Theo is a two year-old neutered male, 64lb Shepherd mix that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 7/28 as a stray. Like I was saying he has made a complete turnaround because once he did get in the yard, he was galloping, prancing and almost bouncing happily back-and-forth. He was so happy he didn’t even want to come to me for petting. He just wanted to frolic. It was hot out, so I took him back into the meet and greet room. That’s when we became better acquainted. He came to me for petting. He’s real sweet and affectionate. He has love to give and wants to be loved in return. He did his business in the yard, and he may be housebroken. He now walks relatively well on a leash. Besides that he said he would like to snuggle inside on the couch with his new family.

This bright-eyed, bushy-tailed youngster is Thomas, a mixed breed brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/2 as a stray. He is 7mos old and neutered. Thomas weighs 35lbs. This mild mannered, sweet tempered boy is a charming little guy. He will put his paws on your shoulders to look in your eyes and let you know that he wants to be your friend. He is a frisky and perky boy, though not overly energetic. He is affectionate, friendly and will seek out attention from a human friend. He likes treats and will sometimes sit for them…and sometimes not. This cutesy youngster would undoubtedly make a devoted and loving companion. He would thrive living in the house with his people so that he can socialize and bond. In my mind’s eye, I can see him nestled on the couch with his new owner, enjoying the closeness and camaraderie.

Cheyanne is a 4yr old, 54lb German Shepherd that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/20 as a stray. She’s very alert and pranced around the yard. She sits for treats and offers her paw. She found a frisbee and brought it to me. She would fetch it and bring it back to me. She didn’t tire of the game, but I did! She has a strong ball drive. She is friendly, fun loving, joyful, well mannered, and affectionate. She showed no interest in the other dogs yet ask the shelter for a dog test if there is another dog in the home. There’s no doubt she’s very smart! She’s possibly housebroken and she walks OK on a leash. She’ll need a yard for you to play with her in and then come into the house and chill out on the couch next to you.

Kendra is a one-year-old 56 pound German Shepherd that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter 11/22 as a stray. She is an exceptionally attractive tan and black German Shepherd. She’s had some training and does want to please, but at the same time she is strong willed and wants to do things her way. She would benefit from some additional training to help her be the best pup she can be. She has so much potential and there’s no doubt she’s very smart. She’s spirited and very playful. She finds toys and entertains herself with them. She sits for treats and takes them gently. She gives kisses. She did her business as soon as she got out into the yard and maybe housetrained. She investigated the yard with her nose. She’s a strong leash walker. She did bark at other dogs, so if you have another dog, please ask the shelter for a dog test. She is friendly and wiggly happy. She would not do well an apartment. She would do best with an active family and a secured yard to play in. After burning off energy in the yard, she would want to come in to have her ears scratched. She loves that!!!

Meet Emma! She’s a 3-year-old spayed female German Shepherd mix, possibly with some Manchester Terrier in her, weighing 42 lbs. She arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 10/9. While she can be a bit shy when meeting new people, once she warms up her playful side shines. She loves romping around the play yard, and if you join her in a game of chase, her big, happy smile says it all. Emma takes treats gently, walks nicely on a leash, and doesn’t react to barking dogs she passes. If you have another pup, the shelter recommends a dog test. She’s a total lovebug who will cuddle close and even climb into your lap. It’s easy to imagine her as a wonderful family companion—help her build trust, and she’ll be your BFF, greeting you every day with a smile and a kiss. Emma has stolen our hearts, and she’s sure to steal yours too.

Meet Mika! He is a 1 yr old male Belgian Shepherd/Australian Kelpie mix mix that weighs 57lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/27 as a stray. He has such a loving, gentle, moderate personality. He enjoys being petted and loved on. Takes treats gently and walks well on a leash. Mika does walk with a bit of a wobble, due to an injury to his hip bone. He is doing much better and is anxious to find his own loving forever family. As the other dogs were barking at him, he showed no interest, but we always ask if there will be another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. He would enjoy having a secured yard he can enjoy, then definitely come back inside where he can have his own comfy dog bed and the company of his human family. You just can`t resist Mika, he would make such a loving loyal companion.

When she got out into the yard, she got distracted with smelling and was more relaxed. She frequently looked out over the wall. She may have been looking for her owners. She is well mannered. There were several times when it looked like she was going to jump on me, but didn’t when I told her no. She didn`t show any interest in the other dogs barking at her, yet if there is another dog in the home, please ask the shelter for a dog test. She sits for treats, takes them gently, and walks ok on a leash. She has the right amount of energy to be playful,but not overbearing. She’s really sweet and wants to please. Due to her size she would need a yard, but she deserves to spend quality time in her new home with her family.

Zara is a 2 year old Belgian Malinois Mix. We adopted her at 6 months from a shelter, the same day she came back from being fostered. She has lots of energy and loves attention. She has been around other dogs (that she loves to play with), she is great with cats because she use to live with one (she needs to be reminded to be gentle with cats), she absolutely loves kids (she will jump on them as well). She knows a couple of commands. She is not aggressive at all and she senses when you are upset/sad. Her favorite things to do are going on walks, going for a ride, chasing squirrels, and playing with toys that give her a challenge. She is afraid of thunderstorms. We just want her to have an amazing home with a family, or person, that has time for her!
