Story
FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

Meet Cabo. He is a 3 year old standard poodle. He was originally adopted out of Tacoma Humane - turned in as an owner surrender. A year later, that adopter had a change of life and couldn't keep him and provide the care he needed. She reached out to Save-A-Mutt to find him a home.
As a poodle, his adopter MUST be prepared to include grooming in their budget. We just had him groomed and he did great.
Cabo is a sweet but aloof boy, he's friendly and once he bonds to his person, he's got the sweetest gentle tail wag and leans in. He loves his foster mom. When it comes to bigger dogs, he can start off a bit guardy. He uses his 'words' with dogs that are too energetic, but as you can see by the video, the resident Aussie is VERY much over the top, and they have learned to have a good time playing. Cabo is only about 60#.
We think his ideal home has a large fenced yard, time to take him for walks. He's not super active, but enjoys rides in the car and adventures. He pretty much ignores the 3 year old child in the home, but we think older children would be a better fit. He can get annoyed by her loud energy. He's a little intense with foster's cat, so we think a feline free home is best. Cabo is a good boy, he has had a lot of change and we are making sure e goes to his forever home this time!
This dog is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. Cabo is housebroken.
The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training.
Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.
Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood.
Adoption fee is $325. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.
Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.
Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.
