Now that he's healthy and feeling good, he's developed opinions about just about everything, and if something isn't going his way, expect a soundtrack of grumbles and barks to go along with it (especially at bath time!). He's not trying to be difficult-he's just a very expressive guy who hasn't quite learned when to keep those thoughts to himself. He can also get a little carried away when he's excited. Barkley is a jumper, a wiggle machine, and a full-body greeter when he sees his people. If he gets overstimulated, he may mouth at you-not bite, just an overenthusiastic way of interacting that he'll need help learning to tone down. He's going to need structure, consistency, and someone committed to continuing his training so he can channel all that energy in better ways. But there's another side to Barkley, too. Underneath the cranky commentary and big reactions is a dog who really loves his people. He has absolutely no concept of personal space and will happily climb right into your lap-or directly on top of you-just to be close. It's not graceful, but it's very sincere. His fosters have jokingly said that "his love is aggressive" and they "can't tell if he's brilliant or a complete knucklehead".Barkley didn't have an easy start. He came into the shelter emaciated and weak, but thanks to time in foster care, he's now strong, healthy, and ready for a fresh start. Through it all, he's shown how smart he is and how much he wants to please. With the right guidance, he has all the tools to become a fantastic companion. He does well with most dogs and has even shown impressive patience with his foster's very cranky cat, who regularly slaps him just for existing nearby. Barkley takes it all in stride. He's not a "plug and play" dog-he's a work in progress with a big personality and big feelings-but for someone willing to put in the time, Barkley is going to be a deeply loyal, endlessly entertaining, and very loving companion.I need someone who understands I am strong and still need ongoing training support but I am a super awesome doggo - won't you let me show you?https://youtube.com/shorts/CAP7FkzpX8EBarkley's adoption fee is $250 .
