Story
Mags is a young, bright, emotionally big Standard Poodle who has had a busier start to life than most. She grew up in homes that cared about her, but none were quite equipped to manage her energy, her enthusiasm, or her tendency to become overstimulated. After finding herself in a shelter—confused, over-aroused, and unsure how to channel all her excitement—Mags came into SPIN’s care so she could finally get the structure and support she has always needed. She is an affectionate, social girl with a lot of love to give, but she experiences the world at full volume. New places, new people, and outdoor environments can cause her arousal to spike quickly, which leads to jumping, grabbing, and mouthy behaviour. None of this comes from a place of aggression—Mags simply hasn’t been shown how to regulate her emotions. Now that she’s in foster care and beginning to decompress, we’re finally getting to know the real Mags.

Story
Youngtu | 7 years old | Poodle Name: Youngtu Age: 7 years Sex: Spayed female Breed: Poodle Coat: Beige Weight: 3.2 kg Height: 30 cm (shoulder height)   Rescue Story   Youngtu was adopted as a puppy, but due to her adopter’s life circumstances—including the birth of a child and an overseas work assignment—she was unfortunately surrendered and returned to rescue. She has now been living in a foster home for about one month, where she has been adjusting well and enjoying the stability of home life again.   ‍ Human Socialization Youngtu is very affectionate and people-oriented. She approaches both familiar and unfamiliar people happily, rubs against them, and enjoys being touched. She tends to seek a lot of human attention and companionship.   She has not had direct experience with children under 13. Youngtu is comfortable being picked up with an arm under her belly and will often show her belly even to people she has just met—an indication of her friendly and trusting nature.   Dog Socialization Youngtu will approach unfamiliar dogs to greet them but generally does not engage in play. She tends to feel intimidated by dogs larger than herself.   If another dog provokes her, she may react defensively, so careful introductions are important, especially with new or unfamiliar dogs. When a new dog enters a space she was already occupying, she may attempt to assert herself by nipping toward the other dog’s rear or rushing toward them in a confrontational way. Proper management and guidance are recommended in multi-dog settings.   Cats On walks, Youngtu may look at cats with curiosity, but she follows her handler well and redirects easily when guided.   Energy Level Youngtu has a moderate energy level. She enjoys outdoor activities and walks, but settles calmly and rests quietly afterward.   ‍ Walks Youngtu is generally does not pull. She follows her handler well. When encountering other dogs on walks, she may sometimes pass calmly, but at other times may initiate or respond to tension—especially if the other dog growls. While injuries have not occurred, brief scuffles can happen, so continued leash manners training and attentive handling are recommended.   Additional Notes • No food guarding toward people • May growl if another dog approaches while she is eating (separate feeding works well) • Calm and well-mannered in a crate • Currently potty trained for both indoor and outdoor elimination   Youngtu is a loving, human-focused companion who would thrive in a home that can provide guidance, structure, and thoughtful dog introductions. With the right environment, she will be a deeply devoted and affectionate family member. Apply to adopt or foster https://adoptmekr.org  Please also visit our Facebook or Instagram. Tis’ the Season to Adopt a Senior!!!!! Meet Lucas – Our Sweet Senior Looking for a Calm, Kid-Free Forever Home Lucas is a 12 lb poodle–schnauzer mix who was adopted from Coveted Canines 9 years ago and spent almost a decade as a deeply loved family member. As his family grew, it became clear that Lucas was not comfortable around little ones. The noise, crawling, and unpredictability of young children made him anxious, and he would react with barking and growling when he felt overwhelmed or unsure. His family did everything they could to keep him separated and feeling safe, but ultimately realized that Lucas would be happiest in a home without children, where he can enjoy his senior years in peace. Per their adoption contract, Lucas was returned to the same rescue he originally came from, and he is now thriving in his foster home. He lives with several dogs and gets along beautifully with them, often choosing to quietly cuddle up next to the other seniors. For his age, Lucas is in great health and enjoys a calm, predictable routine. He may be experiencing some hearing loss, which can contribute to his sensitivity in busy environments, but in a peaceful home he is relaxed, sweet, and content. Lucas is fully housetrained, has no food restrictions, and is an excellent candidate for condo living. All he wants is a quiet, loving home where he can be the centre of your world. Lucas has been vetted with core vaccines (dh2pp, rabies), neutered, microchipped, dewormed, on tick/heartworm and flea prevention, had a dental last year and his teeth are still ok. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate senior who will be your loyal companion, Lucas just might be your perfect match. If you can give this good senior boy the love and space he needs, please fill out a Canine Adoption Application on our website at: covetedcanines.org/application
