If you are looking for a high octane, energizer bunny who takes naps nestled up close to their person, then I'm your guy. Nelly's the name, being cute is the game. It's not vain to say I am the handsomest 2 year old, 7 lb, Shih Tzu you'll ever see -- Those are just the facts. While I am new to such things as "toys," I will say that I have mastered those things you call bully sticks, and I do love playing and carousing with my fellow foster pups. I love to run wild outside with my friends so a fenced yard is a MUST -- catch me if you can! Sure, I play hard, but what I want more than anything is a good lap snuggle, so if you need a lap dog, I'm your man. I'm a good boy and will make my nest in a crate at bedtime, but I would be more than happy to cozy up with my human if that's an option at bedtime. I'm a quick learner and doing quite well with potty training (I sleep through the night without incident, no problem). I'm still working on harnessing all my energy when it comes to leash walking, but I am an earnest student and as long as I have a stylish vest/harness to prance about in, I'll be good to go in no time. I'm just one rambunctious cuddler looking for my forever family. Due to my tiny stature I will not be placed in a home with young children. I’m up to date on all my shots, have had a dental, had a negative heartworm test and am on monthly preventative. I’m also neutered, dewormed and microchipped. Ready and waiting, folks. I'm Kimmie! [Squirrel!!] Oh sorry. I got distracted for a moment. Yes, hello there. I'm a sweet and energetic 2 year old Shih Tzu who loves to be your bodyguard and watch your every movement [Squirrel!!]. As I was saying, I am an excellent kisser and am learning how to walk properly on a leash. AND I have a purple belt in going potty outside (I think that means I am doing pretty well). I would like a companion to help keep me focused...I do love to play. Sure, I can be shy at first with new folks, but I am a love bug at heart. A household without smaller children is best for me, and I WILL need a fenced-in yard given my [Squirrel!!]. You get the idea. Can't wait to meet you! Templeton. Kinda makes you think of an English movie with some guy in a smoking jacket with leather patches on the elbows, standing in a library in front of a fire, doesn't it? But don't worry, I am not at all like that! When I was at the animal control, I guess they ran out of "normal dog names, and they gave me this one to try to make me feel better or special or something. I was found as a stray in a neighboring town and my hair was so long and so matted together, they would have to carry me around. I could hardly move and when I did, it hurt and pulled. After foster mom got me, it took her and the groomer 4 hours to get all the matts and tangles off me so that I could actually walk again. Boy, did that feel better! Over the next few days, I went to the vet and had some x-rays done and was found to have some degenerative disc disease in my upper back and the medications they gave me really helped a Lot! I feel like a new puppy!! I am an 8-year-old shih tzu mix and get along with everyone at my foster mom's house. Big dogs, little dogs, puppies, kitties or cats...they are all ok with me. I walk like a dream on a leash and am potty trained. I will bark to go outside here. And I sleep in my own little doggie bed at night. I will be happy in a house that has friendly pets and nice people but I am not sure how I am with small children so that is probably not the best for me. Older, dog-friendly children would be ok. But I have a couple of must haves. I feel good on my medicines so I would like to go to a house that will keep me on them. Cosequin, fish oil and meloxicam or whatever your vet will order for me to keep me pain free. AND I need to have regular grooming. I don't want to be a matted mess ever again!! If you can give me those two things, please apply to adopt me! Applications can be found here on our website. Betsy was released to rescue because the breeder wanted to retire her before she became too old to enjoy the rest of her life in a loving home. When she came to her foster home, she was very timid and scared. She has come a long way and prefers her foster mom and still adjusting to accept her foster dad. Betsy will jump on her foster mom's lap for belly rubs and pats. She will need a calm, low activity home with patience. Going into a new home will be a change for Betsy but with the right home, she should do well. Another dog of similar size with some to no activity would be perfect for her. She doesn't play with her foster siblings but they help to keep her company and they taught her how to be loved by a human. Betsy has not had any accidents in her foster home for weeks but an new home needs to understand she could have accidents until she gets a new routine down. She is still not accepting of the harness and leash yet. We know she will get there but it is just not in the cards for her yet. Therefore for her safety, a secure physical fenced yard is a must. If you are looking for a quiet friend that will listen to you talk, with no judgement & no disagreement, Betsy is exactly what you are looking for! Betsy is an absolute doll, and she will make a fabulous roommate. We hope to find her a human friend that is interested in spending the day with Betsy watching & observing the world. Betsy isn’t a snuggling dog (yet) or an ‘adventure’ dog. She is a dog that is finally getting her chance to lounge around & be a dog!
