Story
Leon is a 4 to 5 year old 64 pound black and brown German Shepherd that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 5/2 as a stray. I feel he has been well cared for at one time. He has a gray muzzle which makes him look dignified. He was very patient while I brushed him. He’s highly motivated by treats and takes them gently. He walks right beside you on a leash. This doesn’t come naturally. He’s been taught to do this. He occasionally jumps on you wanting a little snuggle. He nudges you for extra pets. Needless to say he’s very affectionate! He’s friendly, alert, attentive, and well mannered. He did his business in the yard and it appeared he may have saved it. Y’all this is a diamond in the rough! He’d love to experience the smells of being outside, but then come back inside to share cuddles and kisses!

Story
Danika looks up at you with a quizzical look as though she’s still trying to figure out what this Mesquite Animal Shelter thing is all about! I’m sure she’s wondering where her owners are. If she could talk, she would tell you she doesn’t deserve to be here because she’s been a very loving, well-mannered dog. She spent the first five minutes casually meandering around the yard checking things out. She wasn’t in a hurry. After everything apparently met with her approval, she came back to hang out with me. We became BFFs. She sits for treats and takes them gently. She likes having her ears scratched. She’s calm, gentle, sweet, cautiously friendly, and affectionate. She walks very well on a leash. She’s a lap dog wannabe. So if you have a lap and some extra blankets she’d like to keep you company. She’d even reward you with kisses!

Harrison looks sweet! That’s because he is! He is a neutered 5 year-old 69 pound Anatolian Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix that arrived in the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/23 as a stray. Besides having very attractive markings, Harrison has many admirable characteristics. He is friendly, well mannered, affectionate, happy, easy-going, and playful. He does not pull on a leash. He comes bounding when he’s called. He doesn’t appear to know the sit command but backs up in an attempt to do what you’re asking of him. That means he wants to please. He did his business in the yard. He’s a good boy that wants to go home with you! He would love to get out to exercise and then come in to share the comforts of your home. He would love to cuddle with you.

Story
Meet Josette! She’s a 5-year-old spayed female German Shepherd/Belgian Shepherd mix weighing 47 lbs. She arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/27 as a stray and is beautiful inside and out. From the moment we met, she greeted me with a smile and lots of tail wags. She loves hugs and kisses, and happily gives them back. Josette has a happy-go-lucky personality, enjoys rolling in the grass, and adores tummy rubs. She seems well cared for, walks nicely on a leash, takes treats gently, knows the sit command, and may be housetrained. Gentle and loving, she’d make the perfect addition to a family. When walking past barking dogs, she showed no interest, though we recommend a dog test if you have another pup at home. She dreams of a secure yard to play in before coming inside for family time. Her smiling face is sure to brighten the days of anyone lucky enough to bring this sweet girl into their home and heart.

Meet Emma! She’s a 3-year-old spayed female German Shepherd mix, possibly with some Manchester Terrier in her, weighing 42 lbs. She arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 10/9. While she can be a bit shy when meeting new people, once she warms up her playful side shines. She loves romping around the play yard, and if you join her in a game of chase, her big, happy smile says it all. Emma takes treats gently, walks nicely on a leash, and doesn’t react to barking dogs she passes. If you have another pup, the shelter recommends a dog test. She’s a total lovebug who will cuddle close and even climb into your lap. It’s easy to imagine her as a wonderful family companion—help her build trust, and she’ll be your BFF, greeting you every day with a smile and a kiss. Emma has stolen our hearts, and she’s sure to steal yours too.

Story
Buster’s joy is contagious. If you’re looking for a happy, playful, fun-loving dog then come meet Buster. Buster is a 1 year old 40 pound neutered brindle Shepherd mix (Dutch/Belgium) part Carolina Dog. He came to Mesquite Animal Shelter on 5/9 as a stray. He has a tall, lean body with a healthy coat and exceptionally big ears. He’s very sociable. He prefers to hang out with his human friends. He’s very loving and well mannered. He sits for treats and takes them gently. He does jump up but not on you. He walks OK on a leash. He didn`t show any interest in other dogs, yet if you have another dog in the home please ask the shelter for a dog test. He did his business when he got into the yard. He’s a great all-around dog that would love to go for walks with you and then come back in to cuddle up watching TV.

Story
Amelia is a 2 year-old mostly black Dutch Shepherd that weighs 51 pounds and came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 5/18. She is definitely striking with her glossy coat, sleek figure and quirky ears. Being at the shelter with all the noise makes this sweet girl nervous, but easy to see she wants to be friends. She even came up to me for some ear scratches. She sits on command but was not interested in a treat. She is very sweet, alert, gentle, well mannered, energetic and walks well on a leash. She didn`t show interest in the other dogs barking at her, yet we do always ask if there is another dog in the home please ask the shelter for a dog test. She is a precious girl that dreams of finding her own loving home soon!
