the kennels (understandably!) but was moved into an office and has shown himself to be a goofball. He loves to play and will do a not so graceful leap when you toss a toy for him. He's curious and will sniff out a snack wherever you have it, but is a little picky so often spits it out, he just wants to know he CAN have it if he wants it. He will sit but it will take a minute as he's very easily distracted. He's young and will need some training, as he can get a little excited and will jump up enthusiastically, but for that reason we think he'd be best set up for success in a home with older kids. When left alone in the office he is not destructive, and he also walks nicely on a leash (though we can't guarantee it's in a straight line!). Behavioral notes; 5/5 went into my office, he had been in there for a night and didn't know me, but sniffed me and then pounced on the dog bed, and came back up to me wagging his whole body. During the day he was good, he solicited pets with me and I pet him all over without issue though his ears obviously bother him as he yelped when I tried to itch them for him. A female staffer came into my office, and he try to hump her leg. I told him no and he tried to hump her leg from behind (as though I wouldn't see him or something). He didn't really respond to no, but I pushed him off and he tried again a few times. He was determined, but would distract for a minute or two when I called him over with a toy. Volunteer noted 5/3 Tiny Big Brown was easy to leash and remove from his kennel. He looks to be in pretty good shape - healthy weight and a nice coat. He spent most of our outside time sniffing around the yard. I jokingly said to another volunteer that if I didn't know better I'd say he was part bloodhound rather than part shar pei. He wasn't interested in balls, toys, or treats. Each dog handles being in a shelter differently, and I think he is still adjusting. TBB didn't solicit pets from me, but eventually he did sit so I was able to pet him, and he was fine accepting the pets. No issue returning him to kennel.

Story
Tank & Chrissy are gorgeous, gentle and very sweet purebred shar peis who were given up to the rescue after their owner in rural Mississippi passed away. They are just wonderful dogs, friendly and loving and very bonded. We would love for them to be adopted together. Tank and Chrissy are not siblings, their owner purchased them from a breeder with the intent to breed and then sell puppies. Chrissy had one litter and then her owner passed away. Wag spayed and neutered Tank and Chrissy once they came to the rescue, Wags also paid for necessary eye surgery for both dogs and they have recovered well. Unfortunately, they are both heartworm positive, but have a mild cases and are being treated. They will be two years old this summer. We have decided to list them now to see if we can find a potential adopter who is willing to adopt them together and either wait for them to finish their heartworm treatment or even adopt them and continue the treatment on their own. They really are extremely easy and just the nicest dogs and deserve a loving home of their own.   At the rescue Tank and Chrissy live with other dogs and are friendly to kids and are well socialized. They love to play together, adore toys and bones and are both major snuggle bugs. We have not listed an adoption fee for Tank and Chrissy—their vet bills have been into the thousands between the eye surgery, spay, neuter, and heartworm treatment, and we are not expecting that to be reimbursed but would like to discuss the fee with any potential adopters. Wags is a struggling 501(c) 3  where one woman cares for 150 dogs in a small town in Mississippi.   For more information on Tank & Chrissy please email mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com     May 7, 2024, 7:14 pm

Story
Mynx is smart, reserved, and well.....snooty. We mean that literally. Look at her big shar pei snoot!! She's a little slow to warm up, so she'll need a few extra minutes to show you how loving she can be. Mynx knows commands, and, I swear, she can read my mind. She seems to pick up on what I want her to do. She was able to conquer ever apparatus in the yard. (A-frame, hoop, teeter- totter, and weave poles) If you have been wanting a psychic sidekick, Mynx is your girl!
