Story
Let me introduce you to my newest doggie friend Raleigh, an American Staffordshire Terrier/American Pit Bull mix came in on 4/5 as a stray to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. He weighs 50lbs, is 1 year old and is neutered. He has the most beautiful coloring—a golden/auburn colored coat and with gorgeous golden eyes. He is docile, timid, and shy, and still a bit cautiously friendly He has come so far in such a short time, that he will continue to learn to trust, relax and warm up. He does walk well on a leash. He does like treats and takes them politely. And he even gives kisses when he warms up to a new human friend. Raleigh will undoubtedly make some person or family a devoted and loyal pet. With lots of TLC shown him and an inside life with his people in order to bond. Won’t you please give this sweet boy a second chance at a forever home in which he will be given the loving care he deserves

Story
Tanner is a 3yr old 49 lb Staffordshire pit that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/12. If he looks worried in some of these pictures, he most likely is. He wants and deserves adopters that will cherish him. He has a lot of love to give. When I sat down, he immediately came to me to put his head on my lap. Actually at one point he put his paws up on my lap. He gives kisses. He is so affectionate. He does sit for treats. He takes the treats relatively gently considering how hungry he must be. He’s very sweet, affectionate, calm, gentle, and alert. He walks OK on a leash. He did his business in the yard. He didn’t have a problem meeting other dogs. I did not see any aggression. He wants to be an inside dog. He likes to watch television. He particularly likes Animal Planet but if you’re a a Rangers fan, he’ll be a Rangers fan. He just wants to be part of a new family.

Story
If you’re looking for for love, come to the Mesquite Animal Shelter and meet Brindi. She is delightful 3 yr old brindle terrier pit lass that weighs 60 lbs. She was brought into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 5/15 as a stray. I was met at her kennel with tail wags. It was obvious she was seeking human interaction. She’s a big girl that appears to have been well cared for. She certainly has good manners. She’s extremely loving. She sits for treats and takes them gently. She’s easy-going, tailwagging happy, friendly, calm, alert, and very, very sweet! She came from across the yard when I called her. When I sat down, she came for petting and to have her ears scratched. She kept her kennel clean and did her business in the yard. She may be housetrained. She was not interested in meeting other dogs. She has a strong pull on the leash. Since she’s so affectionate, she would like to cuddle with you on the couch or in her bed at your feet. Since she’s a big girl, a secured yard to play in, but live indoors, a home, not an apartment would be her dream.

Story
Meet Bowser, an American Pit Bull Terrier/American Staffy Terrier mix picked up as a stray on 2/1 by one of our officers and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. This likeable youngster weighs 56 pounds and is 1 yr old. He walks nicely on a leash, though was understandably intimidated by the dogs barking at him when he walked past some of the other kennels. Bowser thoroughly enjoyed being outside and stretching his legs. He showed off his athleticism by climbing up and down on the play equipment. He does not seem to know any commands. He is a friendly fellow and was just fine with me petting him. He is a handsome guy that appears to have been well cared for judging from his shiny coat, bright eyes and healthy weight. And yet... here he is in a city shelter with no one coming to reclaim. It`s a head-scratcher! He was very alert in the yard in putting his paws on the wall shelf and looking out into the parking lot and field beyond very possibly looking for and hoping to see his people coming for him.

Story
This precious pooch is Jackson an American Pitbull mix that weighs 51lbs and about 6 yrs old. He came into the shelter on 3/5 as a stray. He is very malnourished so he is being fed extra meals in order to attain a healthier weight. He has obviously spent his life as an outside dog due to the calluses on his elbows, long nails, and of course his underweight condition. He has either spent some time on the streets or was badly cared for by his owners. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in the yard, stretching his legs and enjoying the beauty of the sunshiny day! He walks well on a leash. He does not seem to know any commands. He is playful and friendly and welcomed petting and affection from me. This sweet tail-wagging boy seems ready to forgive his owners and move on and is hoping this next time around to have a home in which he is cherished and given plenty of TLC and will be allowed to share an inside life with his people.

Story
If Rico could talk he would say he doesn’t understand why he’s at this noisy place. Miss Judi told him he was surrendered because of the health of his owner. That made him sad because he did not know his owner was not feeling well. You can see by looking in his eyes that he’s sad and scared. Please be the hero that will turn his life around. Rico is a 3 yr old 71 lb copper-colored American Pitbull Terrier/Perro De Presa mix with alluring, brown eyes. He has become a favorite of one of our volunteers. This volunteer takes him for long walks and says that he’s easy to lead. He does what he wants when he wants to …probably as a result of being left alone a lot. With TLC he warms up and seeks affection. He does not appear to know the sit command. That’s something you could teach him. He has a semi-strong pull on the leash. He has so much love to give his new family. He would love to snuggle up on the couch with you and watch TV. He likes Animal Planet but would be willing to watch whatever his family likes!

Story
Besides being a handsome dude with freckles on his nose, this is one fine dog! Milo is a one to two year-old 60 pound boxer mix that was surrendered to the Mesquite Animal Shelter through no fault of his own. He was found by a trucker that realized he couldn’t keep him because of his lifestyle. Milo needs someone that has time to love on him and in return Milo his loads of love to lavish on you and your family! He also needs someone to play with him. He responds to his name and comes when you call him. He sits for treats and takes them relatively gently. The surrender form stated that he was both an inside/outside dog and that he was good with dogs and children but not with cats. He’s happy, friendly, energetic, playful, and alert. The surrender form also said he was good with other dogs, and I also noticed that he didn’t have a problem going through the bay. He walks well on a leash. Milo is patiently waiting for you.
