Story
Hound lovers, meet Emma — a beautiful Treeing Walker Coonhound with soulful eyes, a gentle heart, and a second chance at the life she has always deserved.Emma was found wandering the countryside in Tennessee in August 2025, heartbreakingly thin and suffering from heartworms. It’s believed she had been used for breeding and then discarded when she was no longer “needed.” Despite everything she had endured, this sweet girl’s spirit was never broken. With dedicated care, proper nutrition, and lots of love, Emma has blossomed. She has gained healthy weight, completed her heartworm treatment, and is now heartworm negative and thriving. When first rescued, Emma was shy and understandably skittish. Today, she is a different dog — confident, affectionate, and eager to be part of a family. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her.Emma plays beautifully with her canine foster siblings and is completely non-reactive. She would truly enjoy having another dog in the home as a playmate and companion. She also lives peacefully with cats and simply ignores them. Her nature makes her a wonderful fit for a variety of households, including those with respectful older children. She is currently working on her leash skills and improving every day. She rides nicely in the car and is always happy to tag along for an adventure. Emma is fully housetrained and has free roam of the house when her foster is away — she does beautifully without a crate, likely a kindness she appreciates after her past life.True to her hound heritage, Emma has the most special and adorable howl. It’s endearing, expressive, and part of the charm that makes hound lovers smile. She is active and absolutely LOVES to play, but at the end of the day, her favorite place is curled up in bed with her foster family and furry friends, soaking in the comfort and security she waited so long to have.Emma has survived hardship, raised countless litters, and asked for nothing in return. Now it’s her turn — her turn to be cherished, protected, and loved simply for who she is.If you’ve been waiting for a loyal, gentle, playful hound with a heart of gold, Emma is ready to come home.Name: Emma HoundBreed: Treeing Walker Coonhound (Confirmed by DNA test)Sex: FemaleAge: 3 years (estimated)Weight: 60.0Spayed/Neutered: YesVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:Good with Children: Over 7Good with Dogs: YesGood with Cats: YesAdoption Fee: $550.00 (includes transport fee when applicable) $100-150 additional mandatory quarantine fee for Massachusetts residents.Location of dog currently: Tennessee IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.
