Three Little Hounds, One Big Second Chance Meet Boo, one of three beautiful purebred Treeing Walker Coonhound puppies that came into rescue after being surrendered by their owner. When they arrived, it was immediately clear that these babies had been dealt a difficult hand very early in life. All three were suffering from rickets affecting their front legs and feet, caused by inadequate nutrition during the critical early stages of their growth. Their little legs and feet had become badly weakened and deformed, making something as simple as walking incredibly difficult. But these babies are fighters—and their story is changing every single day. ❤️ With strict, proper nutrition, carefully selected nutritional supplements, and specially fitted leg braces, their bodies are finally receiving what they needed all along. Their bones are strengthening, their legs are slowly improving, and they are learning what it feels like to move, play, and simply enjoy being puppies. And despite everything they have been through, their spirits have never been broken and they are expected to make a full recovery and grow into strong, healthy dogs.These three are incredibly loving, happy, playful puppies who absolutely adore one another. They love playing together and with the other puppies in their foster home, and they become especially excited when children come around to play. Give them attention, affection, and someone willing to play, and you will quickly see their sweet little hound personalities shine. They are already house trained (with puppy pads) and crate trained, and they are eager to continue learning and experiencing all the wonderful things that come with being part of a family. Their journey isn’t completely finished yet. They need forever homes that understand they are still healing and will remain committed to providing the proper nutrition, care, and follow-up they need while their bones continue to strengthen. One day, those little legs that once made walking so difficult should carry them on adventures, through backyards, and straight into the arms of the families who chose them. They didn’t get the healthy beginning every puppy deserves. Meet Koda, a 3-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound who didn’t have the easiest start, and you can see some of his story in the character of his nose and permanent head tilt. But don’t let that fool you—it doesn’t slow him down or affect his happiness one bit! Koda is resilient, joyful, and more than ready for the happy ending he deserves. ❤️ Koda is truly just a really good boy. He is sweet, affectionate, and loves attention. He enjoys the company of other dogs, but he’s also perfectly content to relax and be wonderfully chill. Whether he’s hanging out with his canine friends or soaking up one-on-one love, Koda is happiest when he’s with his people. And, of course, Koda is a hound—which means he comes with a big, beautiful voice! His bark makes an appearance when he gets excited, and it’s just part of his charming hound personality. He also takes to training easily and is eager to learn, making him a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys helping a dog continue to grow and thrive. After all Koda has overcome, he deserves a family who will see what a special boy he is and give him the love, patience, and forever home he’s been waiting for. Our handsome Ryder is bursting with charm and charisma! He is a good-natured comedian who has traversed the rescue process like a spirited game of hopscotch in which every stop is a grand opportunity to explore the Universe.  We don’t know Ryder’s history, but if anything bad happened to him, he shook it off in no time. He shows no behavioral evidence of trauma, although he came to us with signs of neglect and malnutrition. We know that he was found as a country stray Animal Control Officers in rural North Carolina. No owner claimed him. Ryder’s bum luck finally improved when our shelter contact transferred him to our care. Due to his stellar temperament and personality, Ryder has become one of the superstars in our big dog playgroup. He loves all the dogs that he has met here! Now, it is time for Ryder to live a life of his own, one where the human-dog ratio is more reasonable. He is so full of life and personality, and at just two years old, he still has a bit of the puppy Mojo going on. Ryder is like a kid in a candy shop, soaking up new experiences with sheer glee. He is a super dog that would do well in any type of environment. Ryder appears to be a Treeing walker Coonhound. He lives up to their lovable reputation. He is a medium sized dog, at a lean weight of 40 pounds. His short, flat, tri-colored coat is easy to groom with minimal shedding. Ryder has a big, goofy personality, and he loves to play. Ryder is a very happy-go-lucky guy, and would be a great addition to an active family with older, dog savvy kids. He is friendly and will gives everyone in the family equal attention. Ryder is not one to play favorites, and he is very stranger friendly.  He could also join an active single or couple, who can provide at least one to two brisk leash walks daily, as well as focussed play time so that Ryder can get the exercise that he needs to get his yayas out.  Ryder has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He has been neutered, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings.
