Story
Location: Plymouth, MN Frankie is a friendly, fun boy who brings equal parts silliness and sweetness to every day. He loves his toys, backyard zoomies, peanut‑butter puzzles, and curling up on your lap like he’s convinced he’s a much smaller dog. He’s mostly potty trained, knows “sit,” is learning his leash manners, and is happy snoozing on his pillow—though he may sneak into bed for a midnight cuddle. With his playful energy, gentle nature, and eagerness to please, Frankie will thrive in a home that enjoys walks, adventures, and a lovable companion who’s always ready to be part of the family. --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org). Story
Location: Minneapolis, MN Meet Jillian (a.k.a. Junie)! If you are looking for a pup with a ton of personality and a lot of love, then Jillian is your girl. With big amber eyes and a uniquely painted coat, Jillian is a little showstopper. She loves all humans she meets and is a huge sweetheart, but does need continued boundary work as she thinks the best way to let others know she is a fan is to get right up into their personal space! While she is smart and has picked up on cues and commands very quickly, ongoing training is still needed. Jillian is now crate trained and has done well being crated for longer periods of time while her foster is at work. When crated, she tends to do better in a high-traffic area so she can observe what is going on around her and not miss out. The only time she cries anymore when crated is because she has a serious case of FOMO and just wants to join in the fun. While Jillian has not been left alone in the house outside the crate for long periods of time, during shorter bouts, she has done really well and usually just ends up lounging in the living room or sunroom. Jillian is potty-trained and does very well with potty prompts once outside. She did clear our 3-foot fence at one point and had a nice little run in our neighbor’s yard so is currently on a lead even with a fenced-in backyard. As an almost 2-year-old, Jillian still has a lot of youthful energy and looks forward to going for her walk first thing in the morning. And while she has made a lot of progress over the last few months, Jillian does have a high prey drive and exhibits some excitable reactivity as a result. Jillian is normally taken on a couple walks a day to work on her leash skills and she is catching on really quickly - we are learning to “leave it”, “wait”, and “eyes” (when needing her attention); she tends to crowd and pull on the leash so we are also working on side-by-side walking and pressure commands with the leash. She also still struggles with off-leash recall but with continued patience and consistency, will no doubt continue to improve. Overall, she would greatly benefit from working with a trainer as it appears that most things are still very new to her. While Jillian initially did well with the resident dog, more recently, she seems to be struggling to read different social cues and has shown some aggressive reactivity. As a result, we have been keeping her on a lead or in the crate as a precaution when both dogs are in a shared space in the house. Since Jillian was found as a stray, it is hard to know her history with other dogs; she does express high interest in playing with other dogs but will require high levels of monitoring. In just a short amount of time, Jillian has learned both the verbal and nonverbal signals for “sit”, “wait”, “hands in”, “stay” and “lie down”. She transports well and loves her weekly outdoor adventures at Fort Snelling. Overall, Jillian's ideal home is with an active family or person who is patient, does not have any other pets, is in a house (she does have a heavy bark!) with a high fenced-in yard. If you are ready for a lively spirit, funny personality, and unconditional companionship - look no further than Jillian! --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org).
