Sylvie is a two year old 36 pound mostly black terrier pitbull that was brought into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 8/12 as a stray. Because she is small it would be easy to take her along with you on your errands. She is exceptionally sweet and gentle. She’s cautiously friendly. She’s very well mannered. She walks well on a leash. She chooses to stay close indicating she wants to make friends. When trust is built, she will open up her heart and pour out her love to you! She would most likely do best with a laid-back family with older children. I can see blankets, throws, a doggy bed, and air conditioning in her future. She would make a wonderful companion!

**RESCUE ONLY**Say hello to Marcel, an American Pitbull mix picked up by one of our officers as a stray on 7/8 and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. Marcel weighs 47 pounds, is about 3 years old and has been neutered since arriving at the shelter. Marcel walked nicely on a leash as I led him into the yard. He immediately threw himself on the ground and began to roll around, obviously enjoying the feel of the soft green grass. He has a low-key chill personality and is submissive. He is friendly and allowed me to pet him. Marcel is somewhat reserved in his manner. He appears to be resilient in that he is adjusting to shelter life when he has not received adequate care. He loves treats and is polite in receiving them. One thing I noticed about him is that he is very alert. Whenever he heard voices and noises in the hallway outside the room, he perked up and seemed interested in knowing what was going on!! You will notice the sadness in his eyes in his photos. Unfortunately it appears apparent that this boy has been badly cared for. He has missing fur on his back and is quite emaciated. Those issues can be easily resolved. However he will need surgery on one of his legs. The complete vet report is attached and indicates he needs a head to neck ostectomy. Of course, he is rescue only due to this medical issue. After spending some time with him, I feel he is so worth the save and deserves a second chance with a loving home and family. Meet Annie! She is a 3yr old spayed female American Pitbull mix that weighs 40lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on as a stray 8/26/2025. She was adopted for one day but returned due to her very active playful manner. Yes, its true she is a spitfire! She loves to chase toys, doing zoomies in the play yard, and can be a bit mouthy with excitement. Once she runs out her energy she will sit right next you on the bench to be petted and will shower you with kisses. She does love treats but does not always take them gently so she will need additional training. She would do best with a person with an active lifestyle that can dedicate time to Annie to help her be the best pup she can be. She always has a big smile on her face and her tail wags non-stop. You can tell she wants to be your one and only pup in the home. With her energy level it maybe best. Please discuss with the shelter staff if you have another dog in the home so a dog test can be arranged. This super friendly lovebug can’t wait to find her own loving home. Can you please provide her with this?
