Meet Hound! He is a 5yr old male Pitbull mix that weighs 61lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/28. He was found abandoned in a home with a female dog and her 3 puppies, which most likely Hounds is the dad. He is a very handsome boy, with bright golden brown eyes. He walks well on a leash, takes treats gently, knows the sit command and wags his little tail while being petted. He enjoys investigating the shelter yard and stretching his legs while enjoying the sunshine! He likes to chase balls but doesn't always bring them back. As we walked through the shelter yard with other dogs barking he didn't show much interest in them. We do always ask if there will be another dog in the home, please ask the shelter for a dog test. Sweet Hound hopes to find his own loving family with a secured backyard, but most importantly lives indoors to enjoy the company of his human companions. Diana has very interesting grayish brown coloring and what looks like half of a tail. She is unique in that way! She is a four-year-old 63 pound terrier pit that originally came from Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/21 as a stray. She was adopted two months later. Her owners failed to keep her secure and she showed up at the shelter two times in 2022. Both times her owners reclaimed her. On 6/18 this year she came in as a stray. This time her owners are ignoring calls from the shelter so she is now available for adoption. When she was out in the yard, she spent a lot of time looking out the gate. She looked very sad. I suspect she was looking for her owners! She also had drool indicating she had a nervous stomach. Even though she's super sweet she obviously has not acclimated to the shelter yet. Who can blame her? She sits for treats and takes them gently. She's highly motivated by treats and kept sitting in anticipation of a treat reward. She also chased a ball but did not retrieve it. She stayed close, looking up at me with adoring eyes. At the end of the session, she relaxed a little and became more animated. Diana is gentle, friendly, and well-behaved. She has a semi-strong pull on the leash. She did her business as soon as she got into the yard and had kept her kennel clean. She wagged her tail meeting smaller dogs, but when she met some bigger ones the fur went up on her back. We always suggest if you have another dog to ask the shelter to do a dog test. She's already spayed! She needs owners this time that will care enough about her to make sure that she's secure in her surroundings. She would love nothing better than to snuggle up with you on the couch in the evenings during family time.

Meet Echo! He is a 2yr old neutered male American Pitbull mix that weighs 49lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 7/27 as a stray. Echo was a stray at the shelter in 2022 originally, and he was so excited when he was adopted on 5/23 of this year. Yet two months later he is back at the shelter and his owners did not reclaim him. Echo is an active energetic pup that loves to run through the shelter yard chasing balls. Yet he found his favorite place while out in the yard....the toy box! He will jump right in, sort through all the toys to find just the right one. He will entertain himself with the toys and is always a joy to watch. Echo is a very active boy that would love to have an active lifestyle with his own loving family. He does jump when he is excited so continued training would be best. Chasing balls/toys are great, but taking him for a jog, long walks or a hike, he would so enjoy that. He is a very playful and fun loving boy, so having a secured backyard would be great! He loves everyone he meets. He knows the sit command, walks well on a leash, yet can pull with excitement at times, and takes treats gently. He walks past all the other dogs barking at him in the shelter, so if there will be another dog in the home, please ask the shelter for a dog test. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 9/26 as an owner surrender due to the landlord would not allow him to stay. Chucho is such a sweet and gentle boy that enjoys being petted and loved on. He will put his paws on your lap to be close for petting and will give you kisses. His personality could be explained as calm, easy going and well behaved. He also has a super power, he only has one eye! He was born this way and it doesn't cause him any pain. His eye will need to bemonitored for any irritation. He has such a great time running through the shelter yard especially when there are balls involved. He has such a great time! He would love to have a secured backyard to run and play in, but then live inside where he can still play, but be close to his human companions, cuddling on the couch or taking long snoozes on his own dog bed. **VOLUNTEER FAVORITE**Meet Diamond! She is a 4 yr old female American Pitbull/Staffordshire mix that weighs 57lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/7 with her sister Nyla as a stray. Their prior owners were contacted, but they did not wish to reclaim them. Diamond has been overbred and is underweight. She has not had the best life as she has scrapes and missing strips of hair. Despite the sadness in her life, in pure pitbull form, she is forgiving, wags her tails and still has a sparkle in her eye. She walks well on a leash, takes treats gently, loves to be petted and loved on. And will give kisses too! Tho she came in with another dog, she has not shown any interest in the other dogs that are barking at her, we do always ask if there will be another dog in the family to please ask the shelter for a dog test. We will take care of her and show her the love she so deserves until she can find her final loving family. One that will give her a secured backyard to run and play in, but will live inside where she can cuddle close on the couch with her human companions watching your favorite TV show. Meet Kilo! He is a 8 month old brindle Pitbull mix that weighs 52lbs. He came into the shelter on 4/9 as an owner surrender due to financial hardship. This boy is so very handsome and still has quite a bit of puppy energy. He does walk strongly on a leash, and can become excited and run towards you not understanding his own strength. He will need some additional training to help him be the best pup he can be, but he is ready to do just that! Until he realizes this, it would be best for him not to be around young children or the elderly. He has such a sweet disposition. He will run through the shelter yard doing short zoomies, and will chase a ball but doesn't bring it back. He takes treats gently and knows the sit command. Hi everyone! My name is Jet because I’m super fast and jet black as you can see. I love all people and dogs, even the ones who bark too much and are cranky. Everyone is my friend on walks at the dog park and daycare which is heaven!!! Since my foster Dad found me off the highway when I was skinny & limping he has done everything he can to help me even though he is a cat dad and never had a dog. He even took me to one on one training so we both could learn what to do. We've both come so far and we're both so well behaved now haha. I was neutered in early January and it's helped me calm down lots. From day one belly rubs and hugs have been my thing. I can't get enough and go bonkers when my foster gets home or picks me up at daycare. I'm super sweet and will give kisses and actually smile and hug you or hold hands. I've learned to sleep next to him as well and it's really nice to snuggle. I'm pretty much house trained and my foster didn't even know what he was doing, but he put out pee pads for me and I learned to go on those and then to hold it and go to the patio door or wake him up so I can go pee outside. If I don't wake him I used the pee pads and he is so proud of me. He has let me run around the whole backyard and depending on the weather has the AC or heat on in the shed so I can go in there when I want and he gave me a bed and food and water and many things to chew. I’ll chew on things if they’re left out but in the six months I've lived here now it's really only the toys he gives me and old shoes he lets me chew up. I really want a brother or sister to play with and humans that are dog people as I'm super super sociable. Sometimes my hip still hurts me so I need someone who will give me rest days as well as daycare! The only thing I need to complete my perfect life is a forever home. Meet Candy! She is a 2 yr old spayed female Boxer/Pitbull mix that weighs 42lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/17 as a stray. She is a cute little girl but does not understand why she is at the shelter. She is a bit shy at first but does warm up. Candy loves to sit close, cuddle and get tummy rubs. It appears she may have lived inside and been housetrained. And she has told me having a loving happy home where she lives inside, having her own fluffy dog bed, and receiving lots of petting, is exactly what she dreams of. She walks well on a leash and takes treats gently. All of the other dogs barking does make her a bit uneasy, yet she showed no aggression to them.
