Story
Sweet 7 month old Cosmo is 45lbs of love, fun and companionship who is looking for his forever home and sure to make you laugh. He is a hound through and through, he can sniff and explore with the best of them! If you are in the market for a hiking buddy, this is your boy! Cosmo would love an active family who will take him exploring, and it would be a bonus for him if there was another family dog, Cosmo really loves having his foster brothers and sisters around! While he loves everyone he meets, his foster mom describes him as a "dog's dog", he is currently living with 5 dogs of all sizes and a cat. When he is not playing with his doggy buddies or on the trail of some great scent in the back yard, he is cuddled up with his people or in his favorite lounge chair with a bone. Cosmo does really like children but given his age and hound energy, we feel he is better suited to families with older children. Cosmo is crate and housetrained, neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vetting. If you would like to make Cosmo a member of your family, please email bigyellowgoose018@gmail.com

Story
Our handsome Ryder is bursting with charm and charisma! He is a good-natured comedian who has traversed the rescue process like a spirited game of hopscotch in which every stop is a grand opportunity to explore the Universe.  We don’t know Ryder’s history, but if anything bad happened to him, he shook it off in no time. He shows no behavioral evidence of trauma, although he came to us with signs of neglect and malnutrition. We know that he was found as a country stray Animal Control Officers in rural North Carolina. No owner claimed him. Ryder’s bum luck finally improved when our shelter contact transferred him to our care. Due to his stellar temperament and personality, Ryder has become one of the superstars in our big dog playgroup. He loves all the dogs that he has met here! Now, it is time for Ryder to live a life of his own, one where the human-dog ratio is more reasonable. He is so full of life and personality, and at just two years old, he still has a bit of the puppy Mojo going on. Ryder is like a kid in a candy shop, soaking up new experiences with sheer glee. He is a super dog that would do well in any type of environment. Ryder appears to be a Treeing walker Coonhound. He lives up to their lovable reputation. He is a medium sized dog, at a lean weight of 40 pounds. His short, flat, tri-colored coat is easy to groom with minimal shedding. Ryder has a big, goofy personality, and he loves to play. Ryder is a very happy-go-lucky guy, and would be a great addition to an active family with older, dog savvy kids. He is friendly and will gives everyone in the family equal attention. Ryder is not one to play favorites, and he is very stranger friendly.  He could also join an active single or couple, who can provide at least one to two brisk leash walks daily, as well as focussed play time so that Ryder can get the exercise that he needs to get his yayas out.  Ryder has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He has been neutered, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. If you are interested in Ryder, please write to Angelsfrgod@aol.com or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.

Story
Our Watson is a mild mannered, good ol’ boy who has shown us a lot of heart. He was surrendered by his pregnant owner, who became strapped for time. Eight years old, Watson found himself in a Connecticut Animal Control Shelter facing euthansia. Our Shelter contact reported that Watson had suffered some abuse from some of the unsavory men in his owner’s life, but his personality is sweet and his spirit has rebounded.  Watson has quickly adjusted to the chaotic rescue process and has become one of our most beloved fosters. He has grown into a proper Hound busybody with his nose in everybody's affairs.  Watson is a fairly calm boy, who can be shy at first stranger meeting, but warms up into a total lovebug. He would thrive in an active adult home, with folks who can commit to a training and excerise regimen.  Watson is in excellent health and is at a lean weight of 55 pounds. He appears to be a Treeing Walker Coonhound, with classic tri-coloring. He has the Scent Hound tendency to "sniff the roses," and likes to slow down occasionally on his daily walks. Watson has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He has been neutered, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. If you are interested in Watson, please write to Angelsfrgod@aol.com or call or text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.

Story
**Please read Barney's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application. Thank you!** Meet Barney, a 5-year-old Walker Coonhound / Beagle mix, weighing 55 pounds (as of 2/7/26). A sweet lady saved this angel from wandering the streets of North Carolina and brought him to us. Barney is sight impaired (though not blind) so surviving that long on his own is a true to testament to this boy's resilience! He's a miracle in every sense of the word and deserves, the best, more caring home to feel safe! Barney is a super sweet and very affectionate boy. In fact, when he was rescued by the random lady that found him, he slept with his head on her shoulder all night to say "thank you." This boy LOVES to be close to his people. We're not just talking sleeping next to you, either. He will fully lay on you! And guess what? You'll let him. Why get out of bed when you have this lover boy giving you a big hug every morning? Barney is great with every dog he meets, though sometimes he might feel vulnerable because of his eyesight. He'll occasionally get scared when bumping into things, but he hopes that after he gets adjusted to your home, he'll learn the lay of the land. Barney is also good with cats as the woman who rescued him had cats. While he only spent one night with the cats, Barney got the hang of being around them. Barney has only met kids on outings, but hopes to charm them too! Because of his eyesight, Barney loves interactive toys that make noise, so he asks that you pretty please be creative when it comes to helping him adjust in your home! He's good on a leash and is fine being crated (in fact, he eats in his crate). He currently hasn't had any accidents at his foster's house, but Barney asks for grace as he adjusts to the potty rules of your home. He doesn't know any commands currently, but if you're open to teaching, he's open to learning! Just remember to have patience with him. As Barney always says, Rome wasn't built in a day! When it comes to his medical history, Barney has Lyme disease due to the number of ticks that were on him when he was first found. Lyme disease has affected his kidneys, so he's currently on a vet-approved special diet that includes Doxycycline, Benazepril and other kidney supplements to help him. His foster has helped do bloodwork several times and his last kidney results showed improvements! Go Barney! He will need to stay on a special renal diet and Benazepril for the rest of his life; Barney hopes his future family will be there to help. Despite all the odds, Barney is still pushing forward! He's looking for his next guardian angel and hope it'll be you! Adopt this miracle boy today! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. To adopt or learn more about Harper Lee, you must fill out an adoption application. To find the application, copy and paste this URL into your browser: WWW.GDRNE.COM/ADOPTION-APPLICATION [Adoption Fee: $495] ** This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally. PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
