Story
Pilot is a handsome 2-year-old Shepherd mix weighing in at about 80 pounds of love, loyalty, and personality. This big guy may look tough, but with his people, he's an affectionate goofball who doesn't seem to realize just how large he is. Whether he's tossing his toys in the air, carrying sticks around the yard like prized treasures, or greeting his favorite humans with happy "roo-roo" noises and full-body wiggles, Pilot has a way of making everyone smile.Pilot is fully house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside by whining or heading to the door. He sleeps through the night without issue and does well when left in his own room while his family is away. While crates aren't a good fit for him due to anxiety, he has proven to be respectful and non-destructive when given a comfortable space of his own. This smart boy enjoys daily walks, playing fetch, running around the yard, snuggling with his people, and earning tasty treats. He has a moderate energy level and would thrive with an adopter who can provide regular exercise and enrichment. A securely fenced yard is ideal so he can safely stretch his legs and explore.Pilot currently lives successfully with two large-breed dogs. He can be selective of dogs that he is accepting of, so introductions to new dogs should be done slowly, intentionally, and with great care. He has also lived with cats and can coexist peacefully once he gets to know them. New cats are very interesting to him, but he responds appropriately to their boundaries and corrections.Pilot's story has shaped who he is today. He came into rescue as a young puppy from an abandonment case and has experienced multiple home transitions throughout his life. Because of this, he forms deep bonds with his people and looks to them for comfort and security. What Pilot wants most is a stable, committed family where he can finally feel at home forever.Potential adopters should know that Pilot is very protective of his home and yard. He has a bite history involving both dogs and humans, though his interactions with people have been warning bites that did not break skin. He is not a dog who will welcome unfamiliar visitors into his space right away, and he will need experienced adopters who understand management, structure, and proper introductions. For this reason, we recommend a home with adults or older teens and adopters who are willing to continue helping Pilot build confidence and maintain clear boundaries. In return, Pilot offers unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and the kind of companionship that only comes from a dog who truly loves his people. If you're looking for a devoted best friend and have the experience and commitment to help him succeed, Pilot may be the perfect addition to your family. If you are interested in Pilot, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Story
Maxx is a 2-year-old Shepherd with a big body, soft heart, and just a touch of lovable chaos. At nearly 100 pounds, he’s truly a gentle giant who doesn’t quite realize his own size. He loves his belly rubs and will melt down at your feet to ask for one.Maxx is also a local celebrity and destined for the silver screen. Recently he was on WCCO with our Executive Director Kerry D'Amato https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/video/maxx-is-roughly-95-pounds-of-pure-love-looking-for-a-forever-home/#xMaxx is fully house trained but not a fan of being crated (especially with the door closed). He does well having free roam of the home and settles nicely when he feels safe. He also does great in the car! He’s incredibly people-focused, eager to please, and already showing off his smarts with commands like sit, shake, lay down, stay, come, and even “bang.”Maxx is curious but doesn't have a lot of experience with other dogs and cats, so he will do great with slow introductions. He cannot live in homes with young kids (under 13) simply due to his size — he could easily knock little ones over without meaning to. Older, dog-savvy kids would be a better match. This boy needs an active home. He has lots of energy and will thrive with plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation. Fetch with a ball is a favorite, and he also enjoys keeping watch out the window like the good neighborhood supervisor he is. A securely fenced yard will be required in his future home to meet his energy needs and for safety. He’s a big, goofy, loving dog who just wants to be near his people and be told he’s a good boy (which he is). With the right mix of exercise, structure, and love, Maxx is going to be an incredibly loyal and fun companion. If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Story
Ollie is a 2–3-year-old Shepherd mix who perfectly balances adventure buddy and cuddlebug. At 40 pounds, he’s big enough to join you on long walks and outdoor fun, but perfectly content to curl up next to you on the couch afterward. He’s happiest when he’s near his people. He was quiet and subdued his first couple of days in foster care, cuddling almost immediately, and grew more playful and confident as he settled in. He’s fully house trained and hasn’t had any accidents in his foster home. Ollie knows “kennel” and will head right into his crate, though he's done well when left out and content to nap for hours.Ollie is great with other dogs and gets very excited when he sees them out and about. He does not have experience with cats or with children, so a proper introduction is recommended. This boy has high energy and will need more than just a quick stroll around the block. Multiple daily walks are recommended, and a fenced yard will be required in his future home to meet his energy needs. His favorite activity is running free and sniffing everything in sight, but also enjoys puzzle toys to keep his smart mind busy. He loves soft or crinkly toys (fair warning: they may not survive long), and he’ll happily chase a tennis ball — he just hasn’t quite grasped the concept of bringing it back. Ollie is the kind of dog who will run with you by day and curl up close by night.
